My Whirlpool high efficiency WTW4900BW washer was bought over 9 years ago and still works. My dad doesn’t want to replace it. There is not much problems with it other than that it’s really loud during the spin cycle. It sounds like a bearing went bad on it but it still works. It started making a horrible noise during agitation once but it has since been fixed and has been fine ever since. I don’t like that machine tho. I want it to be replaced with a direct drive or Speed Queen but dad won’t let me.

Has this machine ever been tripped off balance? If is has, is it like the Maytag where it would just stop and want you to redistribute it? Or is it similar to an HE machine that just tries to do it itself.

Honestly not that I can remember. It has wobbled back and forth plenty but never actually gone off balance, so I'm not totally sure.

Partial drain was eliminated long ago for water savings. This cycle indeed is a normal wash with a slow spin. Permanent press isn't too useful anymore. I only use it on bedsheets.

That's really sad, I always thought it was cool. I wonder if my grandma's 2004 Kenmore has it, or if 2004 was after the cutoff. From what I've found, most of the cycles on this washer are the same with very minor differences. Fine with me though- much better than a modern Samsung or something with 30 different cyles, like "wool" or "allergen" or "super clean"...ridiculous.

@@isaac24 The 2004 Kenmore might do the partial drain. If it does, the cycle will be labeled "Permanent Press II" as opposed to "Permanent Press I" which was only a spray rinse. My 2014 SQ has no cool down at all either. All Permanent Press does is force the wash spin to be low speed (my machine has a speed selector).
Even Maytag stopped doing the partial drain toward the end of the 1990s. The cool down became a spray rinse that lasted the entire duration of the wash spin.

@@isaac24I think Permanent Press also adds more water to the tub. There are decent front loaders these days. Aside from Speed Queen or Maytag Commercial (NOT Maytag “Commercial Grade”) most modern top loaders are probably not worth buying.
