Done. ruclips.net/video/ioQAWOmLV0o/видео.html
Would be nice to add Wi-Fi to The C64 Maxi...Just a thought.
exactly. That was my impression at the start of the video, and i was very happy for this as it is not practical to copy disks to a usb in pc and then move the stick to the c64. But the outcome was not exactly what i had expected :)
I got a stupid question I gotten my Maxi commodore 64 and notice there no volume control too turn down the music and sounds when playing games, im using my computer monitor that is connected too my maxi
Turn the volume down on the monitor. All screens with built-in audio have volume control.
Does anyone know why Commodore dedicated a whole key to nothing but the English Pound sign... !?!?!?!?! When you were really typing $ all the friggin time... for strings
I don't know for sure but I can guess. Sinclair and Acorn. UK market. The PET did not have the English Pound sign key, it showed up on the VIC-20, which was up against the Sinclair ZX-80/ZX-81 and the Acorn line the UK market. I will bet you a nickel it was a Jack Tramiel power move "we have room for another key? we'll make it more British than their own damn computers!"
Can you not do the same thing with a battery charge pack and just leave the charging tail out and run it through there as well? Might just be easier for those of us that do not want to do many mods....
Sure, but where's the fun in that?
Very nice work Josh. Seems like a really good setup now. I'd be terrible at this sort of thing. I'll stick to just Game playing. On to the next project, whatever it is. Gonna be interesting for sure.
Nice video, i def sub, thanks dude. Commodore Hardcore fan here :)
hugs from Spain, Europe ♥
i want to get hold of c64 Maxi. i have c64 mini. i do have pi 4
Nice! one question, is that a Unihertz Titan I see?
Yes. There is a new video planned for it and the Unihertz Jelly 2 coming soon.
Great video, But I have to say the music playing while you were talking is irritating, I don't understand the reasoning for terrible background music in you tube videos
Nice work. I will come back and watch the whole thing later.
Similar mods, but better executed, than that VIC-20 with the fake "working cartridge port". Which was just a TheC64 painted white.
Btw it's called TheC64, not The C64.
Plus there is no "maxi" in the name.
@@brostenen May as well accept the Maxi handle. It's pretty solidly established to differentiate this model from the Mini. At this point, it doesn't matter that it's not a manufacturer's designation.
@@Vector_Ze I do accept it is what it is. But only because I have one original breadbin, one SixtyClone that I personally made and currently building a keyboard adaptor for my homemade ATX64.
Confused. What is the purpose of putting thr Pi in the case?
would it be possible to add a user port interface to run external projects like the good old Commodore 64 and VIC20 had?
No. It isn't capable of that. The Raspberry Pi is, however.
Seeing a C64 in this state saddens me..
It's a Retro Games THEC64, not an original breadbox, if that helps any.
It needs analog audio out.
Any thoughts on ways to add that?
Yes. We did that with the mini and these options will work with the full size. ruclips.net/video/xtGT5YHhh0g/видео.html
the C 64 Commodore is not connect Raspberry PI
Since when did the c64 have a keyboard? Thought u were doin a mini.
Fun project.
I feel that you should have bought one of them new produced model C cased, a pi adaptor kit and used a keyrah adaptor instead.
It would have been a very different project then.
@@gigsplain True and indeed. But it would meet the same requirements and the end result, would be a bit more tight, from an enginering perspective. The advantage would be an original keyboard. I have a TheC64 in my collection, and I really dont like the quality of the keyboard. If the makers, just have used a spring under each keycap like original keyboard, then it would have been the best hardware solution for the Vice emulator that it is build with.
@@brostenen the issue is I didn't want an original keyboard. I wanted to be able to use TheC64 keyboard on multiple platforms. I really don't have any complaint about the keyboard itself. Things are made differently today and I will leave it up to you whether that is good or bad. As I mentioned in the video, the additional USB was a bit redundant but otherwise, I think it worked out how I intended it to. I also have several Commodore 64 projects that are waiting on original style keyboards or keycaps. With those projects what you suggest makes sense but this was not like those projects.
@@gigsplain That is true. All projects are different from each other. Personally I dont think the keyboard is the same quality as the original, but that might just be me. But it is a nice project that you have done here.
@@brostenen You're definitely right about the keyboard, however even though it seems a bit less sturdy than an original, I personally find that it types a lot better. I feel like a bmc64 build would be more satisfying, but they are way too common tbh. This project was definitely interesting, and personally, I have always fantasized about having a pi inside a c64 to switch between playing classic games, and using piOS
So, I can add a USB to my Commodore 64? The old animal is much to slow for that!
No. This is The C64. Not an original hardware Commodore 64.
How does the original boards processor compare to the pi-3? I wold love to see a hack keeping the stock board but have access to Linux and a small web browser using a USB wifi. Do you thing it could handle it?
The Pi3 is a 64 bit processor running around 1.4 gigahertz (depending on the Pi). TheC64 uses something similar but a little slower and less capable than the Pi 3. The Pi has WiFi and Ethernet capabilities so it can go on the Internet easily and is something within the reach of a lot of people. While hacking TheC64 board then adding the capabilities back into the board the Pi already has might be a fun project, it is an academic exercise at best.
I love this project I want to do this to mine
I have a C64 Maxi.
