ElkinsDIY.com Presents: Sparky is an electric feather weight fluted plastic boat. If you have some tools and skills I offer build plans here: elkinsdiy.com/...
You really made me want to build one and go out on a lake. The solar panels to charge your battery and a clear umbrella are good suggestions I saw in the comments. Thank you for sharing Paul.
cute little boat bet a solar panel would fit right up front and give you all the power you could want for a whole day or more worth of travel neat little boat for sure
Nice boat paul!I still love the good old captains hat and ivers fish & chips with dip. I have yet to try it but I am going fishing on the sound this year and I will give it a try. Keep building awesome things!
best video yet!! you really are a geat place for boat gazing! its so cool how you can see the dark trough the white hull!!! thanks for the boat ride skippy!!
Super cool man... You could make a detachable top shelf, that would ride in the hull. Once you arrive you zip tie it or it clicks on... But you know all this... 😝
I've been pondering an accordian shaped wedge box, but your suggestion of zip ties made me think velcro would be better. I think that's the answer. A simple flat pack box that joins and attaches with velcro strips. Thanks for the epiphany Wooden Creationz!
+Paul Elkins Sweet! For sure better than zip ties!! And yeah... You need something up there. Wind will flip your plate. Pretty stoked! Love to come see your shop one day. But your too darn far from Missouri! If accordion doesn't work.. Maybe a design that folds flat but then you raise it and then it locks.... do a video if you get one you like. Love too see your creations man! I priced chloroplast the other day. I have watched you for years but wondered about making a chloroplast structure over my truck bed for camping. Your the closest inspiration I got! Lol -Brian
Not long ago I played with that same idea, arcing the panels over the truck bed. I wanted it to be portable and foldable but it turned out too heavy for one person to unfold and attach to the upper bed edge so I tossed the idea, but, if you wanted it permanent it would have worked fine. All you need are either coroplast or plywood ends.
+Paul Elkins I have a soft top on the back of my newer dodge truck bed... The soft top rolls back. The bed is only about 6ft long though. I'm 6'7. So I can't really sleep under the soft top... Unless I drop the tail gate and then use chloroplast to make a bubble over just the tail gate piece to make it longer.... Doors and windows. Soft air mattress... Now you can sleep 2 and make a bunch of fun shelves and stuff... This was why I was at the big box store pricing and dreaming and measuring.... That idea that excites you and you want to drop all projects and go do... Until about half way and get burnt out! lol If I do it... I will shoot a video and share... Again your the only one playing with this stuff so I have been studying past projects... ☺ It was interesting how it will bend easily vertically but not horizontally!! Makes sense just don't remember you saying it. Thanks for all the replies man! Always great getting to chat!! Brian
How seaworthy would you rate this, as I'm interested, but being where I am in the UK, we don't have many lakes in the area, the closest being about 40 miles away..?
You said lake do I guess that was a fresh water lake but I have see salt water lakes near an ocean. Seattle has so many lakes. It looks beautiful and that is a rare time I have seen the sun. Been to Seattle four times for work and never saw the sun.
How thick is the coroplast you use for the boats? I want to find out the cost before I get the plans from you. I like the boat with the game fisher engine.
I use 6mm thick coroplast for all my motor boats, and you have to find a large plastic supplier to find it. Some people use 4mm and add a frame re-enforcement.
I've been contemplating using coroplast to build a canoe. What would you suggest sealing the seams with? I was looking at a few "one sheet" canoe designs and I think its possible. I trying to stay on the cheap side of life. I was thinking some kind of heavy duty duck tape to hold it together and then sealing it with that rubber shit you always see on tv. Any comments or criticisms on this idea?
I have a 'V' hull (pointy) design but it doesn't hold as much weight, so with the battery and trolling motor I resorted to this design, which actually works well.
true, I have also been thinking about a collapsable canoe/boat that involves bars and some sort of waterproof tarp that can be broken down and taken with you anywhere. perhaps, being broken down like how we break down tent poles. what do you think possible?
I don't see why not. I purchased an inflatable kayak several years ago. A bit pricey and you had to dry it completely before storing it, but for just playing around it might be worth playing with the idea.
I got a kick out of the Sail option. True practicality, and so easy to stow when not in use.

Your joie de vivre is a joy to witness.
I think should should invest in a nice CLEAR umbrella!!
Absolutely enjoyed that adventure, especially because your excitement and delight was palpable.😃👍

I think I saw you filming this. I live in TX, but was visiting family. Good job
And a little solar panel on top, maybe at the back. Nice work, pump makes the day.

Omg! You are a genius! Your ideas are cracking me up!!!👍🏻
Nice.
So cool, looks fun!
This is actually cool af!
NICE VIDEO THANKS FRIEND
That was neat! Ever consider a canopy made of solar panels? Would at least keep you out of the sun, and charge bat while parked to eat.
thank you for answering my question though
No problem Jakson
oh, I could have swore that I saw u in Kansas today

Any time Brian. Cheers!
Nice job Paul. I should have ours finished soon. Pics to follow! :{)
you should make a cockpit for it lol, and use vlear plastic for some windows, that would be cool
Admiro muito você amigo, as suas ideias são muito legais! Um abaço
should add a small windmill to extend runtime.
numero uno!!!!
That boat would be awesome at burning man
How is the coroplast bike trailer houseboat coming?
Hey Paul I live in Seattle to
i want that boot too
A little wider and twin electric motors would be cool don't you think?
How seaworthy would you rate this, as I'm interested, but being where I am in the UK, we don't have many lakes in the area, the closest being about 40 miles away..?
do you have to register a boat that small since it has a motor?
Not in my area, but it may be different in other states or countries.
when are you building the plastic lunar orbiter?
What about your plywood boat it's neat.
How would this cope with the sea on calm days?
Also how fast would you say it goes approx...?
What is the range or distance you can travel before the battery is dead
would a small solar panel extend your range and time on the water?
Hey, bit late to the party here but I was wondering what ah size battery to get that 3/4 hour run time?
Cool. Is that fresh water or salt water the part you are in.
You said lake do I guess that was a fresh water lake but I have see salt water lakes near an ocean. Seattle has so many lakes. It looks beautiful and that is a rare time I have seen the sun. Been to Seattle four times for work and never saw the sun.

this is really cool. did you have to register it. (get a license for it)
No, at least in my area I've had no problems with the water police.
where can i get these plastic sheets in germany or in the internet?

ManScoutsofAmerica I think he uses zip ties but personally I would also slap on some flex seal
Next a GPS to show your MPH?
Is the hull the same dimensions as the box boat with the 16" fold in front?
no
Niiiccceee....
:-)
Just a big ass umbrella. Haha
do you think you could post a video on how to build one of these?
I'm hesitant Enzo, because of the leaking issue.
ok thanks anyway
whats his website, i couldn't find it.
Can I buy that from you
What about putting a pointy bow on it?
I have a 'V' hull (pointy) design but it doesn't hold as much weight, so with the battery and trolling motor I resorted to this design, which actually works well.
OK, Thanks.
How about making an upside down umbrella shaped boat. :D
Like a coracle boat? those are neat but not for going anywhere.
true, I have also been thinking about a collapsable canoe/boat that involves bars and some sort of waterproof tarp that can be broken down and taken with you anywhere. perhaps, being broken down like how we break down tent poles. what do you think possible?

cool
please make with roof :)
