Our hands are our connection to our horse’s mouth, one of the most sensitive parts of their body. The goal should be a constant, soft connection with our reins. My most deeply ingrained habit, piano hands...which I developed as a short, young rider, broke the habit In university ( riding on our Equestrian team) but slipped back into the habit once I didn’t have a coach reminding me “ HANDS!” In lessons... decades later, I’m still trying to correct after 40 years of riding. ( except my current coach calls it “ puppy paws”). It’s amazing how such a seemingly minor equitation detail makes such a huge difference for the horse!

I learned standing hands, thumbs on top
