Just needs a few wider aperture lenses and phase detection AF to be a perfect alternative to full frame. Right now all of the lenses are f2 or darker which negates the depth of field advantages of the larger sensor.
Eh? If you’re on a medium format you’re lucky to get below 2.8. Larger imaging area means higher f stops are usually a given considering the bigger circle you need to cover them. You also get more accentuated shallow depth of field. If you’ve ever used a 5x4 or other large format camera there’s a reason you usually shoot stopped down, what’s in focus wide is practically a sheet of paper thick...
iNerdier is right. Most MF lenses are 3.5 and higher, some Leica S has F2. Hasselblad just announced an f1.9 lens, and it's their fastest medium format lens. Wide open, the DOF is extremely shallow. It would be best to have PDAF for faster autofocus (current MF autofocus is like XT-1 if you remember those days), and IBIS to help minimize the shakes so we can shoot slower shutter speeds with slower than full-frame lenes. Hope IBIS fits on the GFX50R2...
It s not real medium format. You can mount canon lenses full frame with adapters and most of them cover the full sensor. You can use 85 1.2 or 1.4 or 105 1.4 on this gfx and it works very well
Whoever thought that sensor was by Samsung didn't know much about the current state of sensor manufacturing, or just couldn't connect the dots. I will give you a little hint: Sony BSI medium format. Cut from the same die.
This camera has a Trump category digital image sensor. It is HUGE.
Rumor killer! Not a Samsung sensor. Lol.
Yeah, not quite sure how that one started?! There is talk that Samsung have started sensor fabrication again, and given they previously had a 28MP sensor with BSI and copper wiring in the NX1 I guess some people put two and two together and made 5.
Funny how he denies it being a Samsung sensor without mentioning Sony's involvement entirely.. I guess we now know what most of the specs will be for the A7000, at least in term of AF performance and video capabilities, it will be very similar to X-T3.
Not really... it is very very rare that a camera manufacturer will openly say who has manufactured the sensor. Usually you have to wait until someone has take the camera apart to confirm completely.
When they say that the sensor has been designed and developed it usually means that they have worked with a fabricator to produce what they need. Fujifilm have the X-Trans sensor so the filter array on top needs to be different from the off the shelf Bayer array sensor. This would require the machines to apply that filter array in a different pattern, and I don’t know for sure, but the red, green and blue colours of the array may also be slightly different in terms of hue and density for best results. There is a lot more than just buying them off the shelf, which is why they are always keen to state that it is to their design and spec.
Often they won’t comment to either confirm or deny, so it was refreshing to actually hear a manufacturer named, even if it was to deny.
You’re right though, it will be very interesting to see the next Sony AXXXX camera specs
Can you donate that camera to me?..🙄
Sadly I had to give it back. Full test coming soon
