I was a volunteer for 4 yrs in 2001 thru 2004 or 2005 . The thing that broke us up then was a problem with the commissioners its always been the commissioners they need to stay the hell out of our business . And I was the Safety officer back then . Now i live in Oregon and still ONALASKA has severe problems . Im the one who brought up there response time back then cause i only lived a block away . And due to the commissioners I quit they don't know how to run a fire station they don't let their members run the fire station they don't let their chief run the fire station if you have a decent chief let it be yet the let him run the department the commissioners need to stay the hell out of it
Why do the Commissioners have anything to do with the fire department. The fire fighters were a team. The Commissioner does not want his family member held accountable. There is no way a fire department with 30% less employees is as efficient as one at full complement. The Commissioners should butt out.
As someone who lives a few miles away I can tell you bit of an update. After the chief and a third of the department left response times fell badly. Mid 2018 more volunteers resigned, taking the station to about 40%. They can no longer run all the equipment needed to fight fires effectively. Shortly after that the fire commissioner who tried to keep the former fire chief employed, resigned saying that the city counsel and the other commissioners were corrupt and he was powerless to stop them. He was replaced by someone I never hear about. Couple months after that they hire a fire chief from Georgia to "fix the the deep rooted problems" in the station. Couple months later new fire chief gets caught drinking and driving and goes on review. He retired a few months ago. Station still needs help to fight fires and to respond to medical emergencies.
@@redbeard4889 Maybe its time to merge with another district or split up the area between district 4, 5 and 8. Its to bad really.. but maybe its time. It sounds like there is to much bad blood to "fix" this problem. which has been going on for a LONG time.
But, common.. Salkum FD has responded to Ony calls for as long as I can remember ( so has district 5 and 4).. I actually ran several calls on Ony's ambulance. Its a small department and they have responded to several Salkum calls as well.
@@fogdelm understood, but you still have to strive to answer your own, although we all know it’s not realistic 100% of the time. From a PR standpoint, that was not the “smartest” (for a lack of better terms) thing to say there. I understand where he is coming from but that can’t be ok to him.
It doesn't make a difference whether it is a large city or a small town, when greedy and egocentric people are put in positions or power over others they will always abuse that power. The operative word there was "ALWAYS" ! Does governor Cuomo of New York give you any clue as to what I mean. That city council will change their minds when the fire department does not respond to their home if it catches fire. This is the second Volunteer Fire Department in Texas which has it people quit because of the decision of the city counsel who know nothing about firefighting. They should start their own volunteer fire department and charge the city for any and every call.
That old man is lieing though his teeth. WTF he says they didn't work so I let them go, WTF who's them, you tried to fire one so the all letf. The chief got fired and the others were volunteers that left because of that. And now he's out sourced the work to most likely other volunteers departments from other town's. Making it a problem for the whole state. Thanks alot. This guy needs to be sued and fired himself, fancy disrespecting a volunteer emergency worker's by saying they don't work or do there job. Shame on you by the look of him he looks like he don't do any work or know at all how to do his job. The fact is this guy has lost a whole department though miss management and now he's forced other's volunteers to do more work that aren't even from his town. Costing the state a loss in man power and resources. Sue him big time
"They weren't operating as a team..." Really?!? Well they all resigned as a team, so what is your next lame excuse going to be?
@Kieran Musa Hey wow, and you both joined RUclips on the same day last month. What an amazing coincidence.
@@M3rVsT4H also notice how both are indian last names lmao

The problem is the head of the department. Incompetence and revenge by officials, that the bottom lines.
I live 15 miles from here... it was an abuse of power. Plain & simple, cut & dry.

The commissioners are supposed to oversee the finances of the Fire department. I would rebel if some elected guy tried to tell me how to run a call.
Here in Germany, there is an old, popular saying: " when the beggar mounts the horseback, he' ll rides it to death"
here in Germnay, I´m 50 Years old, never heard of it...
I lived 3 yrs in Germany und never heard of it
Has this been resolved ? Not sure why it's coming up now in my suggested to see videos.

That’s horrible to just assume that other departments will help cover calls. That’s a horrible politician and “leader”

Kinda sus, not true? Idk the real reason but if the fire chief is let go and the rest also went with him there really is something shaddy happening
I was living across the street from the fire department n yes it was a power struggle the chef is acully my uncle
My dad was the pastor at the church next door to the department from 1965-1970
I will come back if I have a good reason to come back. If you need a chief I'm up for it

That commissioner has the look of a liar
Long story short: Corruption and micromanaging in a nutshell.
LOL teamwork my ass, the commissioner had axe to grind
The only commisioner i would follow is Bill Kastle . He was a great fire chief i worked under
I guess its RUclipss way of Pinching the Bears Butt and Running !! Lets Find Out ??
Im calling myself out to Set the Commisioners House on Fire someday. Lets See how it works
