    A Damphir Moon Druid could Wild Shape and use the Constitution of their beast form for the bite. You can allow the beast form to get down below half hit points without worrying about death. Add the Piercer feat for a little extra damage. Plus you can walk on ceilings in your Wild Shapes.
    Another route is to play a spellcaster and cast Sleep for autocrits with bite. When you are down to half hit points, then opponents might also be low on hit points. This would allow Seep to land.

    RAW, Vampiric bite is considered a simple weapon, which means it qualifies as a Monk weapon. And even if your DM doesn't allow it to be considered, you can still make it a Dedicated Weapon, or Kensei weapon so the damage die scales with Monk unarmed dmg. Combined that with 8 lvls of War Cleric and you get an extra d8 of weapon dmg to your attacks. So by lvl 20, your bite should be doing 1d8+Con, +1d8 War Cleric, +1d8 Deft Strike, +3 Sharpen the Blade, +1d8 on Crits from the piercer feat.

    • @WexMajor82
      @WexMajor82 Год назад +4

      So. Let's optimize this.
      You take 2 levels of GRAVE cleric instead for having the ability to give vulnerability to an opponent.
      You go ranger, Gloomstalker gives you bonus damage on the first turn and hunter's mark.
      Then you go Rogue, 3 levels to get the best part of assassin.
      Oh, and if you really want, go also shadow monk (but Kensai is the optimized choice).
      Grab piercer for obvious reasons.
      Now, while stealthed, you use your invoke divinity to give vulnerability, then you sneak behind the target, you mark it with hunter's mark and go down.
      1d4+2d6+1d6 (you can reroll one of those for piercer) and since this is an autocrit, add another d6; add CON (+4) and you have an average damage of 24 - 25 damage.
      Doubled because vulnerability, doubled because critical, for about 100DMG on the first attack.
      Enjoy.

    I have a build brewing where instead of Tanking using Barbarian, You use Paladin instead. The D10 Hit Die, Lay on Hands, capability to smite with your bite attack, using the interception fighting style to catch weapons in between your teeth, having Auras, being able to Spider Climb with Full Plate. It's all pretty nice. Piercer is a nice feet to optimize your bite, you can also grab the unarmed fighting style to grapple as a FREE action.
    I've been brewing this build for awhile now. The bite function also works with a druids wildshape.

    A bit strange perhaps but this inspired me for 20 lvl straight Dhampir Samurai build.
    As at lvl 15 going below half health now means an extra attack. The lvl 18 feature where if you go to 0 hp you take another turn, but if you recover hp you don't go unconscious, so being a Dhampir ... okay I'll bite.

    I also kinda like zealot seeing how hard it is to kill this barbarian and if you do end up falling to 0 hp (at 14+) it's time to start biting.
    The rp and story for both these subclasses is amazing. Of the top of my head AG barbarian the spirits are all your previous victims, with you vowing to not let the same happen to the rest of the party. Zealot, you worship the being that turned you into a Dhampir for it was your greatest love ever, but upon their demise some of their undead power is infused into you and now you can't die and seek to complete his goal/revenge/bring him back(?).

    I love this concept. Tank characters are always so cool to make and play. Did you look at the Beast Barbarian’s bite attack as well? I think an argument could be made that they could stack both bites in one attack, which would be wild, though that would move you more towards damage than defense.

    Good ideas depending DM discretion to add bite damage:
    - Monk Kensei 1d4->1d6/deft strike 1d6
    - Ranger colossus slayer 1d8 once per round. Hunters mark 1d6.
    - Enlarge reduce 1d4 extra damage.
    - fighter Giant's Might +1d6 once per round
    - Piercer feat.
    - Lots of great half feats that give +1 con or similar.
    For this build specifically, you want to REGAIN hp, not only have a large supply. Thus, picking +2con and tough is costly. When you can regenerate it is more important to get more out of each hit point. They are options and not bad ones but there are so many that are great that these dont place first. Especially as you usually end up starting with 17, you'd want to round it out with a half feat instead of the suggested +2 which is a half wasted feat at this level and better to take late game once everything is in place.

    Since you've already let go of the STR based attacks, it's worth noting that the Longbow attacks work with the Ancestral Protectors as well. I used this tactic a while back, not to DEAL damage, but to mitigate damage.
    I hit a target at range greater than it can overcome. It's then forced to attack at disadvantage, if at all. Then, even if it manages to hit, it does half damage.

If you didnt want to risk the AoO and you have to wait until the thing in front of you is dead before moving tot he next thing even then i feel the straight +5 is going to net you more healing than fishing for crits on a 1d4 is

  • @kevinwlee1
    @kevinwlee1 Год назад

    I went with a slightly different spread and idea for a dhampir tank. I did a multi-class of Rogue/Barbarian that loses some of that resilience you're sporting, but gains some more dhampir flavor. 1st level rogue - using expertise to gain the double proficiency bonus on Athletics and Stealth. Then go straight Barb until you hit level 6 with it for the second attack. The point-buy spread is more Str 14, Dex 14, Con 17, Wis 10, Int 8, Cha 8. The first feat you grab is Tavern Brawler, and your primary goal with the build is to hit things and immediately grapple them. For sub-class, I took Path of the Beast so that my character could pick up a couple of claw attacks. However, when I want to go tank I grow the tail during my rage to raise AC and use a shield. There's effectively two modes for the character. You use a shield and smash people with it to then use bonus action to grapple or you pop claws for some more attacks and go claw + claw + bite. It's sort of a feral vampiric warrior flavor, but your build definitely I think wins out on being more effective as a tank. I think next time I play I will make use of Ancestral Guardian when I do the build. A magic item that really would benefit both builds is shooting for something that artificially raises the suboptimal strength score.

    with a dhamp biter i usually go Long Death Monk so i can get bigger damage die, gain HP for biting but also temp HP for killing, and I can still dump str. Plus it's very in line with the flavor.

    This is a nice build for sure, and 1d4+5(or 7 at lv 20 but let’s slow down) is nice, but it only works proficiency bonus number of times, so I don’t know if it’s better then beast barbarian who gets proficiency bonus back (once per turn) every round for 10 rounds. Of course the advantage of the damphir is that the damage can stack so you can use it both times you attack and it can be moded, but all your mods come from a crit so it could work well 5% of the time. Again I’m not sure how well it would work, maybe you only need burst healing every now and then so it’s better then beast, or maybe beasts lesser but ever present bite is better. It suck’s that neither feature functions above half hp, vampiric touch and grim harvest both work above half hp (regardless of them using the wizards hp), and the fighter features that heal also don’t work above half hp.

    Personally, if I was going to make a Dhampir that use's that bite often. I would have gone Monk. Rules as written it says that the bite is a melee natural weapon that you are proficient with this means that the bite is now a monk weapon, and that d4 is going to scale with unarmored strike instead all the way up to d10. Go Mercy monk and you can do additional necrotic damg through that bite as well.
