We just found one of these new old stock at a down and out local hobby shop. We picked it up honestly just to help out the owner a bit and started tinkering with it. Cool little truck and we'll probably go ahead and copy all your modifications.
Gonna try this steering mod. I’ve had this crawler a year or more & the steering has always been my main gripe with it. It practically needs a football field to turn in! 😂
Picked alot of tips up with this Video bro. Can't beat free mods 😄 fantastic bench build my good friend 👍performance is fantastic and it looks great ,👍loved every minute ❤
Nice mods! The lower gravity however, I’m afraid that the tradeoff is that you’ll get stuck high center more often. I guess it depends what kind of obstacles you do with it!
in order to lower the center of gravity, without sacrificing the ground clearance, try adding weight to the insides of the wheels, like wrapping wire around the rims. while you are at it, remove the foam. that will help with the tire flex, plus it won't hold on to water so badly. I found with removing the foam, and plugging the holes in the rims with glue, it actually helped with traction having the constant pressure. you can also loosen the bead locks and squeeze the tires then reinstall the bead locks to have even lower-pressure tires that won't hold water. this way I don't have to disassemble and clean the insides of my wheels afer going through water. I guess if you already drilled holes through your tires it might be too late, but other people could still give it a try, and it is completely reversible if you sont like how it drives. just scrape out the glue and you're good to go.
Sorry - but I am not a fan of adding rotating weight or sealing tires. Rotating weight is especially bad on this truck, where the driveshafts tend to be a weak spot. But - if it works for you, great!
@@RoadsideRC Ah, good point. I guess I didn't think about that affecting driveshafts. after breaking at least three sets, I bought some cast aluminum shafts and cut them down to the right length. I am hoping I can get a video up of how to do it soon, as I couldn't find any earlier. it was a fairly simple process, with a Dremel and $20 for the shafts, I haven't had any more problems. if I do get it up, Ill send a link. if you still use these crawlers, it makes a huge improvement.
Great job absolutely excellent. The only thing I would spend money on is the two-in-one ESC. That's the ESC that comes in the amp Mt. So that is made for more speed then anyting, hard to remain tire speed at a steady pace with that ESC. I would just upgrade it 2A barrage ESC that's set for crawling and 3s battery. Okay everyone have a great day and a great crawl oh the ESC cost $39 maybe 29 worth every penny
Where did you find a Everst 16? I've been trying to get one for a while. No one has them since they have been discontinued. I have the Everst 10 and love it. I have the temper 2, and the Exceed MadWatt 1/16 crawler and they all look very similar to the Everst 16.
@@LEVARIOMIKE I actually got it about 3 years bacl from a site called Mercari. I've seen a few listed since then. sll they have tight now is the OG Temper listed. But i think gonna revert mine to stock and sell it. got a few other projects lined up and the E16 seem pretty desirable.
@@LEVARIOMIKE I was originally looking for a Maxstone becuse they are harder to find. but i ended up finding the E16. and yeah they are very similar. There was an HSP kulak that used all the same parts. someone made a few 3d prints for the kulak, even going as far as protal axles. I haven't printed any but I have designed a few parts. Like a new skid to change the link position and Chassis rails and Center backets for supporting the shocks. mine is hardly recognizable any more.
@@tiedtomemory8864 Do you mean the Madstone? The 1/16 crawler with two motors? I was trying to get that one but they are out of stock. Do you know which came first? They all look so similar who copied who?
I bought two of these crawlers after seeing your video. My son and I love them. However, I’ve found that the skid plate/transmission mounting plate to be very fragile. We’ve broken the same rear linkage tab on that plate. They are back ordered so we managed to super glue them together temporarily. Have you had similar issues?
Sometimes just splitting the lugs really helps. Especially if you're just dealing with slick surfaces and not needing to widen the gaps between the lugs.
Thanks for the tip! I had an unboxing and first test video that came out just a few days earlier that I considered the "before" run. However, I guess that gets lost with time. Thanks again!
I just got this rig and it is a blast for sure but yeah the steering is not great. I just wonder about replacing the bearings with bushings as Shen RC advises when doing the steering mod. He reckons if you trim the nubs off and bend the rod to get a tighter steering radius the bearings will get damaged if not replaced with bushings. So wondering if you had to do this and if not how have the bearings held up? Thanks.
I really can't follow Shen RCs logic there. Bearings are better, 100% of the time. The while time I drove this truck, never had issues with the bearings.
@@RoadsideRC Thanks so much. I will do this mod as you have done. Really like this rig and look forward to lots of run times with it. Stay safe and keep on truckin'.
It sure can! It does not have low voltage cutoff, so you will need to watch your run times or get a lipo alarm. I ran a lipo alarm - but it ran so long that it never went off!
I wasn't sure so I put the electronics for the Redcat Everest 10 in it. I bought a second set of them for another rc I have cause I liked them so much.
I'm not allowed to use my Hobby blade,, I have it put up from my self. Lol. I cut the top tip of my finger off .. it's growing back,, I don't thank I will have a finger print on there any more. Lol. I have the braggae gen2 ecx. There about the same. I going to do the shock mod.. then I get it back out .. it's been a bit .. Thanks for sharing,, Be safe,, 🙄👍
You should try rubber bands instead of the spring mod. Spring mod limits the down travel by the amount of the compressed spring -- with rubber bands you get the full travel both ways
@@RoadsideRC on the temper I would just put some bands long enough to wrap around the axle and then the top of the shock mount. And you only want bands that are only strong enough to give you a bit of droop but weak enough as to not compress the shock more than 40% (unless thats how much droop you want) I'm actually going out to buy a temper today because of your videos on this thing. That is a very capable rig and looks to be a good project!
Thanks! From what I remember of 1:1 scale, cutting springs actually effectively increases the spring rate....but shortens them. In this situation shorter may be better, but the springs are already too firm.
@@RoadsideRC that’s right! I forgot about the increase in torsional stiffness. Excited to see more videos on this thing. Subscribed. I just recently started getting interested in RC’s. A hobby I can share with my kids.
@@rekik66 YES! That is exactly why I got back into RC after many years. My full scale vehicles and what I was doing with them just wasn't appropriate for my kids to be around. With RC, it is MUCH cheaper than full scale and it has been a great thing to do with my kids.

The shock mod put you at a disadvantage in my opinion.. you lost all your movement. But I do love that truck.. I bought both colors I love it so much.. rc addiction eh.... do like the steering mod! Thanks
Getting the truck lower was my main goal. I agree, that ideally I would do this with softer springs that still allows full suspension movement - but I was trying to do it for free!

I think this truck is really under-rated. I even took it to our big 1/10 crawler spot, and it really surprised me!
Great content bro. Free mods are always good, loving the technical creativity you apply to this rig to help assist in performance.

The lower certainly makes me drive more carefully. Tire placement is very important, but the benefit is there!
