I've been wanting to take the opening cutscene where he rips your heart out to my University's Latin Department so I can get a translation of what he says.
One of the few games that does a Dragon correctly. Intimidating and four legs, allowing the front claws to be used as both weapons, or even casting spells. Along with that, allowing him to stand up tall and proudly as his wings spread to envelop the sky, blocking out the sun as his head is held high. unlike other games where they take the Wyvern design and the "dragon" spends more time eating mud by holding their entire body as low as possible to the ground. Grigori was intimidating as hell.
@@ryan1000011Sure, and in many cases that works quite well. But when it comes to dragons I believe this design is superior. The low to the ground or two limb version is usually used by movie and game designers to give them a more threatening appearance. And I cannot stress enough how big of a mistake that is. A dragon's design has always been so successful due to its representation of "pride", its grandiose stature and appearing as a insurmountable mountain. They are not supposed to be creepy, they are supposed to be imposing, yet carry themselves somewhat majestically. This is why Grigori is one of the best game dragons, despite games like Skyrim existing, who's "Dragons" are pretty forgettable despite being the central theme of the game. They even do the part correctly where a Dragon's breath attack is beyond what most magic can achieve, but also not being the Dragon's only option as in many older stories with dragons, they are usually adapt at spellcasting too, far outclassing any combat skills most humans would acquire in a lifetime.
Gregori, the Great Dragon... He is no demon, not a thing of evil. He offers a choice, not a temptation. A test to prove the worth of one who's will would shoulder the world. No, I say that Gregori is an angel, a messenger of the almighty sent to find the one who would be his replacement. An angel of destruction that calls the hero to action, but never forced them to do anything. This is the Dragon's Dogma: To choose is to exert will, to have will is to live. To choose is life itself... The throne lies beyond, arisen... Have you the will to see this challenge through?
The way I see it, Grigori is the opposite of the Seneschal and yet they work together. For if they fail to beat the dragon then they take the dragon’s place
@@isaacmcconley4965 if you fail to beat the Dragon, or die before you reach him, you become one of the lesser drakes. Listen to the lesser dragons. They still retain memories of their past life.
Having speeding through this game, paying no mind to side quests, I ended up having the little girl in the red dress as my beloved... Turned a pretty decent ended into a pretty awkward one.
Genuinely hope they refine that system if they decide to bring it back especially because with the current climate in the gaming world that would blow up in all the wrong ways
The Grigori are bound by their duty to the seneschal, but this one clearly has other plans. He's not just trying to make sure you're up to the task of killing him as the seneschal demands, but he slips you the godsbane dagger in his death as a final middle finger to fate so that you can actually finish the cycle after offing the seneschal with their own godsbane sword.
That's where you are wrong. The cycle is never ending, never breaking wheel. At least to the lore here are the outcomes: 1. Accept the bargain of dragon - rule the land. New Arisen is chosen for same Dragon. 2. Kill the dragon and challenge seneschal, but loose the fight - you are casted down from rift and reincarnated as new dragon. 3. Kill the dragon amd defetead the seneschal - seneschal becomes the dragon, while you ascend the throne - ever waiting for another to break you free. No matter you do, if you choose to resist and fight you are bound to be part of the cycle as Arisen and the dragon, and as seneschal if you are deemed worthy, only to recycle the fate at some point. Only those who run and accept the dragon bargain are truly set free from cycle - fates irony, since they are not reincarneted either as dragons or new arisens. They cease to exist.
@@tengizoniani5029Where is that stated in the lore? From what I remember the only ones removed from the cycle were Seneschals, and maybe the dragons, upon death.
@@tengizoniani5029 você confundiu algumas coisas aí no final.

