  • On this week's episode Josh goes deep on a common topic that Freeheel Life customers have, "How is the transition to NTN (New Telemark Norm) and what can I expect?" He guides listeners through 5 key steps to transitioning to NTN that will help everyone know what to expect, ways to identify the right gear beforehand, and how to trouble shoot anything that doesn't feel right.
5 Key Steps to Transitioning to NTN:
    1.Identify your current 75mm setup:
    - Boots
    - bindings
    - era of equipment
    - needs for touring or inbounds
    - Pivot points
    2. Identify and understand your style of Telemark skiing
    - Low smoker
    - Modern stand-up
    - I make p-turns
    3. Make a choice in gear that fits criteria 1 & 2
    - Outlaw X
    - Freeride
    - Freedom
    - LYNX
    - Meidjo
    - TTS
    4. Day 1 on your new setup
    - Make some p-turns to get to know the ski, the shape, & feel of the ski
    - Start your Telemark turns as if you have your old gear on with your style, etc If it feels off, start to identify what things are limiting your movement, etc.
    - Get in reps!
    - Make adjustments to the binding to personalize it if possible
    5. Allow some time for the reps to work & continue to get to know your new equipment

thanks for your thoughts and input. I am looking to upgrade my equipment and this is very helpful. I plan on swinging by your shop next time i'm in SLC to go over my options.

Thanks for another informative podcast. Your explanation breaks down the many thing differences between the old gear and new gear. I like to ski all my telemark era skis in a season. 3 pin/leathers. T1/CRB. T1/Axl. TxPro/meidjo/freedom/techtoe hybrids. Each setup skis different but it’s all telemarking fun

Glad it was helpful! I'm the same way with all my setups...love to mix it up and get some variety. Stoked there are others like that out there. Cheers - Madsen

Hey Freeheel Life, just wanted to say thanks for carrying M equipment parts. They are good and frustrating as all hell but I'm going to get them dialed.

Great information - I have never adjusted the pin position - will today to see how it changes things.

Another interesting topic. I just went through this whole deliberation for my new set up. I am transitioning from 12 yr old Scarpa T2x boots (the red ones 😉) and Axels with the slick pin in the first position to a pair of Scarpa TX Pros (bought from you guys) and a set of Lynx bindings with the extra soft plates. The bindings have not arrived yet but I hope I have picked a good set up. Although before the Axels I was skiing on a pair of SuperLoops so I am sure the transition will be about the same...

Right on! Thanks for supporting us first of all - that means the world to us and helps us keep doing all of this. I think that's actually a pretty good cross over setup. LYNX with soft plates should be a big help for those coming from position #1 on 22D stuff, so please let us know how that goes. Happy turns. - Madsen
