Fantastic video! We'll be spreading it across our social media channels!
For what? FreeBSD cant transcode. It is working as shining player only.
Chinese users need him!
yes my freds
why would you do that it dont work this is what UI got got a Error: [EPERM] Changing permissions on jail dataset paths is not permitted: /mnt/PLEX/iocage/media this is way harder than windows wow fucked
The first proper video showing step by step. Legend.
Thanks. This is the only video I've found that actually explained everything and didn't forget steps.
Thank you, appreciate it! 🙏
As a complete beginner, I was able to set up a plex server on my TrueNAS server (using your tutorial) using this great guide. Thanks so much!
When adding the explicit ACL for the Plex user, consider doing it Read & Write. That will allow you to do things in Plex like adding optimized versions or deleting media directly.
Good point, something I forgot to mention! Thanks for the tip
thanks for this... i was actually just going to ask about that since i know on the full versions that run in windows it can create optimized versions. wasn't sure if that was something the plug-in could do. Been trying to find the limitations of the plug-in vs the actual version that runs on bare metal.
im happy with read only version - kids have a habbit of deleting everything
@@richsmif You know it! Even old people clicking on things lol
This was HUGE! I was having trouble loading my library into Emby, but your video showed me that it was a permissions issue. Huge props for showing how to locate the process UID. Modified the ACLs and voila!!. Thank you!
Awesome, really glad it helped! 🙏
This is BY FAR the best tutorial ! I spent 4 hours yesterday with no luck. You had me up and going in no time :) Thank you .
Hands down one of the most useful online tutorials I've ever watched! Could not have set up Plex without this. Your final words are funny though; "how to set up Plex in just a couple of clicks". A couple of hundred more like it!! Still, you walked us through it in great detail and a perfect pace. Thank you so much!
Footnote: A "How to install Syncthing" tutorial soon please!
Thank you, appreciate your kind words!
This was exactly what I needed. Thank you for the concise and extremely helpful video.
Thanks Mark!
Just delivered me from the frustration I had in getting my movies to show up on Plex. Thanks man.
Excellent glad I could help!
You are a great teacher and very thorough. Thanks for the step by step instructions. Very easy to follow. You didn't miss a thing. Thanks and keep up the great work. Just to add you don't know how many times I try to follow people on any other tutorials and they miss things. So thanks again. Just really had to comment!!
Thank you very much, appreciate the support!
This is an older video, but the only video I saw that was able to help me get plex running on TrueNAS!
Super helpful video. As a first time TrueNAS user, this was exactly what I needed to get unstuck. Thank you!
Great video, very instructive and easy to follow. Honestly would of given up trying to use TrueNas as a NAS if it weren't for these instructional videos. Thanks.
Hey thanks Joe! Let me know what else you want to see!
Thanks for the brilliant video on the set up, I was missing the Plex user setup part and was causing me a headache. It now works great.
New subscriber from this video. I have just successfully installed and set up TrueNAS on my server build and did a fresh Plex install thanks to your easy to follow tutorials. Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks very much, appreciate it and glad you got it working! 🙏
Thanks this video helped massively, i recently built my truenas system, and was struggling to setup plex, this video is spot on. Thanks
Ah thank you, so glad it helped 🙏
@@EverythingSmartHome Just did emby works the same. thanks
Thanks for this video. Installed TrueNAS for the first time yesterday, planning on accessing it directly from my Oppo UHD player.
No shares found :( Tried every tip from forums, but nothing worked.
After giving up for the night i found this video, and today i started step by step following your instructions.
30 minutes later I have a working share on my test setup, showing on my Oppo :D
Finally Plex is running on my TrueNAS box. Excellent video. Follow him step by step!
Excellent, glad it worked!
The first only only youtuber I have found showing how to do this but also EXPLAINING why you are doing what you do.
10/10. Thankyou.
10:10 This is where I was getting stuck because nobody would explain why I couldn't access the media file! Thankyou so much for heling me on my Linux Journey!
Amazing. I couldn’t figure it out and now its working great. Thanks so much.
Awesome glad to hear it!
such a big help been looking around all day trying to figure this out. Much help indeed
Thank you for the tutorial! This whole setup with TrueNAS is a lot of a better experience than going with the webadmin route.
