    What a blast listening to Preach share his views and comments about PoE. Every point felt straight and clear, every rant was meaningful and justified. Such a breeze of fresh air in an echo-chambery community we are by nature. It is so difficult to dive into the depths that this game provides, but to see someone do it completely blind and communicating his unaltered first playthrough experience was something so refreshing. Literally every 5 minutes of the podcast i was bringing an image of Chris WIlson smiling uncontrolably behind his laptop screen; it was beautiful.

    • @flamemano
      @flamemano 3 года назад +6

      Nah. I get what you mean but the rants were in no way justified. Preach litearlly doesnt read any of the in game dialogue and then he complains that nothing is explained, i dont get this, this doesnt make sense, blah blah blah blah.

    • @stokos123
      @stokos123 3 года назад +22

      @@flamemano Well, the justification was that the pacing of the dialogue and storytelling through the NPCs was slow and unmotivating, comparing to the fast paced hack-n-slashy gameplay, and thus was skipped and ignored. In justified I don't mean right or absolute, I mean well percepted and explained.

    • @flamemano
      @flamemano 3 года назад +6

      @@stokos123 well that's not exactly what justified means.
      Regardless, this game has very rich lore; Him asking for ggg to dial some of that back just because he cant be fucked is about as stupid as everything else he said.
      Another thing is that is also not correct factually. Sure there was some information in the dialogue he was skipping, but a lot of things he didn't know just because he is being kind of a derp.
      For example, he's a berzerker. If he took even half a second to READ what the things on his class tree does he would know exactly what rage does; He didn't , so he doesn't. He ignored the pop up on the beach and as a result had no idea what support gems were for a while. ITs just pure fucking stupidity.
      Don't even get me started on all of the nonsense about MORE INFORMATION, only to complain about too much information not even like 5 minutes later>
      This is literally the exact same kind of nonsense nugi was talking about on the chris wilson baeclast that that lead to chris giving (in my opinion) the most iconic and telling line of that whole interview and this drama as a whole.
      "so if we drop something, you're upset that we dropped something; but if we drop nothing, you're upset that we dropped nothing"

    • @stokos123
      @stokos123 3 года назад +16

      @@flamemano I believe the literal meaning of justification is to give grounds for, to explain why; something doesn't have to be objective to be justified, especially when that is a subjective opinion. I'm just saying I really enjoyed his views through a prism of a veteran gamer that gets how things should feel and can express his opinions well with words.
      You almost seem like "trying" to be mad with another player's playthrough, just because he didn't align with what you "feel" like the intuitive way of his experience should be. I'm sure that if you open your scope of criticism a little you will see that this is a subjective thing to comment on. Take it for what it is. You seem really passionate about it, but come across as biased, with all love and respect :)

    • @flamemano
      @flamemano 3 года назад +5

      @@stokos123 Well you're literally wrong because justify means to show or prove to be right or reasonable ; to give a good reason for something. Its not about being objective per se, its about being logical AT LEAST.
      That aside, you clearly are unable to read. At no point did i suggest that anything "should be" anything. Not knowing about support gems for like 2 hours because you didn't pay attention to the tutorial is stupid; Not knowing what rage does because you cant be bothered to read your class is also stupid. To do these things and then cite a lack of information as your excuse is monumentally stupid. To THEN turn around 5 minutes later and say that there is too much information is just like......the pinnacle of irrationality. This has nothing to do with anyone's opinion; He ignored information that was literally in front of his face.
      Not a single thing he said in like the first hour in terms of information was even the slightest bit cohesive or logical; Thus not justified

    • @loopygordo
      @loopygordo 3 года назад +7

      @@flamemano that's the point he's fairly reflective of an experienced gamer having very common new player experience good and bad. He gives a perspective to a large audience that's similar to an dude who's played games since he was a kid that's getting into arpgs for the first time.
      PoE is the biggest arpg in the world by miles im now half way through the episode and his insight being completely segregated from the community is some of the most valuable feedback GGG can get. If there was an easier way to get more unadulterated feedback from players who haven't had their opinion molded by a larger community. This kind of feedback is extremely valuable for any dev that wants to keep improving their new player experience to keep their game growing well into the future. Unbiased feedback in the current community climate is good.

