Compliments sir, on an honest and entertaining post. Just had a deal for a 520, swapped in my wee SX Mule. Ordered roof, screen and road legal kit still to be fitted by dealer. I'm 79 now but still going strong. A long way from you here in Scotland. All the best.
I owned a P500 for 5 years and gave it to my son. It had 4000 miles and not one issue. I purchased a 2021 P520 for all the reasons you stated and I chose not to buy a large side by side for all the reasons you stated. I have a 2018 Jeep wrangler rubicon for that kind of riding. Your line of thinking on the p500 was exactly the same as mine except I'm going to keep mine for the weather protection vs a 4 wheeler
Me too. I have over 9000 miles nrver let me down . I have used Razors that habe let me dpwn in back country. Razor would run for about 1 hour then quit. Let it sit for 10 minutes statt and run for an hour and quit. Not overheating. Polaris dealer could not solve problem. Pioneer is easier to get in and out of than Razor and you sit lower in Razor and get dusty. If you value your life go Pioneer.
I just bought a p 500 with 9000 klms on it , being a honda it was a no brainer , no belts works for me , i bought it to flip but ive been using it everyday and suits my old dogs better than quad bike , very simple sxs
We have a 2015 Pioneer 500 it might not go as fast as all the rest of them never let me down I have code back many polaris's back to the parking lot like you said it depends on what you want it for we used cars for work and play and plowing snow and I liked the design of yours and what you've done to it have a good Christmas
I bought my Pioneer 500 about 3 years ago and I love it. I've added so many mods to it the list would fill a book. I've not drilled one hole or cut anything and much of the stuff was bought on the cheap, like a golf cart windshield, car roof rack for the front, pickup truck tool boxes, or homemade stuff from bits and pieces of things I had or found. Use your imagination for what you want and go for it. The only thing that might be a little bit better is the top-end speed, but I see that the 520 should have helped with that. Get yourself a load of fun.
We have a 2015 Pioneer 500 we love it for little trails I've been through stuff that people didn't think I'd ever make it but I have not had any problems and I hate belts you would not like the belt drive if you're out there and it went out on you Honda's or shaft driven can't beat that awesome place that you can ride trails thanks for the video
Actually prefer my 2017 P500 with flat rack. More versatile for changing out my cargo tool box or larger UMAX “pickup bed” as needed. Power steering and locker mods well worth it. Also have a Polaris 570 for more comfort, but the P500 gears excel on downhill engine braking. No issues on either machine. Agree individual use dictates choice.
I ended up selling my P500 for $2k more than I paid for it. Bought a new KLR 650 for commuting and weekend rides. Ended up buying a new 2024 Yamaha Kodiak 450 EPS SE ATV this past January and am loving it. I need to do some comparison videos of the new Kodiak.
Great vid. I just picked up a 520 in camo. Drove 85mi to go pick it up, since it’s still hard finding these units anywhere, and I wanted the camo. Anyway, loud & bumpy ride indeed but using it primarily for utility on our property so I’ll be leaving it mostly stock. Great little machine....and I like watching videos like yours, to see people having fun with these vehicles on the trails. Cheers
I was torn between the 520 and 1000. The 700 size wise would have been perfect but that 3 speed tranny just didn’t cut it for me. I went with the 3 seater 1000 and it is big for sure but the trails in WV where I live are mostly wide enough for machines this size. Didn’t really need a 1000 cc machine but after having it I’m not mad having the extra power in certain situations
@@donschlonski2936thanks for your expertise but this was a video on PRO’s And CONS of owning the 500/520 pioneer😂 thanks for weighing in though and actually I do have a large sack👌🏻
@@kingrider75 again Mr 700 Small Sack, you are in the wrong spot. Did you chime in on the Briggs and Stratton Mini Bike channel too? You'd be a BIG BALL SWINGER there
@@donschlonski2936 while reading through the comments I see that you are severely butt hurt anytime someone says something you don’t like about the smaller pioneer lol. People often watch these videos when trying to make a decision on what unit is right for them!🤣😂🤣. So run along little boy and let the adults talk 😂😂😂
Just saw this because I'm thinking about getting rid of my Mint 2016 Outlander max xt and going to a pioneer 500. I only have went on our 3 mile dirt road and plowed our drive and a nabes drive. get in touch and who know if u still have it we can talk!
I sold it last summer due to having knee surgery and not being able to ride in it since my knees had to be bent so sharply. Sold it for $12k, which is crazy since I paid $10k for it brand new.
Not really a law, but a requirement on many private timber company lands in order to get a permit for OHV use. Used to be a law with the USFS years ago, but I guess they figured most people in the woods these days would just hurt themselves if they had to have an axe with them, lol.
@treyveston7965 I'm in Southern Idaho. I've been riding trails on public land since the late 1970's. I had never heard of it. Your remark about going back to an ATV is interesting. I sold my yamaha big bear 400 when I got my P500. I kept my Honda Recon. I worry about putting the buggy on its side a lot. During hunting season I've been using the Recon. A guy drives a P500. You Ride an ATV.
Just bought a low mile Pioneer 500 and wish Montana was OHV trail friendly as Idaho. When I was a kid near where this was filmed the law was "Shovel, ax and bucket". Maybe run up the Dredge (Laird Park) and see where it was logged years ago and see that it will not look like the end of the trail you were on. My family worked in the timber industry since the 50's near Potlatch. I haven't been up there in years. Fished brookies up Strychnine and the Metzpa in high school.
Was gonna ask why no dog I bought my 500 so my shepherd can ride with me all my buddies not around dog always wants to go sold pair of grizzlys best thing honda u make it back to your truck Polaris complete garbage hsd bunch of them
When you have to dramatize, pretend that you forgot how much you paid for the vehicle, you shouldn't be doing the review. .. that's where I exited your video to make this comment and not look back. Something I taught my children, is that if you don't know how much you paid for something, you never deserved it in the first place.
Just listened to the video in its entirety... Never once heard the drama bs you were claiming. He did however, mention multiple times, what he paid for it

Loved your stories but sorry about your dog. I am considering the 520 Pioneer however none are to be found in Alabama at this time. Thank you !

I’d love one but due to covid there aren’t any available in central Ontario. 🇨🇦👍
I traded a Polaris ranger for my p5 in 2018. I got tired of wondering what was going to go wrong next.

Cool idea to put that bigger rack on the rear.
Did cranking up rhe shock adjustment, did it make it more top heavy?
Certainly would've made it much harsher.
Bald mountain near Inlet NY?
Bald Mountain lookout near Potlatch, Idaho.

Polaris is sort of like General Motors. Everybody claims to love them and will never tell you the truth. That they take all of your money
You left out the biggest negative, you cannot find one for sale
I just bought one, I looked just about everywhere. Found it in Corinth Miss
Polaris 570 has 44hp

At least they are listed in the order of importance ,with the dog first . 😂😂😂
Easy answer. Motor is too small.
Down shift that damn thing
I thought my pioneer was ok at best until
I sold it. Realized how slow, anemic and weak Honda sxs really are after getting a can am maverick.