Your welcome!
Don't know if you'll see this but thank you so much for this! You helped me fix some issues with my server and appreciate this more than you know!
This one helped a ton with mounting the plex media folder and getting permissions set up. Thanks!
Glad you got it working, thanks for watching!
Dont know what I would have done without this video!
Clean, tidy and well presented. Great presentation !!
Thanks Stuart! 🙏
I’d love to see a TrueNas + HomeAssistant combo video
Thank you for this brilliant video on a complex subject, and all this with class, well done sir 😊
Excellent tutorial and also works for version 13. Cheers man.
Just finished my truenas build today and got plex up and running thanks to this video. This seemed way more complicated than it needed to be :/
This is such a great video. I have used it now about 4 times, due to changing up plex server setups. Follow the video and I guarantee you it will work. Simple steps to follow.
Nice one 🙌
Great detailed, easy to follow video. Thank you!
Thank you for your amazing video . I have one mỏe reason to love Truenas/Freenas.
Thank you. Well made and helpful for me as a newbie TrueNAS user.
Thanks Adam, I'm very glad!
Thanks so much! I always thought I had to build another computer to install plex on it!
Love the video. I've installed truenas on an old pc i got from work. Installed plex and almost got my 700GB or so of movies on it. The few 4k movies will play though. Making this old i5 quad core jump up to 97 percent usage at times. Chills around 65-70 it looks like. I'm super pumped. Just need to sort through the tv shows that are showing up individually though.
Great video! My Plex / TruNas Server is up and running and I learned a lot.
Glad you liked it, thanks for your support!
Great video, it was a great help to get mine going. My mistake was I created the share before the dataset and that seems to cause a lot of issues.
Thanks for your easy to follow instructions
Loving this video! Calm and nice tempo and helped me alot :)
Thanks Simon, appreciate it and glad it helped!
Have now used two of your videos to good advantage. Thank you.
One suggestion, since I was watching these as a blueprint for how to update an old FreeNAS and PLEX install. You might add a word or two about what to do if there are are already items in place (e.g. media already in the NAS for PLEX, a PLEX installation (Warden) already in a jail). Sometimes adding new works OK but working around things already present is dicey.
Thanks for the support and thanks for the feedback!
You're fantastic. Joined your community, thank you!
Hey thanks Max!! Appreciate it, you legend! 🙌
Thanks, I am now up and running. Great and concise video.
Thanks Robert, appreciate it!
I had trouble seeing the folders and files, went down the permissions rabbit hole. Turns out, you must map each dataset into the jail, even if they are under the main dataset. All good now, but posting in case anyone else has Movies/TVShows/Music in datasets under the main dataset. So I created folders, chown -R plex:PlexUsers and mapped each sub-dataset (Movies, TVShows, Music) and it worked right away - with these instructions. Thanks!
Thanks mate! Amazing video!
Your explanations are clear. I guess you could be a teacher :) . Thanks for sharing 😀
Thanks my friend!
Really useful and clear - thanks for this.
Thank you so much for this. I have been trying to figure out the shares bit for about a week! Also, nowt wrong with those films! they are awesome :)
Nice one, glad I could help!
Jesus Plex folks, so many non intuitive steps here! Very well explained I don't think I would have ever figured some of those mounting and permission steps out on my own. Many thanks!
A great tutorial. Easy to follow. Thanks
Thanks my friend!
very nice presentation, thank you for making this video!
Thank you, appreciate the support!
Amazing video :) Had to subscribe! Thank you so much and please keep making cool truenas videos. :D
Thank you 🙏 let me know what you want to see!
Thank you for your Video, it helped me out very much, to find out what i've done wrong! Now it worked... Wished i have found your video 48hrs ago! *g*
Best tutorial about plex on RUclips
Thanks for the job
Thanks, glad you liked it!
Straight forward and spot on. Thanks.
Thanks Scott, appreciate it!
great work. Made things easy. Thanks a lot
the best one! Thanks a lot, but it would be also great to notice that datasets are not equal folders. As a novice I didn't know that and spent 4 days trying to make Plex see content inside of datasets
Thank you for the tutorial. That helped a lot.
Great video. It was really helpful.
You're a real chad friend.
