There is a lot of techniques you can't achieve by using a bad paper with watercolor
Actually, as an actual artist whose dealing with art supplies, even with skills and expensive watercolor, watercolor art with cheap paper is trashy. Meanwhile, using expensive watercolor paper with cheap water colors is actually practical and no difference with using all expensive stuffs. So yeah the supplies is still important.
No matter how much the water colour costs, your drawings always look expensive and that's a fact 💜💜

@@Yuyu_788paper doesn’t matter. Her drawing hand is super good and this is a watercolour not a acrylic color that she can use a normal paper. If you are an artist then you will understand

@@arianmaejubane5224I've watched her drawing supply Video from 3 years ago and she mentioned for shorter portraits she used Nabii watercoloured paper and bought 300gsm cold-vvein Baohang paper for a bigger drawing. I think she uses sometimes "Arches" watercolor paper and mostly hot pressed (finer surface than cold pressed) but it's pricey.
That's what I thought too! If it's the opposite might be hard to achieve this master piece.. cause bad paper is hard to predict how well they absorb the water and the color it might not blend well.. etc so.. although the skill matter but the equipment also do matter
@@arianmaejubane5224 She mentioned in the caption that she used 300gsm, 100% cotton, hot-pressed Baohong watercolor paper, nearly ~0.4$ /per A4 size sheet.
For anyone wanting to get into watercolours you can cheap out on brushes and paint but quality paper is a must. If you enjoy layering stick to 100% coton paper ( loose sheet paper is cheaper then pads) you can get away with cellulose paper if you want very loose simple paintings because when you try to layer with them the already dried paint can easily be lifted off and mixed in with the new layer.
My recommendation for cellulose paper would be the Canson Montval as for the cotton you can't go wrong with Fabriano artistico.

Yes I saw big difference
As an experienced artist, i’m gonna say it, using cheap materials is way harder than using expensive ones, especially if you’re more advanced. She did a great job with those watercolors.
@@aryapatil3079usually cheaper watercolors are more dull while expensive ones are more vivid i think
I have actually used those exact same watercolors and they’re quite nice. Not like the professional ones but they are vivid and transparent enough and behave as watercolor should. I recommend these for beginners.
For those who are asking for the water-soluble wet-erase blue marker in the beginning of the video: this is the HOLBEIN MAXON PROCOLOR II. It is not available in the US and most other countries. It's mostly found in Spain, and Japan. There's a Spanish shop that has them and ships to the US, but you need a minimum order of $30 to ship. These pens are a couple of bucks each.

Over the years, I've come to find that I adore drawing with cheap marker, purposefully drying some out to shade! It's not to hard like that

WHAT is that blue ink (or chalk, maybe??) that you drew the initial sketch with? Because that's AMAZING, to be able to just wet the entire page and dissolve/remove the undersketching in one fell swoop instead of having to erase an entire page's worth of pencil marks like I have been doing... puts greater wear & tear on the paper. But this is awesome artwork as usual, though - so satisfying to watch!

I was literally thinking the same thing!! I would LOVE to get something like this to save the tooth of the paper!
I would recommend making your sketch on some other paper, then retracing it on watercolor paper. If you don't have a lightbox for that, reverse your sketch sheet and on the backside roughly color in with a pencil (I personally like using cheap colored pencils for that, can get brown, green, violet etc. outlines like that). Reverse the sketch again, attach it to the watercolor sheet with washi tape or something similar and retrace the lines you want to have.

One of the biggest factors in the quality of your art is actually the paper! If you had used printer paper or card stock the watercolor would probably not lift as well. Normally, the differences between high quality and low quality watercolor is the pigment, graininess, and longevity. I really want to see you doing art on like printer paper, or testing the different of how long the expensive vs the cheap could last! Though Im not sure what paper you used so I cannot tell if its your skills or the paper that is making this art so mesmerizing.... maybe its both HAH

isn't printer paper impossible to work with when you're doing watercolor bc no matter your technique, paint, and brush quality, the paper is gonna tear after two wet strokes

She's so beautiful and elegant. I feel like I learned a lot watching this video (I dabble in watercolours now and then, hoping to do more during the summer). Just shows you don't need really expensive equipment (quality of paint is important, but there are a lot of variables - point is, the price doesn't necessarily indicate the quality or whether it will suit any particular artist. There are also mediums at both extremes of the price spectrum that no artist can do anything with due to the stuff being god-awful lol)
