Community stands in for family at memorial service for unclaimed veterans

BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) - Two members of the military are now in their final resting place at Beaufort National Cemetery.
Gunner’s Mate Lewis Coy III, U.S. Navy, and Senior Airman Benjamin Hyder III, U.S. Air Force, were interred on May 10. The two men are designated as unclaimed veterans.
“After an extensive search of family members, we were not able to locate any family members,” Berkeley County Coroner Darnell Hartwell said. “Throughout the investigation, they were able to determine that they had served in the military at some point.”