    • @flamemano
      @flamemano 3 года назад +3

A friend of mine also recently quit WoW and started playin PoE and we agreed for him to also go in blind without my help until he reaches maps and really needs some help on how to progress further. He played a Cyclone Slayer and it took him around 50 hours to reach maps, because he just didnt know you have to hold Cyclone,s o he always tapped it, jumped in and out of packs with leap slam and used Heralds of Purity Minions to help him with tanking and he didnt see anything wrong with that, because THATS how he thought the game is supposed to play early on and the whole speed clearing and stuff comes in the end game. I think Preach really hits the nail on the head with a lot of his comments. He doesnt care about zooming through the map, he's there for the challenging gameplay and the boss killing. I personally think Boss Mechanics need to be completely overhauled, with a lot more focus on mechanically challenging players and draining their flasks/resources, rather than a box checked for "do you have more than 5k life" and "do you do more than 1 million shaper dps"
    I'd personally really enjoy boss fights that take longer than 30 seconds, so that would give them a reason to relook at flasks again with the intention of finding a middle ground of power between mapping, and longer boss fights. It would be like bringing a healer with you to a raid boss.

      That's the expedition bosses. They are probably the most well made new bosses we have gotten in the last 4years. Deffintly up there with uberElder and uberAtziri.
      They even have mechanics that interact with the environment they are in. Which is fantastic and a clear magnitude of betterment of GGG boss design, I hope we get more of that from now on.
      Too bad the expedition uniques are all dead on arrival.

    "I could have dodged this, I could have done that... That's the stuff I love..."
    THIS. The random one-shots and clarity currently existing in POE is way too low. Coming from someone with a modest 4500 hours on primarily HC, that's exactly what I crave AND what I miss.
    "Why don't the fights reset when you die?!"
    DUDE AGAIN WITH THE TRUTH. PREACH, KEEP PREACHING.

    I've been subbed to Preach for several years now, and I've been watching bits of his journey, so I knew this would be a good episode, but it was so much better than I anticipated. Great questions and great discussion! I loved hearing Preach's views as a new player to PoE but a veteran to RPGs. Fantastic job by everyone, but I really loved how giddy Raiz was the whole time.

    As a hardcore gamer who has only been playing PoE for a few months it was great listening to Preach because that's 100% how it feels and I think people have forgotten how rough it is to be new. Hmm this goes in the map thingy I wonder what it does... whee.... *dies*

    Longtime viewer of Preach here, never been to your channel or have it recommended to me before, a couple highlights from Preach's PoE stream of the first day made me start playing the game also, I did "try" back when it released but hated the UI and stuff so never gave it a shot until a couple weeks ago, it's fun but very challenging, I'm currently in Act6. The podcast was quite entertaining to watch :) Cheers

    Please interview AvoidingthePuddle/Aris! He started PoE about a league or two ago so he’s still a relatively new player. This league he progressed pretty far into endgame and I think his perspective on the current state of PoE would be super interesting. Also he plays exclusively on CONSOLE.

    Alright guys, this was such an awesome podcast! What a pleasure to hear Preach articulate thoughts on the game from a new-player perspective. Big hats off to you for managing not to spoil anything for him, that had to be so difficult. I want to see next episode, when Preach get to higher tiers of PoE content, how it will feel for him moving forward! In the meantime, I have a new streamer to watch on Twitch/RUclips!
    I think this was the coolest Baeclast so far. Episodes with GGG people are great fun to watch, but this one was truly special! Thanks again, what a great 3 hours :)

      It for sure does a job of teaching people to just throw their face into stuff. In reality a new player should be taught that maybe they need to go farm more or upgrade their gear.

    • @rawrproductions5963
      @rawrproductions5963 3 года назад +2

      im inclined to agree (as a veteran) but there is a need that you can broodforce bosses down, because of the fact that changing your build if u lack damage or survivability is not as easy, more like impossible, when stuck.
      imagine having no damage for dominus or surivability for his presquads. you can maybe get some adjustments and levels here and there, but if you are mechanically not gifted or just not really prepared u are more likely to quit the game (because then it is a literal "cock block"). there needs to be a way for new players to not feel like you are just not good enough for the game.
      Hope you get the point

      My first reaction when I heard the suggestion was apprehension as I am one of those who just buy the gems needed for progression, throw on my level 1 gear and mindlessly hurl bodies at the campaign until I can play the „real“ game. If the campaign bosses were actual adversaries leveling alts has the potential to be more interesting - or tedious. Not sure about that one.

    At around 26:20 when he talks about people being intimidated by crafting and wanting to trade instead I feel like it's only half true. It is more efficient to spend a set amount of currency for an item you know will be good vs gambling and hoping it will turn out that way. Additionally, as far as crafting through currency is concerned, where are they getting all these exalts to slam?

    I came across Preach from Asmongold coverage on Blizzard's lawsuits. I quit blizzard games for different reasons and took a break from gaming then tried the PoE hype at the last year and now into my 3rd league. All i can say is i wished i came a long time ago, but as for Preach i started watching his videos about a week ago, and his unguided jump into PoE. I really like Mike and for everything he stands for, very big fan of him now. Welcome to PoE and i am sure you are gonna find a lot of new followers, dont change for anyone and goodluck Preach Gaming!!