@@orion_x-000 I was a bit hyped when I heard it existed but then as soon as I heard the dragons I yelled "that's no grigori". Same with a lot of "artistic liberties" taken. Dammit my characters "beloved" was the dumb princess and I wanted to kill her but I also wanted to complete the objective of the game and *fight the goddamn dragon.*
As in the Duchess? Yeah, if you complete her sidequest she's automatically your beloved. However, there's a way around it: during the rescue quest, abuse the shit out of her. I spent about twenty minutes throwing her full-force into a wall, followed by a good ten minutes of flinging her into the cold water. She was *not* happy, and I managed to drain all of her affection points that way. Thus she wasn't my 'beloved' for this scene. This is a pro tip for all future Arisen who don't want that forced bullshit for your character but still want to 100% the game.
>Mercedes as your beloved Absolute chad. Also, I think what I love most is that they could have just made it an option select on a dialogue screen, but no, you have to physically walk towards Grigori to challenge him. When I got to this scene, I didn’t just walk towards him; I drew my sword first. It added something to it I felt.
The fact that you have to skip Grigori’s dialogue and fight to get the true ending is absurd. I understand that Grigori is different. Clearly dd2 Grigori is more of an unwilling prisoner of the cycle like we are, but I feel like the dd1 route worked better
@@yamnbam4346 Grigori raises a hero. He knows you're striving beyond normal men. He loves it. Pedro Kantor that was intentional, the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions even had Berserk armors and weapons. Mercedes design is based off of Casca supposedly.

This fantastic game is a bit short on story in many parts but damn were the developers able to deliver when it mattered the most. This scene is so well produced it's saddening that not more gamers are familiar with it. The voice acting, the actual things Grigori says, the framings of the shots, the cuts, it's just perfection.
this game needs to be remastered for next gen and have more DLC love, or at least bring back the dragons dogma online. forever my #1 favorite game, will never get bored of playing it
Kind of jealous of the arisen because they can hear his voice whenever they put their hand against their chest o.o I hope in the supposed new Dragon's Dogma, we get the same dragon and same voice if it's a reboot/remake as the leaks say...
I always wondered. Who was the Dragon when Savan slayed it? Those who are the Dragon die permanently when the Arisen kills them, but when Savan sees the Dragon, it’s voiced by Grigori. But, Savan kills his dragon and ascends to the Seneschal. Yet, our Dragon is voiced by Grigori also. So confusing..
It could be that the Dragon's voice is the same for all dragons. At least in the series this happens (regardless of how much of a dissapointment it was) However, Savan kills his dragon and doesnt fail in his fight for Seneschal, then when does grigori come? When does he fail to be Seneschal? Could it be that once a new Seneschal is selected the world "restarts" (since we can see Gran Soren and Cassardis completely untouched as Seneschal)?
I think it's very possible that Savan is the last "true" Arisen. I mean, the opening kinda makes it seem like Savan's confrontation with the dragon was a really long time ago, and considering that he's been Seneschal since, it's more than possible that Grigori is just that effective. I mean, Grigori, whenever he speaks to us seems pretty fed up with it all, which could mean that he's been the Dragon for multiple cycles now with there being no one to replace him. So once you take over, Grigori is the Dragon once more, because there was no one before you to replace him
There isn't any cutscene in all the games I've played that has made me laugh more than this one here. The second time I played the game the dragon picked Quina's father as my beloved.
Imagine if you could pick the sacrifice option. Romance someone you hate, sacrifice them, Grigori peaces out, and everything is well. Well, except that monsters still run on the land
The true "Legendary Black Dragon" we monster hunter fans never actually got. Im not asking for an outright talking "philoso-fatalis" but at least something a bit more supporting of the lore Fatalis is associated with in the games. I hope Iceborne will throw us some bones...
@William King I mean elder dragons are supposed to be intelligent beings it would make sense for them to learn the human language . Honestly I am kinda surprised they haven't done it already
SOME SPOILERS FOR DD2 . . . I ADORE DD2. L152h for my first playthrough. However, DD2's dragon holds no candle over Grigori in mystique, stature and poetic speech. The writing for his dialogues in DD1 is flawless. I think it's fine for them to be different since it's not the same dragon, but still in terms of presentation and dialogue, they could have done better.

