It is heavily implied that Captain K and Finkel were a couple. In the finale Captain K even wears a pink triangle - an emblem used by nazis to mark homosexual men in concentration camps - as a medal on his "redesigned suit"

I agree, the whole cast manages to walk this perfect tightrope between the comedy and the drama, and helps the whole movie work perfectly. Brilliant film!

I honestly can't think of a character death in any other movie i've seen that hit me as hard as Rosie's. Absolutely heartbreaking.
I must have seen this movie at least ten times and it still hits like a sledgehammer to the chest every time, even though I know it's coming!

Captain K knew that Rosie was killed, he was rushing to his house to tell him and possibly help hide Jojo and the girl. He was also gay with Freddie if you didn't pick it up lol, I love this fucking movie dude.

It's just an incredibly good film. It certainly sends you on a journey and the writing, cinematography and acting are so well done. I'm glad that when I watched the film originally I didn't know anything about it. I feel that if I did I may have put off from watching it and I would have missed out on an excellent film.
Thanks for the reaction, I enjoyed it.

The clones were played by the twin brothers of the kid who played Jojo.
In case you didn't catch it, Captain K and Freddie were gay, which explains why he did buy into all of the propaganda.

I only recently saw this film and I have to agree with everything you said. I really loved it, the comedy and the serious parts. This film was so much deeper than I imagined it to be, it had me thinking about it afterwards and it's a film that I want to watch again. The boy was great, little Yorky was great, Scarlet Johanssen, the young girl, the German soldier, Captain K, who lied to save the girl and later lied to save Jojo, they were all great. And the way it finished to them dancing to David Bowie's 'Heroes' in German, I loved it. I knew absolutely nothing about this film before watching, I am pleased I didn't because it was such a good surprise. How many German children, or people, would have loved Adolf Hitler as a personal friend during that time? Only in their imagination, through the brainwashing. This film had a good message. I really liked your reaction to it. Take care!😮

War movies don't always need an R rating to get their point across. Being able to reach a wider and younger audience, this film shows kids how to think for themselves, and to not just assume that what you're told and what is going on around you is true or right.

Love this movie. Live how since it's told from the point of view of this indoctrinated child so when they introduce a Jewish girl they make it like a horror movie because it would be to him, that it starts out really colorful and saturated but as he begins to realize the truth of it the color starts to desaturate some, he's losing his rose colored glasses.

Direction Taika gave for Elsa is that she was a popular girl. With lots of friends including Inge. Maybe a bit of a bully. And then all that was taken away. Homework for this character was to watch The Heathers.

"Listen to Hitler" - Professor No Name, 2022
This movie does a smart director thing: we see Rosie's shoes in the top left portion of the screen when she visits him at the pool, then again when she's dancing on the wall. So the third time we see them in the top left corner, we know that's her shoes.

two other "nazi comedies" that just might hit the right emotional targets are the italian "life is beautiful" (1997) and the czech "i served the king of england" (2006). along side "jo jo rabbit" these films form a grand trilogy of anti-fascist cinema with a comedic twist.

What yorkie said about Hitler doing a bunch of horrible things behind everyone's backs is true. Of course there were plenty of atrocities done in plain sight but a lot of the things that he was doing was going on unbeknownst to the citizens. They even made films and propaganda telling people how great the concentration camps were and that they were actually like little communities complete with schools and healthcare and whatever else they had to say to make them sleep easier at night. Truly horrific. They show a bit of this in the movie "boy in the stripped pajamas" another good holocaust movie but by no means a comedy in any way
