    I got one question, Form DS4194 does not have a place to ask for Apostille or Authentication. How do they know which one we want? Is it because we are sending $20 Check?

      It is $20. Also, the US Department of State updated the DS 4194 last month to a newer version. FYI, the newer version now includes the added verbiage of "We do not return documents FedEx and in multiple envelopes." The old version allowed for Fed Ex shipping, but the new one does not. Unfortunately for me, I already sent all my documents to them before they made the change. So, now I am still awaiting a reply from them by using their 'Contact Us' section regarding what will happen to my documents since Fed Ex is what I used to send everything in 7 weeks ago.

  • @mercurymoon905
    @mercurymoon905 Год назад +2

    Thanks for this excellent video. I had an apostille for my fbi background check report requested back in December, only through a local notary public. It took a total 40 days to get it. The guy said that I got lucky, and that many of his clients have been waiting much longer... up to 3 months. I need another one of these things requested soon, and every notary public I call.. they all mention 8-week to 3 month turnaround time. Paying for a faster option is not an option anymore, because the dept of state doesn't handle these on a first come first serve basis.
    Another viewer of yours left a comment, stating that she got hers in 5 weeks as back as Mar-Apr. Which is very similar to my previous experience, too. Maybe different fed documents are handled differently. But what can you say about the common turnaround time is specifically for FBI background check apostilles nowadays? Is it consistently around below the 8-week mark? I'm just trying to get more info to shape my expectations accordingly. Thanks in advance!

    • @ParvizMalakouti
      @ParvizMalakouti  Год назад +1

      I've spoken to the office of authentications several times. They say they give priority processing only to FBI IdHS reports (ostensibly b/c they tend to be time sensitive for requestors). Beyond that, they've not told me they give priority to any other type of document.
      They also say that apostille requests sent with a tracking number (as opposed to just stamps alone) are processed a bit faster by their office, having to do with how quickly those requests get from their mail room to the office.
      My impression is that your experience was a combination of luck and perhaps quicker than usual processing times right when they had your FBI IdHS. Remember - the processing times fluctuate a lot depending on workflow and their Human Resources. Good luck.

      @mercurymoon905 Год назад +2

      @@ParvizMalakouti Oh, thank you so much for your reply, and finally clarifying this otherwise weird situation. It's good to hear that they indeed prioritize issuing apostilles for FBI background check reports. I understand it may still be longer than desired, nevertheless your explanation makes perfect sense. Believe me, even an 8-week turnaround time would work for me... but most definitely not longer.
      One more question if you don't mind. Just to clarify. Requests with a tracking number.... you mean any services like USPS Priority mail and such, that automatically come with tracking numbers, right? That's what I intend to do. And I'll even spring for an overnight delivery. Thanks a lot for your help!

      True, notarization doesn't apply to Federal documents, so it's confusing that they would mention it! FYI - On the other hand, notarization applies to documents such as POAs, Affidavits, etc. And even so, these documents will typically require a State level Apostille, obtained by sending it to the Secretary of State office of the state that the Notary is commissioned in. And excellent video by attorney Purvis to explain the Federal background check Apostille process! 👍🏽

    Hi. I need a FBI criminal report for Macau that is an APOSTILLE. I sent in the form (ds4194) and received a AUTHENTICATED copy already. The Macau Govt rejected it saying it had to be an Apostille. In your earlier comments you say the US uses the terms 'interchangably' and the ds4194 does not have any specific notice to request an Apostille. So I am confused as to how to request one. Please clarify.... Did you mean to say that you received an APOSTILLE for your FBI background report in 5 weeks or the report itself? By the way, since you mentioned NY.... I assume you're based on NY. So am I. When I requested an apostille for this kind of report... (in December 2022), it took a total of 40 days to get it even though the notary public had said upfront that it might take up to 3 months. He had no reason to lie, because I was even willing to pay extra to get it asap, but he said it's no use, because based on his experience with other clients.... many clients have had to wait that long and even longer to get an apostille for various fed documents. When I got it that in 40 days, he said that I got lucky. Well, now I need to get another fbi background check report + apostille, but every notary public I've spoken with said that it takes 8-weeks or longer... Have you heard anything like that? I'm now inclined to submit a request for an apostille myself as per this video. I'm just concerned about the turnaround time, because these background check reports are only good for 90 days anyway. I've called many notary public offices; so they can't all be talking out of their butt. They are all quick to point out that it's been a problem since covid times. I just don't know how much of a problem it really is. Some still maintain that it might take up to 3 months. 8 weeks is much more close to your previous experience, as well as mine.
