    I love your videos but I have a tiny nitpick, that's Art Nouveau, not Art Deco, The easiest way to remember is art deco is more angular and solid, while art nouveau is more flowing. Again, sorry to nitpick, but I love both styles and I'm a art history nerd.

      You're totally right. Art Nouveau is for elves, Art Deco is for dwarves.

    I took this and dropped it into Alfheim (the old elf gazetteer). It really spiced things up. I just later revealed to the players the gardens where created by the May Queen. A great and powerful Fae Noble. The Alfheim Lord's owed her a favor.

    Garden of Ynn is awesome, I've run a couple of sessions, and looking forward to run more (my players keep wanting to go back!)
    Also, every time I go through the bestiary and see the Questing Beast, I think of your channel, so I'm happy you got around to review this!

    I get the idea of spontaneously rolling stuff as you go along, but I think it pays to pre-roll encounters, etc beforehand. Gives you time to put more detail and thought into what you'll be presenting.

    Sweet! I'm getting some major bioshock 1-vibes as well, some few inhabitants left but all are insane, and the Jugend-artstyle. I'm going to try this with the white hack system. I'm constructing a setting in a constant autumn-setting and i think this would be a great location for that.

    Awesome video as always. Already added to wishlist on Drivethru. I was recently digging through my roleplaying games and re-found my copies of Freebooters on the Frontier and The Perilous Wilds. I was curious if you have checked them out before? They both have OSR approaches using Dungeon World.

    Hm for running it on the fly you could put everything into rollable tables if you use them on roll20 or fantasygrounds and then build a macro that rolls all of them at once. But thats just helpful for VTTs I guess. Also you would have to create each table 16 times to account for the added numbers for deeper areas... wich would mean a lot of frontloaded work but it would still be quite quick during play.

    Thanks to your videos I just bought veins of the Earth and lotfp. Your channel introduced me to osr, and I want to go all in. So 2 things, are there any books with a lot of good random encounters for wilderness travels, particularly for a hex crawls? Which leads me to next one, it would be great to see a video that maybe details the ins and outs of running a hex crawls game. Thanks!

    maybe turning these tables into cards would be a good idea
    you can shuffle and draw cards from each deck, and just read them out loud. mark cards by their depth and add them to the pile as you go deeper.

    I didn’t see it in the book (although I may have missed something) but are we aware that "gardens of Ynn" is a Lovecraftian reference? It’s a location within the Dreamlands.

    Do you have any suggestions for modern settings? Like settings based in alternate realities of our own. Other than like Shadowrun obviously.

    • @leslaychandel8334
      @leslaychandel8334 5 лет назад

      So I love using random tables in my games... it is time consuming but if you let the players roll the dice then they feel more engaged in the game. They roll the dice, I look at the charts.
      I had one super complicated chart. A little unweildy, it was a vending machine. And the dice rolled depended on what the players used for currency and then it could have been food, magic items a lot of cursed, poisoned and trapped items... it was very risky to use. But so much fun!

    • @FalkaRiannon

      Tales from the Loop has some alternate history 80s stuff going on (probably could be set in the present day too with a bit tweaking).
      Call of Cthulu can be set in the present day too and lets hope that is alternative otherwise were pretty much done XD.
      A lot of Superhero RPGs like Masks or Mutants and Masterminds would also be in modern settings.
      Also there's Worldwide Wrestling if you're into... well wrestling. Though that might well be our reality without any alteration.
      Can't think of more on the top of my head, but there are plenty out there.

    There's a lot to like about this book, but, man, do I wish it weren't so linear. I'm trying to think of a way to hack the generator to allow for multiple pathways, but it might just be easier to take all the rooms and details and draw out a 35+ room dungeon.

    • @QuestingBeast
      @QuestingBeast  5 лет назад +3

      It's very non-linear. I might not have explained it well, but you can have lots of different branching paths from a single node, and you'll run into some events that connect nodes you didn't expect.
