They really put an effort into 2018, but Kills and Ends were either rushed based on the success of 2018, or they were unsure about which direction to take it - balancing between fan service and doing something different.

    • @christianc.christian5025
      @christianc.christian5025 Год назад +8

They were definitely rushed. 2018 was first being kicked around as ‘Returns’ over 5 years before it was released.
Dozens of different scripts were written and DGG and McBride became attached in 2015, I believe.
They spent years making it whereas ‘Kills’ was written and filmed in a matter of months and was in post within 18 months after 2018’s release. Spring of 2020-ish.
It was just delayed… and unfortunately, not reshot.

    • @HellaSlow3.7

Nailed it. They shot themselves in the foot setting release dates for both films in 2019 when they didn’t even have a set story for said movies. They focused too much on how the characters dealt with trauma while trying to have a traditional slasher in the mix and it just felt so sloppy. Don’t get me wrong I had fun with these movies and I loved them for what they are but Jesus the story they tried to tell didn’t just stumble along. It tripped, fell, rolled down a hill and stuck 0 landing. The kills in this trilogy were fantastic, the score, Michael in kills was the absolute best we’ve ever seen, the way he was filmed, the mask. Everything. They nailed so many details but made pacing and story decisions that made no sense in kills and ends

If you're going to kill off Myers like that, make sure he goes out with a bang by ensuring his brutality/presence at the very least is maintained. That character was hugely disrespected. There were more than enough resources to balance the "uniqueness" they were going for and keeping things close to its roots in that final film.

I am not a fan of complete spontaneity in writing either, but these movies always appeared to me like they had the inverse issue: forcing the story to go where the bullet-points take them.
Vince Gilligan and his staff wrote ‘Breaking Bad’ by shooting from the hip; it’s not a bad thing.
The key difference is that Gilligan is a great writer and Gordon Green is better served as a director. I’m not sure what he said that made you think that it was all “made up as they went,” but his first input was about how nothing radically changed.
Having multiple writers kick around alternatives is a normal function of scriptwriting. They envisioned a messy, one-day sequence and changed it to the same, messy, four-year sequence.

I wanted this hack to explain himself, and I got my answer. Incompetence at it's finest. 4 writers and this is the best they could come up with? They're either all talentless hacks, or they intentionally wanted to piss off the fan base. With Ends being the last of their trilogy there wouldn't have been a financial incentive to appease fans as they'd already gotten our money, and would be moving onto to other projects. Considering most of the players involved I'm leaning more towards the latter, and if that's the case then f them! This isn’t how you repay a fan base who's been loyal to this franchise for over 40 years.

The next film should present as a straightforward remake of Season of the Witch at first. But in a second/third act or final scene/after credits scene twist it turns out to be a sequel to 3 and 6, while serving as a true Halloween 9 simultaneously, due to Silver Shamrock Corp. and Cult of Thorn multiversal travel experiments-since both groups are part of a larger, even more mysterious entity whose evil cannot be contained to one world. Then the sequel incorporates all timelines-RZH2 and the new trilogy as well. I know how to do it without it being corny, cheesy, or too heavy on the mythology. Just like with this trilogy, the mythos and mystery will mostly be in the background, merely there to set the stage for great character development and exploration of deeper themes, ultimately evolving into a true anthology franchise with the branding of our favorite holiday... Eventually this sets the stage for a Horror Cinematic Universe.

He was a “shape” of evil. His evil then infected Dr Sartian in 2018, Haddonfield in Kills, and Corey in Ends. Do I believe the marketing team focused too much on Michael and Laurie, absolutely. This timeline was never about Michael and Laurie which was evident in 2018 when they decided to wipe that sibling storyline. I've been thinking for years like this film says evil changes shape it passes to others unlock the darkness in others spreads lol. They explore this in franchise before so this ain't necessarily new but they call more attention to it I think lol. The evil has been passed on before. That's probably what happened to Michael lol. He was maybe normal. Lots of videos I've seen even the Halloween novelization they make it sound like he was a normal kid up to a certain point then the darkness or curse started popping up lol. Evil has always been passed on all the way back to the original novelization lol. I can connect Halloween and Michael to anything. The story if evil it has always changed shape. It can be a kid. A man. A woman. A dog. A doll. A demon. So many horror movies all the same evil. Corey can be nature vs nuture. His life kind of parallels Michael life in rob zombies Halloween with his home life and social life is always chaotic lol. MaKing them vulnerable for the evil to take over. These feelings of rage and anger and jealousy and lots like that is like the path to the darkside. Once you give in to those feelings. Or give in to that voice in your head or devil on your shoulder then you're consumed by evil either instantly or eneverabley lol.

When do we leave homage territory and enter rip-off territory? And again with the “I get why fans don’t like it” - no you don’t. I’ve heard many different criticisms of the movie, from the writing, to its place in the trilogy, to how little connective tissues we have between Kills and Ends, to how the characters don’t seem fully fleshed out, to Lindsey and Hawkins being useless, to how anticlimactic it all feels…it’s not just about Michael’s absence. This is getting presumptuous and it’s all because there’s an inherent disrespect for the sub genre and its fans. It’s all different versions of saying “you guys are too dumb to get it.”

We deserved to see more of Michael…him in the sewer, what he’d been up to the last 4 YEARS/right after Kills, etc. we deserved to not have more questions than answers at the end of this trilogy yet here we are. Kills shouldve ended with Michael grabbing Karen by the throat, attempting to choke the life out of her but not being able to due to massive injuries sustained so he tosses her out his sister’s window. Her vocal chords are crushed from his grab, eye socket, nose and face are fractured from the fall, we don’t know of she lives or dies u til Ends. We then discover she did in Fact live but cannot speak and can only communicate through sign language/written word. We still get this version of Laurie but j only when everyone is watching…otherwise she is still
Vindictive and angry as ever about what Michael did to her daughter. She has a whole cork board dedicated to possible whereabouts of Myers over the last 4 years and has even gone out searching for him with very little-no leads, only rumors of a “disappearer of men”. Movie ends with Michael, Laurie, Karen, Alyson in a standoff. Hawkins lends a hand as well, laurie and Mike both die but the others live on. Use the Corey story for anthology story later.

Ya he (and writers) watched them all and just took bits from everything and put it into a commerciized and heavily overkilled homage in their not so great writing. They didn't follow the original in what made it great though. SUSPENSE and real HORROR. There's nothing truly original in his trilogy. He just rehashed and reverses events of other movies which he cut out of his timeline. It's cheap and too fanboyish in the wrong ways. Well he's made his money so hopefully he fucks off for good. Thanks for making Micheal into Jason and not following any of the things that made Micheal Myers scary.

I think this film’s biggest issue is that it shouldn’t have been the final chapter of this trilogy as well as the concluding film in the Laurie Strode Saga. I think I would have been totally cool with it being called Halloween: A New Beginning and having it marketed accurately after this final installment, but as “Halloween Ends” it just fails to deliver on its expectations. (The expectations built up by the two preceding films and the film’s marketing). And Michael Myers deserved better.

Halloween Ends was a pile of crap wrapped in garbage. I hope Danny McBride, David Gordon Green, Paul Brad Logan & Chris Bernier never touch this franchise again. Definitely not looking forward to his Exorcist project now.
