  • It's no secret that I had catastrophic failures with my Winters diff in Formula Drift New Jersey. We had to swap subframes quickly in the ‪@nissanusa‬ ‪@nosenergydrink‬ Z. In my new video, I talk about everything that went down about my Winters Performance differential and what the outcome is! This is the honest truth.

I was super frustrated when my diff broke last year. When I contacted them they accepted responsibility and put me on the replacement list. It took a year to get my new diff but they followed thru. I respect a company that stands behind their product and I'm sure it wasn't cheap for them to make it right for all the customers who had issues but they did.

And these are the things I want to highlight. It always sucks when things like this happens. But, the response and how companies handle situations is just as important. I’m glad you’re situated!

I ran into this same failure mode back in my time at a foundry casting IFV parts. For anyone who cares, what happened most likely is that as the aluminum cooled in the mould those thinner sections solidify first. Al mushes kind of, and so as the thicker sections cool differently the mush starts being pulled apart leaving voids in the solid metal.
Thats why the permanent moulds with controlled cooling 'fixed" the issue as those thinner sections can be kept hotter allowing the mush to occur evenly.

You 100% influenced me to go for a Winters Quick Change, a long time ago. I was able to pick up a pre-pandemic casted with all the bells and whistles for my drag 370z. I want to 1/4 im, 1/2mi and do Drag and Drive events. Having the option to change the gear ratio is amazing and I don't have to run a Gear Vendors. The Quick Change is also surprisingly light (not a feather light). I'm able to pick up the whole subframe and rear diff alone.

Winters stepped up big time to make things right and support a product that otherwise had been flawless. I imagine Chris saw the opportunity to make great, technical content and support a company that has supported him and other pro drifters for well over a decade now.

Yea our brand new diff broke during the pandemic and winters did a excellent job to remedy it. Up until that point I’ve never had a winters failure on any car I worked on and my personal car has one in it with zero issues. Stuff happens but they handled it Great. I’ll never buy another diff from anyone else based on that alone. They also came and found us in Jersey to make sure we hadn’t had any more issues.

Winters has been a partner of mine for a very long time. Doesn’t mean I don’t get frustrated also when things break. What kept me on board is the great lengths they’re going to fix their reputation and how they helped me out personally in Jersey.
Selling out for diffs will never be something you see from me.

@@chrisforsbergracingI hope you don't take this the wrong way. I've been a fan since the GRIPvideo days. The question is, they did that customer support for you, but would they do it for someone who's just a regular person that doesn't have a following?
I only say/ask because I've seen plenty of RUclipsrs that say this so and so company will do anything you need for your setup and then you contact that said company and they're saying/doing the opposite.

That would only be a valid point if he hadn't already been a customer/partner before. Plenty of new builds around in the past years and they all or almost use winters. The only one I heard of breaking was rad Dan's.

@chrisforsbergracing I enjoyed the content all the same. I only left a comment to help make you guys that money and to also voice my opinion on where the video almost lost me. The spec sheet felt my read rather than told, if that makes sense? Kind of like the old Hot Rod TV shows on Spike back in the day haha.

This definitely needs a _Paid Promotion_ disclaimer lol. Like I’m glad Winter’s semi-acknowledged the issue, but doing so by pushing out a thinly veiled sponsor testimonial… not exactly giving the warm and fuzzies.
Vans Aircraft had a similar sort of pandemic quality issue, but they published a direct _Mae Culpa_ video and have been 100% transparent. And have kept their customers updated on progress and timelines throughout the process.

I wonder if this the same batch of diffs that caused the break to Rad Dan's Diff when he was at the LZ compound a while back?
Good to see a company rectifying it, especially publicly, and not brushing it all under the carpet.

That's a great question. We contacted all our dealers as soon as we became aware of the casting issue. We replaced every single diff for every single dealer and customer who's contacted us with an affected diff. We replaced them for big teams, small teams, and individuals building a car in their home garage-and we replaced them at 100% our cost, including shipping anywhere in the world. If you have an affected diff please contact us and we will replace it for you.

Sorry, but for the amount of money they charge for these damn things, they should be billet and made in the USA. There's no excuse for casted parts that cost this much money, with the advanced in CNC machining today

    • @wintersperformanceproducts
      @wintersperformanceproducts 5 месяцев назад +4

We use domestic foundries and forges and manufacture our rears in York, Pennsylvania. Our door is always open to visitors-stop by and we'll show you the process. We operate some of the most advanced CNC machines available, but the amount of time and material cost to machine an intricate center section from billet would be cost prohibitive even for the most well-funded team. The Permanent Mold centers have been independently lab tested to be the strongest production quick change centers on the market.

These dudes are no joke. My family and me have been running them on our sprint cars for decades. I have a feeling they are 2x the cost for the car rear ends vs our sprint car rear ends is probably just supply.