Thanks a lot, mate. That was really helpful. Cheers.
Thanks for commenting and watching!
Thx... it was easy under your Tutorial...
When you will make a dataset change the generic to SMB if you want to see it under windows.Permissions are generally used for non-SMB or Generic datasets, so that means any dataset using AFP or NFS shares. SMB datasets for Windows clients will utilize ACLs.
awesome walkthrough, thanks!
Thanks for the support!
Great tutorial and explanation! thx for this!
Thanks, appreciate it!
This was very helpful! Saved me a lot of time fiddling with settings and just get working. Also your background music choice was really nice. It's a small thing, but so many RUclips vids are so annoying with there music. yours had perfect volume and did not distract from the content.
Thank you for the feedback and for watching, appreciate it 🙏
This is a brilliant tut and I am happy to say that my Plex/TrueNAS combo is up and running and has been for a few months now. Unfortunately, my Plex app is due for an upgrade and I cannot find a working tut to help me do this. Would you please do a follow up tut to show newbies how to upgrade the Plex app on TrueNAS? TIA
Very good video guy ! thank you so much to help a french user !
Thanks friend!
@@EverythingSmartHome Please, i want tuto on Nextcloud (config HTTPS) for TrueNas :p
Great tuto ! Thanks a lot !!
Great guide, thanks!
Thank you for watching!
BIG thank's for this awesom video now i know how conf plex server on nas =)
Amazing video. Really helpful.
Thank you Fatih! Appreciate it
Thank you for the video!
Amazing chanel and video !!!
I'm from Latin America (Argentina), I always had issues with Plex and the subtitles ... So I buy a regular android tv for the smart tv, connected to freenas (to the shared folders) directly and use Kodi to watch movies ... also I don't use the CPU processing of the NAS and I can use the android tv also for other stuff like games, youtube, emulators, and more.
Thanks my friend!
Мужик ты лучший! somewhere on the verge of madness. three digits 972 saved my mind =D
Thank. You.
Subscription made sure I saw this. Worth.
Obrigado eu estava a dias tentando configurar e não achei nada de qualidade na internet. Muito obrigado vc me ajudou demais com esse video.
When I try to install Plex it says package failed to install connection reset by peer after a long wait. Not sure whats going on.
EDIT: After several weeks of troubleshooting, I found a fix in a random forum. When installing the plugin, click advanced, then unselect DHCP VNET and NAT and manually enter an IP. Then it will install
Then I followed the rest of the vid. Awesome tutorial you earned yourself a sub :)
Great video! Would it be possible to get a similar tutorial for setting up the home assistant core plugin on TrueNAS?
Thx a lot. Amazing content quality.
Thank you!
Great tutorial, thanks!
Thanks Marcin!!
Awesome sauce, great job
Great job! Thanks!
Thank you!!! Better video that the TrueNAS own video on this. I tried their video first but it didnt work they failed to show you the the Media folder fix.
Thanks a lot, your solve my problem
Thanks - this is a very helpful video, would not have known where to start without this. THANK YOU!!
One question: when you map from the filesystem to /media, is it physically copying the files to this mount point ?? I want to keep all my media in my source filesystem on the truenas. I just looked under the /media folder and see the actual mkv files sitting there ??
Your welcome! No it doesn't copy anything, it's simply a link to the original source me. Think of it kinda like a shortcut in windows
thank you for helping me.
Great video really helped me out. May want to add troubleshooting for Truenas not being able to connect to the plugin server. I had to fix my network settings with the correct nameservers and DNS. Took about 20 minutes of google to figure out. I am a total newb with this stuff.
Thanks appreciate it!
Could you share what you did?
You are awesome. Thank you🙏🏾🙏🏾
Your awesome Danny!!
thanks for this video, its help my time
Please make another video with how to install and setup QBittorrent on TrueNAS. Your videos are fantastic BTW. Good work.
Great tutorial, thanks
Since media files are already compressed, it might make sense to disable compression on the media dataset.
Thank you. You got me up and running again. I have a question. I was installing a new router and my ip address changed. I screwed it all up and had to start over. Is there a better way to do this?
A great informative video.
Thank you my friend!
Nice video!!! Thanks!
Thank you, great video, you help me
