Thank you for this. I'm an 84-yr-old white woman, and I am so sickened and exhausted by the racism and white supremacists in this country that first broke my heart and made me cry back in the first days of integrating schools. The sight of rows of whites lined up to scream and spit at a little black girl being guarded by National Guards as she walked along the sidewalk to school is seared into memory and on my heart. Those who would do that and worse still live in this country, and Trump spent all of his time at his rallies and in office stirring up that ugly brew of hatred and perceived victimhood. This brilliantly crafted message also made me cry. This time for hope that Marlon and others of his generation will help light the way to a more perfect union with respect and appreciation for the beauty of diversity. But the struggle goes on. May those of good will and good heart grow exponentially toward this goal. Bless you Marlon. May you have a long and successful life of creating and sharing your talent.

God bless you MS. Muller.... Sorry you had to have all that in your heart for what this system has been doing for a long time. I'm glad to know you had the right mind set back then to know the truth. And I'm sorry if you had to receive any negative energy from any of my people who can hold all of that energy which has been passed down for generations. Just enjoy your years you have left in peace knowing its all by design of the creator.

I'm a 62 year old white woman, and I can still remember the stares of my mother's friends when I brought my best friend, Wanda Hunter (a beautiful Black girl with the voice of an Angel!) home with me from school in 6th grade, so we could practice (I played piano). My mother, a horrible racist, was furious with me, demanding that I "make" her leave. I would not do it, but the pure outright racism smacked me in the face that day (along with my mother), and changed my life forever.
Thank you, Marlon, for this song, whose lyrics spoke to my heart in such a clear and defining way. I have been sending it to my sisters, and my sons, my friends - I'm just so gobsmacked (as my English friends say) by your talent and truth. And I am so glad to see others of my generation discovering you, as we need your voices. Thank you. Thank you.

If I could give this post a million thumbs up I would. In 6th grade, you knew there was something not right about the hatred your mother displayed, and it seems like thru all those years you stood your ground in the same thought process. Your post confirms what we all know...racism and hate is taught, and with the right, pliable mind to receive it, it continues to be a problem. Thanks for not being pliable 😎

I once, as a child, asked my parents what the "N" word was at dinner (I was like 6 or 7). I will never forget the responses... My older sister just froze in place, mid bite. My dad said, "It's what stupid people call black people." I said, "Oh," and then asked, "Does that mean Nannie and Pa-Pa (My grandparents) are stupid?" My parents paused and then, after a few moments, they both said, "Yes." I am so sorry your mother did not act like my mother, but I am glad you saw past it and acted on it.

I am a 65 year old white woman (using my husband’s account) who’s sister wanted to go to a birthday party. My mother asked my sister about the little girl who was having the party. My sister told her the little girl’s name and then said “she’s different”. My mother asked how she was different and my sister couldn’t explain it. My mother asked if she was Japanese (we lived in Japan at the time), if she was disabled (did she use a wheelchair?), did she speak a different language? Each time my sister said no. She couldn’t explain it. So the day comes for the party and my sister got all dressed up in her party dress. She was so excited. My mother drove her to her friend’s house. A little girl came running out of the house. She and my sister stood on the sidewalk and hugged each other. They were so excited and happy. A nice story, right? And then my mother, while relaying this story said, “ imagine my surprise when a little black girl with lots of braids came running out of that house and hugged your sister!” That happened back in 1961. That is how racism starts in a household we all thought was not racist at all. We prided ourselves on being a family that accepted everyone no matter what. This young man needs to be recognized for the hard truths that he has made me and many others face. If everyone in his generation is like him, they will change the world for the better. Marlon, thank you. Your words and lyrics speak volumes to your wisdom at such a young age. Its my hope you continue to influence more people into recognizing their own foibles/faults, to look inward, and seek self improvement.

@@toob247 I can name many things we can do, like storm the capital and get off on bail, but I'd rather talk about how a black person can be a white supremacists.
White is an identifier, meaning you have to identify as white. Most people that unknowingly identify as white simply don't know their ethnic background, such as norwegian, swedish, german, spanish (a tricky one for most, but many spanish identify as white, and the spanish where/are some of the worst white supremacists to walk this planet)
White, like black is a class designation, it was created by european aristocrats for various reasons, and later backed by a white supremacists scientist in his nazi style classification of race which is invalid due to his racial bias.
One example is how the democratic party tries to label south americans as brown, when they actually have an ethnic background, mexican, it any other south american or carribean country.
With that being said, people like jesse lee peterson identifies as white all the time, he says black on the outside and white on the inside. although he's pretty ignorant all together.

There exists rappers that have deep political messages but the mainstream hates rappers that are not "vibing". Just like metal had certain bands that were promoted more than others because they wanted to push bands that game more of a party atmosphere, but didn't really promote bands that spoke of drug addiction.

Sounds like this young rapper used an art form to express a truthful observation. I care less whose culture he "appropriated". From him, i see it as a SHARED cross culture of unity and respect and love. Please, we must stop putting labels on TRUTH. Thats how they divide us all. Anyone for truth, just accept the message and for this, praise the messenger because he will influence others still trapped in a 'public lie'.

And to not know his come up over the years and hows hes been saying this shit from the get go makes it more pressing to me.

I'm 62 yrs old and also want to say thank you for telling the absolute truth. Please be careful as it seems those who tell the real truth disappear or die long before they should. Stay safe!! Best song I've heard in SO long. I completely relate to the comment @ Diane Muller - so exhausted by racism and white supremacists in America. The suicide rate continues to rise, homelessness, and pure hatred and STILL no one seems to care enough to help one another. We live in the United States of Narcissism. I am so sick of hatred and the lack of caring and understanding for one another- I still try and do my best for others but man people are so damn cruel to one another. I live alone and have learned to enjoy it. I just do not relate to most people. I hang out with my dog. As the great poet Charles Bukowski said, "It's not that I hate people, I just feel better when they're not around." Thank you for being brave enough to tell it like it is! This needs to go viral. I personally think things are going to get much worse and sadly, that is what it might take to MAKE people start thinking about all you are saying.

Thanks for sharing. I’m 45 years old. Hispanic man. I remember my mom told me once. “NO ME TRIAGAS UNA NEGRA A MI CASA” that means “ don’t ever bring a black girl to my house”. I laugh it off. I dated different woman. I ended up marrying a Asian beautiful woman. My mother did not like it one bit. I told her it’s my choice and my life. I been with my wife 23 years. And we have a 9 year old little boy. When he was born and when my mom stop being a racist. It’s funny and hard to say that. We have one in every family.

First thing is, theirs a different between Hip Hop and Rap. Rap is just music and words that turn into just Entertainment. Hip Hop is so much more than music, it's a culture, an attitude, a movement. Hip Hop has stayed true to what it is, unfortunately society has just labeled anything to do with people of color as Hip Hop. This Kat has a nice message, but he's not alone by far. Stop allowing Society to dictate what is not theirs. ✊🏾
