Is your horse inconsistent in the contact? Are your hands moving ALL OVER THE PLACE? Is your coach is always yelling “Keep your hands still!!”, but you just can’t seem to find a steady, soft contact?
Today’s video is all about how to stop moving your hands all over the place! I remember watching myself ride and being so embarrassed about how much my hands moved that I set a reminder on my phone to remind myself to keep my hands still before every ride. Busy hands are really common. So, how do you keep your hands from moving all over?
Here are my three tips to keep your hands quiet:
    · Think About Your Seat - If you find that your hands are moving all over, focus on riding from your seat and your center. The main purpose of your seat is to follow and absorb the motion of your horse. Often if you improve your seat, you will improve your hands because you will be more in sync with your horse's movement.
    · Following Elbows - Just like our seat needs to move with the motion of our horse’s back, our elbows/hands need to move with the nod of our horse’s head. You elbows need to bend and straighten in order to follow your horse as you are riding. If your elbows are stiff, you will pull on your horse and it will be very uncomfortable for both of you! In order for it to look like your hands are still, they actually need to follow the motion of your horse's neck.
    · Use Your Fingers & Wrists - If you need to influence your horse and supple them, don’t pull! Instead, focus on using your fingers and wrist to supple your horse.
Hopefully these three tips help you! Let me know in the comments below if you have trouble keeping your hands from moving all over the place.
By the way, click here to check out my 30 Days to Round Challenge, where I will go into depth about how to train your horse to get round! The challenge includes groundwork exercises, rider position tips, LIVE Q&A’s, and more! I’m excited to see you inside the course!

i do have the moving hands problem and your video is SO helpful. Instead of using gimmicks, you go straight to the core of the problem. Will work on my seat, elbows and fingers/wrists. Thank you!

Showing the stiff arms and what it does to the reins was a visual I needed to see to hopefully get the constant connection I strive for.

Enjoyed this video. But I have a question on the free walk, my horse will do free walk but then will suddenly throw his head up and dash forward , and we end up in a mess. Any suggestions, thanks.
