When Sangah plays Billy Joel songs, I love it 🎹💜…. when Sangah SINGS a Billy Joel song, I’m in heaven! What an incredible treat 😊🎤💜… What a fantastic performance 🔥🎹🔥🎤
A lot of people have covered this song...none better this one. On fire🔥🔥 You'll certainly have that New York State of Mind this week as you and Bubuji hit the streets of NYC. Stay safe and have a good time.😎❤❤👊🐶
I used to listen to Billy Joel constantly back in hs. He was the "cat's meow" in piano and vocals, but what you just did with his song convinced me that there's a new cat in town!!! ;P
You are blossoming before our eyes, I feel lucky to be able to hear you. Reminds me of an old story, one of the old classic singers came as a young woman to Hollywood, and she finally got a chance to be heard. I believe it was Doris Day. They left her alone in a room, and sent in a note to her, telling her the song they wanted to hear; she sang, and another note came in, then another and another. She finally got a bit tired, and when she finally met the exec who would sign her, she asked "Why so many songs?" "Because...my Dear, I knew for a fact, that I will never, ever, get to hear you again--for free" THAT IS HOW I FEEL.
Your voice is similar to Norah Jones's, and I think you'd do a fine job with some of the songs she has also covered, such as her version of "Cold, cold heart." But in any case, I loved this interpretation of "New York State of Mind," which works both vocally and instrumentally. Brava!
I have often asked my self how people feel that have never been to New York when they hear this song? For me it's trafficlights, yellow cabs, subway trains, buses and honking horns. The hustle and bustle of people shopping in the supermarket, little shops and at the kiosk buying a magazine or newspapier. Others heading out to visit someone, the movies or a Broadway show and afterwards to dinner. So many faces of different nationalities, cultures and religions. Busy people, some looking so serios or sad while others are leisurely and happy. Children playing, dancing and singing. Here a cat, there a dog and yes at night one can sometimes even see a rat run across the street towards a garbage container that is to be picked up the next day. Sometimes it smells bad and then there are the beautiful moments of the sunup or sundown when the light magically shines inbetween the skyscrapers. The beautiful trees on Park Avenue, snow covered Central Park and a walk along Riverside drive, looking towards New Jersey. One can even cross paths with a well known personality if one happens to be at right place at the right time. In summer when it is too warm to sleep at night with the windows closed one hears voices from people talking, music in the streets, police cars, firetrucks or an ambulance. Once in a while one can experience seconds and if one is really lucky even minutes of absolute silence. The New York state of mind! ...Yes Sangah, you captured all of this and more with your Cover and beautiful Improvisation!
I live on the other side of the world and I haven’t been to NYC but I love this song so much. It makes me miss home- my family, friends, the simplicity of life and the other ‘usual’ but wonderful experiences I grew up on as a child. It transports my consciousness to that ‘perfect’ kind of world I once believed the world to be, as a child. Such a magnificent piece really!
Wow...I remember this comment. Seems you painted a pretty good picture of life in the Big Apple. As Sangah walks the streets of New York this week, I thought I would re-visit this video. While reading your comment, once again, I had to reflect on what that city used to be, what it has become, and what might be the future. Being from Boston, I'm supposed to hate New York, I guess. But, no, I would so much like to see it re-gain what it once had. It seems the state of NYC is a little sad right now. Here's to hoping for a big come back! A little more of that New York State of mind wouldn't hurt.😎👍
@@stevem8149 ... Thank you Steve. Seems I dreamed a bit loud on the day I wrote the above. On the other hand those were times in which experiences were connected mostly to things we really lived through and not just online. We can't turn the clock back nor forward and it's probably better so. If we could we would need to change all the people involved as well...What an avalanche that would be. 😉However back then Sangahs performance would have been just as exceiting as today for sure.
Simply crazy. For me the most impressive aspect is the way you go walkabout from the music score such a long distance chord-wise, so quickly and effortlessly, and using an apparently different progression each time, but then still manage to return smoothly and seamlessly to the next phrase in the score. Whether you devise the arrangement beforehand, or simply improvise as you go along, either way it's a crazy talent.
I just love your arrangements. You're all over the place, yet you never leave the core of the song. And it's one thing to hear those flourishes you add, but an entirely different thing to deliver on them. I've been playing piano for twice as long as you've been alive, but I wish I was as good as you probably were at 10!
I came because of her beauty and stayed because of her style. The perfect evening that exists in my mind may now include Sangah Noona on the piano. That was fantastic, I really enjoyed that.
I'm not really a big Billy Joel fan, but you have a way of making any song you sing your own Sangah. And this song has a bluesy quality that's just right for your voice, so I'll give you a big thumbs up on this one. Thanks for a great start to my Saturday, have a wonderful week Sangah!
Wow!!! You know what?! I’m NOT a big fan of Billy Joel either!! Haha! But people always request me of his. Sad... happy to hear you enjoyed this Mark! Have an awesome weekend! ❤️👍🏻😉
Driving home this evening I listened to Billy Joel doing NY State of Mind. I remembered you did a version, so I got home and brought up this video. I know Billy Joel would love what I am hearing. This is an amazing cover and to be honest the best cover I have ever heard. Your playing this classic is off the charts! Being Bronx born and bred, living in NY all of my 60 years, you really brought this home for me. Thank you Sangah for sharing your amazing talent and a great library of songs with all of us.
Out of the hundreds of songs you have played , New York State Of Mind Is the one I think you have done the best , even though all of the other songs sound great also ,
