Just as a disclaimer, I love gear. I love youtube channels that feature gear. But I don't like when my love of gear gets in the way of being productive :)
On point Charlie. Lol. Very good topic and advice. It’s a bit of an annoyance to me as well when after a performance I get questions about my gear. I try to remember that when I was starting out I was probably the same way. It’s good to hear someone with experience tell beginners straight up that “it doesn’t matter”. That in itself is valuable information for the gearhead crowd. I usually answer them with a question : “what gear do you like?” Whatever they answer I say “great. You should use that.” Or in the absence of that use what you have. You tackled this much needed topic as usual with great insight, entertainment, and humor. One of these days perhaps I’ll get up with you and get down your way for a marimba lesson.
Actually I use the word gearhead for a percussionist in my orchestra who cant do anything but building up the instruments or loading them in the truck. This is not meant mean or sth. i just mentioned this because he always laughs about me even tho he cant do shit.Anyway nice video😊🎶

One of the best advice on the internet for everyone. Thank you
Great moves Charlie, keep em up, proud of ya.
Starting with your own marimba 😂 I wish. I started with a bellkit
I started by borrowing other people's synthetic marimbas :)
So glad you’re back! This was excellent. Thank you! I’ll be sharing this with all of my students.

I have nothing today. I'll have something tomorrow because I'll be at school to practice but that's 2 days a week. For 2 and a half hours.
