  • 1087 miles, 146.5 hrs - We passed 1000 miles on the odometer and it's time to give our first-hand thoughts and opinions of the 2018 Honda Pioneer 500. This is video #69 in the Honda Pioneer 500 video series on the Southwest ORV RUclips channel.
    This 2018 Honda Pioneer 500 is wearing SunF Power II tires, which are a major improvement, especially on the rocks and in the rough stuff. The tires are size 26x9-12 at all four corners, mounted up on ITP 5+2 12" Delta steel wheels. Note: If you like the look of the new 26x9-12 SunF tires use discount code "SOUTHWESTORV" to save 5% on your next SunF.com tire purchase!
    We purchased our 2018 Honda Pioneer 500 "Rambo" at North Valley RideNow in Phoenix because they gave us the best out-the-door price in the state, and they didn't play sales games with us. Salesman Ryan Bigham was fantastic to deal with throughout the purchasing experience.

    I love my Pioneer 500 2017 mod . Just installed power steering , windshield,roof, rear window ,and remote winch control. Almost as much fun working on this machine as driving it . I do love watching every video of anything to do with a pioneer 500. Thanks and I will be looking for more in the future .

      @@SouthwestORV I was thinking about checking valve lash, but it's not a quick thing on these. Looks like several hours. It's running fine and I'm pretty easy on mine. I'm just not going to worry about it for now. Have you checked yours?

    I have the 2019 Pioneer Honda 500. I live in North Dakota and use it for snow removal. In summer /fall I ride trails and streets. My wife wants one of her own. A lot of trails require 55” width or less. Which is why I love the 500. I am thinking of the 700-4 and keeping my 500. But I might just buy an additional 500 for my wife.

      Sounds logical to me! These are great little machines. I'm glad you live in a where you can use it as a vehicle - like I do here.

      Southwest ORV it’s like anything regarding driving, if people would watch the road, put their phone down, etc... we’d be safer on the road. It’s why I bought the yellow one. Pretty easy to see. especially on snow, blading, with the lights on 😀

      Hey, again that makes sense. Yellow is going to be more visible. These P500's are just cool.

      Yes, it was great on gas. I never got around to installing the locking front diff, but on the positive side, I never needed it!

    What's the mpg at a happy cruising speed? I have two properties that have 10 miles of dirt road between them and I'm hoping this will be the right work horse for me.

    • @SouthwestORV
      @SouthwestORV  2 года назад +1

      I'm trying to recall, it's been a while since I sold it. But as I recall it was between 25-30mpg for mine when cruising in a relaxed manner.

    Do you find it was more tippy with not having the wider tires in the back thanks

    • @SouthwestORV
      @SouthwestORV  Год назад

      No, because the wheels have more offset to the outside. So even though my ride height went up, the track width went out.

  • @idahoron
    @idahoron 2 года назад +1

    How much wider is the front tires than the back?

    • @SouthwestORV

      7" wide. The ITP Delta 12x7 steel wheel.

  • @robertwalton9028

    Does the bigger tires make the wheel base wider if so by how much?

    • @SouthwestORV
      @SouthwestORV  3 года назад

      Yes, I think this exact setup made it about 1-1.5 wider on each side, or about 2-3" wider total. Thanks for watching!

      Track not wheelbase. Wheelbase is distance between centre of front and rear axle .

    Love my P500...they only thing I don’t like is the heat that comes up though the seat ? Wish there’s was a fix for that.Thanks for sharing your video. Stay safe

    • @SouthwestORV

      I didn't have too much issue with that, but I've heard that the Trigger Shield you can buy from Trigger on the Honda SxS Club online is said to help with the heat and the noise. I never got around to installing one on my machine.

    Question , when in manual mode if you wanna lug around the trails does it automatically down shift ? I liked the 15 model I had b4 the auto feature beacause you could hold a gear w/o auto downshifting, The Talon even in manual mode will hold the gear and not shift upward but it will automatically downshift , thanks

    • @SouthwestORV
      @SouthwestORV  4 года назад +1

      Howdy Adam. So...in my opinion the answer is yes. I always run it manual because I LIKE to shift. I like to be engaged in the drive. So, with my 2018 model, it will never drop automatically below 2nd in manual mode even if you come to a stop. If you are lugging around in 3rd gear, it will automatically drop to 2nd just before you come to a complete stop - which I'm ok with. So yes, when I am lugging along in 3rd gear, unless I come to a stop, it stays in 3rd. But I prefer to run the engine at a happy low/mid rpm generally, so I never even get close unless I'm slowing in to a corner or something like that. Hope this helps.

    • @brucejohnson466
      @brucejohnson466 4 года назад +1

      Adam Newman it will downshift when in manual mode to prevent engine lugging. In manual mode you control both up and down shifts, but it won’t let you lug it down too much in manual.

    • @SouthwestORV
      @SouthwestORV  4 года назад

      That is correct, but it won't drop you below 2nd gear.
