Dear Viking, I know exactly what you are feeling. My "puppy" of 14 years, Toby, died nearly a year ago while I was in Germany to bury my mother. My husband had to make the heavy decision to end Toby's pain. Toby was my little soul mate. Dan's emotions and tears in this song reflect the pain he was feeling from the loss of his father. As you said, we all have our own frame of reference, and it might change from time to time. What never changes is how Dan slides into our hearts and souls. So sorry to hear about your puppy, doesn't matter his age. I have been through the same experience and it hurts. Dan is unique and I'm always happy hear his new songs. This song, specially that silence at the end reminded me the path I experience in the last four years with my mother's illness. Late at the night she passed away I was with her talking gently, then I prayed and kept there quietly and peacefully told her goodnight, as I always did, wished her to rest peacefully and kissed her. Saying "see you tomorrow", which I knew I wouldn't, brought a peaceful silence. That's the silence that makes you understand the significance of what happened or will happen soon. If i remember correctly Dan mentioned on a geeks and gamer episode a few years ago, he had real emotions as his father had passed not long before he recorded this.
When I hear this song, I think of a few things, 2 of my friends, that commited suicide, 1 from PTSD and 1 from depression. My other friend that lost everything, his ex actually killed his only daughter and then herself, he went through hell, but ultimately died 3 years later, I still think of a broken heart. My mother, that fought cancer, but when you asked her if she had pain, she said God carried the bulk of the pain. My own failed marraige, which in the end I decided to forgive the wrong, and now feels like a new person that can conquer anything and lastly a special lady friend I lost in an accident, her last words almost 40 years ago was, don't cry, just follow your road and never look back.

Today I was thinking about my best friend, she passed a couple of years ago and today was the anniversary of that. She introduced me the The Lord Of The Rings, a short cartoon version of it she had from somewhere. She was Dyslexic and had never even tried to read the books, so over the course of the following couple of years I read them to her. She also introduced me to Rock music... these tears are happy ones, the memories cherished. I needed this today.

So sorry to hear about your puppy, doesn't matter his age. I have been through the same experience and it hurts. Dan is unique and I'm always happy hear his new songs. This song, specially that silence at the end reminded me the path I experience in the last four years with my mother's illness. Late at the night she passed away I was with her talking gently, then I prayed and kept there quietly and peacefully told her goodnight, as I always did, wished her to rest peacefully and kissed her. Saying "see you tomorrow", which I knew I wouldn't, brought a peaceful silence. That's the silence that makes you understand the significance of what happened or will happen soon. My heart goes out to you Viking. I've dealt with losing a dog to cancer and I will be letting go of another dog this week. I know the pain as I too feel it. There's comfort in knowing they no longer feel pain. It's now ours to bear.

As the music comes to a close, I love how Dan brought in such an ethereal vocal choir that sounds like angels singing, which is like it is telling us that it is the beginning of a new story for the one who has departed. If i remember correctly Dan mentioned on a geeks and gamer episode a few years ago, he had real emotions as his father had passed not long before he recorded this.

When I hear this song, I think of a few things, 2 of my friends, that commited suicide, 1 from PTSD and 1 from depression. My other friend that lost everything, his ex actually killed his only daughter and then herself, he went through hell, but ultimately died 3 years later, I still think of a broken heart. My mother, that fought cancer, but when you asked her if she had pain, she said God carried the bulk of the pain. My own failed marraige, which in the end I decided to forgive the wrong, and now feels like a new person that can conquer anything and lastly a special lady friend I lost in an accident, her last words almost 40 years ago was, don't cry, just follow your road and never look back.
Thanks Viking. So emotional this one, Dan did it again. Stay strong Viking and everyone else too, our cat was the child we couldn't have so I know how it feels to be losing a member of your family. I remember the sadness of losing a pet as a child, your kids need your strength. Hugs
Today I was thinking about my best friend, she passed a couple of years ago and today was the anniversary of that. She introduced me the The Lord Of The Rings, a short cartoon version of it she had from somewhere. She was Dyslexic and had never even tried to read the books, so over the course of the following couple of years I read them to her. She also introduced me to Rock music... these tears are happy ones, the memories cherished. I needed this today.
