I love this Mule and I doubt most people would see a real difference between K294 & K390 when it comes to performance. One of my favorite mules, and it's probably because I love K390 so much. K294 is almost identical to CPM 10V in composition, while K390 has Cobalt and tungsten, and all 3 steel takes a beautiful patina.
I'm in the exact same boat as you, I love K390 and it's hard to not think of it while using this mule ! K390 and K294 feel the exact same, except K294 semmed a bit harder, and the finish on mine is messed up like on some 69/7° HRC steels when the maker just gives up on that homogenous satin 🤣
Mule team feels really good with the handles and the steel is a steal for what you pay for it, also it came so sharp maybe its becuz of the geometry crazy nuts
I’ve been thinking about getting a mule team for work and this sold me on it. They have a Rex 15 version available now and first thing in the morning, it’ll be ordered. I’m going with the kydex though, so scout carry is possible, and the same black g10 scales. Should be an animal given the characteristics of Rex 15.
Just pulled the trigger on this exact model! Man I can’t wait! I’m going to make a fold over Kydex sheath for it. It will mostly be carried horizontal appendix carry.
Nice!!! I have a couple BBB mule teams I had a custom set of scales made for the one I carry. Awesome blade geometry and outstanding edge retention. I appreciate all your sweet content dude!
I'm sold.Just bought one a few minutes ago.I've checked for chymical composition and it's a lot of good stuff there, including 9% vanadium and 2.45 Carbon, wow.
Ok, Thank You! Patience has paid off! Kev, I am ordering this from Spyderco's website. When I told you about the knife search I wanted to do, got my hand one the knives I thought I was interested in, that starts with S and ends in R. Yes, your thoughts were right: clunky ass block of thick AF steel. No luck with the other two models that I was interested in, but now I see this video and I was totally wanting a Spyderco fixed blade. Dude, this entire package on Spyderco website was $180! Not to mention I also fell in love with and purchased a "sort of" traditional style knife. It's from Case (I know your probably cringing), but love the look and style, its a Copperlock model. Dude, thank you for sharing!
I'm laughing bc I'm always watching your cut tests and I can SEE how fast it's flying through cardboard, rope, everything. Wow. Might have to get one when I get some bills paid down.
Wow! Im impressed, that steel really seems to be a beast. I have 3 of the K390 Spyderco knives from Japan and i just love em all, id be interested to know if this stuff you had there is the next generation version? Was that patina on the blade in your thumbnail pic or was that something you could wipe away? Great video man, best of luck in the new year.
K294 is similar to 10v pretty great stuff and for the pocket sheath maybe try for the aftermarket ones since i got the spyderco ones and it feels pretty big compqred to what the knife is
Yes. It's very similar to k390 with all the things you mentioned but it's actually the bohler version of cpm-10v witch is also similar to k390. I have this exact knife and spyderco definitely ran this steel hard, my guess from sharpening it is that it's at least 65rc but probably 66-67 based on how it skatted across my veneev stones. It produced a very small burr and debured very easily. Holds a edge close to maxamet and 15v. For $95 this is a must have if someone is into edc fixed blades.
if you want super duper slicey try some of mike snodys fixed blades his customs not production models. Sharpest and sliciest grinds iv ever had. His double hollow ground is my fav but his regular performance grinds are awesome too. The boss is probably the best for edc
Can’t wait to see in a folder
Have 2 Para3’s, cpm10v. Basically the same 👍🏻🇺🇸

My god. The way that knife just stepped down on that rope was insane. Like cutting a damn cooked carrot. Awesome.
Like a damn carrot!!
Sal sure knows how to design a knife

That is nuts,..and with the edge retention mindblowing🗡🗡🗡
Let’s gooo! I’ve been waiting for the Dood to get his hands on some mule teams!!
That's crazy! I'm sold, totally bought one!

Was looking for a Spyderco fixed blade... This sold me on the K294...!
Yeah man I’m telling you this stuff is amazing
Spyderco still has these mules in stock.
Halpern scales are really nice 👍🏻
That stuff is insane.

You’ll love it!!
Man just like you and I begin to carry fixed blade, exactly Spyderco Mule in K390, which cuts like K294.
Incredible knife dude!!!
Excellent review!

Nice!! Those things went so fast
Dang. Now I need a mule

@@doodysdaggers Where did you get the scales for Mule?

The Copperlocks are awesome!! I have the wharncliff one.
This video was hilarious! 😂 Insanely sharp knife
Sheeeesh when you were cutting the regular cardboard it looked like paper. Impressive
That looks really good! I wouldn’t mind getting one as i’m still looking for a fixed blade.
Nice that was a Joy to watch!
I love how the mule teams look with scales...RIP to the old shop rag...
Never heard of K294, looked it up and apparently it beats S110 for edge retention, impressive. I wonder how tough it is? Good video, thanks.
I dunno, haven’t done much research yet. Beating s110 though is pretty wild
It’s similar in composition to CPM-10V so should be a lot tougher than S110V.
This is actually the right size and shape cool

🤣🤣🤣🤣 freaking love this man!
We finally got a fixed blade to grab your attention! Hooray 😅
Haha yep it happened!!
You got me in SLIPJOINT so maybe I will get you into fix blades! Here we go down the rabbit hole!!!!!!!
Come with me!!
@@doodysdaggers I love my fixed blades just as much as any of my other blades! It’s how I got started!
It’s basically Bohler’s version of CPM-10V.
Thickness behind the edge thinner than Manix 2? Just curious b/ it looks like a fixed blade manix 2!!
Have you tried the jumpmaster? The guys at spyderco seem to think its their best cutter
No not yet
Yeah...I'm gonna need some K294! Holy $#!+. 🔨👍😁👍🔧
Haha yeah it’s NUTS
How does this compare to K390 is what i want to know lol. Same on the stones, same patina, edge retention, toughness? This has me very curious lol
Yeah I’m not sure! I’d imagine it’s pretty similar. If I end up buying this knife from Richter I’ll be able to carry it more amd find out

Sounds awesome I’ll take a look
RC BLADEWORKS makes micarta scales for the Mule
Good to know
Not hard to talk me into buying another knife. Great video, what song is in the intro?
It’s just a generic copywrite free metal song
How is the corrosion resistance?
Not great, it will patina over time
@@doodysdaggers Do you think this or there aebl
Well…talked me into finding one 🍻
Edit: just bought one on eBay 👍🏼
Why not just get it through spyderco? The sheath scales and blade come out to 179
Awesome!! I’m gonna buy this one from Richter 😁
@@ADSUPINTHIS in retrospect that would have been a great idea.
Wait…is the Mule Team just a fixed blade Tenacious?! 😮
Pretty close!!
It's 10V steel
Mule!
That drummer must have six arms and three feet 🙈
For real!
Better then the Rosie ?
It cuts better, yeah.