The moment you hear the dragons voice, you can't help but think that he is doing research for his book
Might as well call my Arisen Pain
I wish we could've heard more from Grigori
I've been wanting to take the opening cutscene where he rips your heart out to my University's Latin Department so I can get a translation of what he says.

@@tlmacmillan1 lmao get that whack wow skank outta here
One of the few games that does a Dragon correctly.
That's mostly because while hunting predators get low
@@ryan1000011 Its a fantasy dragon though.
To hunt it spits fire, grabs prey with a flyby, or just stomp them with their claw.
@@jefthereaper oh absolutely but myth and art pull from nature so just trying to rationalize the decision
Grigori best waifu

*Gran Soren guards angry knocking angrily*
Genuinely hope they refine that system if they decide to bring it back especially because with the current climate in the gaming world that would blow up in all the wrong ways
that line where the subtitles are missing for the goblins says:
"We kills 'em cuz we wants 'em dead!"
At least to the lore here are the outcomes:

I would much rather they use the original or at least try to mimic a bit. Like the way people speak for instance. I couldn't for the life of me understand why the dragon spoke in a way so much more dated than the game and everyone else spoke normal English... I really like the little touches of "aught" and stuff in the original. Why they didn't do it is beyond me...
Grigori is such a unique and charismatic antagonist. I absolutely love him. His fight and the song that come along are absolutely epic
This is what I call an "enemy".
my god this speech is epic
this speech is a poem through and through, i cannot be convinced otherwise, the way, weight and measure in wich is spoken, the elegant and beautiful choice of words, if taken out of context one could interpret It in so many ways, in one such way It reminds me a bit of Parmenides's poem somehow

truly an artist of words. jesus christ
I love the idea of saying 'Hey Grigori, can you kill her *then* we fight?
kenjutsukata1o1 wait what? Did her quest and ended up with Madeline, and the last time I saw her was in the dungeon and then I never saw her again

Also, I think what I love most is that they could have just made it an option select on a dialogue screen, but no, you have to physically walk towards Grigori to challenge him.
When I got to this scene, I didn’t just walk towards him; I drew my sword first. It added something to it I felt.
Same dude. Physically making you decide made it so much more badass!
Its sad that this Grigori was 1000x better than the new one.
He wants to make sure in every fiber of your being that you're really ready to take up arms and fight against evil. Even tempts you with so much, to make sure you are a TRUE hero.

I love the goblins in the background lmfao.
I always thought this game shared a lot of similarities to Berserk.
Pedro Kantor that was intentional, the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions even had Berserk armors and weapons.
Mercedes design is based off of Casca supposedly.
Gutts vs Grigori would be an anazing fight, but I also get the feeling that Grigori would be against Griffith and the Godhand.
A year late, but there's even a character preset that greatly resembles Guts. One eye closed, scar across his face, same haircut, tall, left arm bare, and a huge sword on his back. I never understood why he looked like that when I first got this game. I hadn't read/watched Berserk, but after looking into it some more recently (thanks to Dark Souls 3) I immediately realized who that preset was supposed to be. Pretty good impression of him actually.
@@TheStraightestWhitest they also had direct cross promotional content with the trilogy for Berserk: The Golden Age Arc which had come out around the same time dragon's dogma was released. at this point i dont know why we keep getting shitty berserk games when we have masterpieces like dragons dogma and the souls series reminding us how completely possible it is to make a good one.

I see you are a man of culture
You are reading this comment because the new trailer of DD2 just dropped and David Lodge's return has been confirmed.
At least in the series this happens (regardless of how much of a dissapointment it was)
However, Savan kills his dragon and doesnt fail in his fight for Seneschal, then when does grigori come?
So once you take over, Grigori is the Dragon once more, because there was no one before you to replace him
But not Mankind. Some welcome the end with arms outstretched, while others come to face death incarnate, arms in hand.
