  • Correct hand positioning and rein aids: Exercises for upright hands
Our hands are our connection to our horse’s mouth, one of the most sensitive parts of their body. The goal should be a constant, soft connection with our reins. Often, we tend to twist our hands, with the result that our aids start to be less effective and subtle. How we can improve our hands while riding, shows Imke Schlömer in this video!
Imke Schlömer is a physical therapist for horse and human. She focuses on the functional movement of riders, and developed with colleagues the principle of “Kastner Motion”, which focuses on the training of the rider’s seat. For more information about Imke click here!

My most deeply ingrained habit, piano hands...which I developed as a short, young rider, broke the habit In university ( riding on our Equestrian team) but slipped back into the habit once I didn’t have a coach reminding me “ HANDS!” In lessons... decades later, I’m still trying to correct after 40 years of riding. ( except my current coach calls it “ puppy paws”). It’s amazing how such a seemingly minor equitation detail makes such a huge difference for the horse!

The Fei removed that from the rule book due to rolkur... Thumbs aren't on top for that

Very creepy narration/translation style.. exclamation without real emotion, especially when he laughs.
