Another excellent hike along the Mountain Loop Highway. About half of this hike is along a flat gravel road that used to be used to get to the Monte Cristo mining town, which was a really cool stop that I'm glad I got the chance to visit. Be sure to pause at all the sign segments to read about the history of the town. The trail up to Poodle Dog Pass had all of the elevation gain in only a couple miles, so it was a bit more difficult than expected. Silver Lake was gorgeous this morning and has a nice shoreline to rest and have a snack before heading back down.

14.7 miles round trip, with 2,533 feet of elevation gain. Moving time of 5:06.
Located along the Mountain Loop Highway.
Northwest Forest Pass is required for parking.
Shot on iPhone 13 Pro.
thank you, wonderful.
Thanks for the video. Now I know I absolutely need to get up there. One of the shutters has been ripped off of my mom's cabin! The majority of those are still owned by people. Not abandoned!!!
Oh wow, that’s really cool!
Well, done framing at 0.58 and 5.08 and 9.44
Nice! I'm heading to that area in August. Probably only going to Monte Cristo though.
How is the river crossing?
River crossing wasn’t too bad. The water level is low, and there are well placed rocks and logs that can be used to avoid getting wet. There are some cairns that are good points to follow. The path I took was generally straight across with no weaving or diagonals necessary
@@ThePaleHiker I don't know about down there but it's been raining pretty good in Anacortes today. Don't know if that's going to affect the river come this weekend.
I spent a night on Silver Lake last November. Monte Cristo is a weird place.
I don't know if it still does, but the trail used to go beyond Poodle Dog Pass and on to Twin Lakes. It used to be a beautiful hike 40 some years ago.
I believe that trail still exists, but I decided to turn around at Silver Lake. I might have to go back and check out Twin Lakes at some point
Is that a fallen tree, or a felled tree? The world may never know...
One could say Mother Nature felled the tree
Think you could move the camera any faster?
I’ve tried going faster in previous videos, but have found that to result in choppiness and clipping of the video. I’ll keep the speed in mind for future hikes, or maybe even increase to 60 fps.
@@ThePaleHiker that was sarcasm. Try a film class or two
