As a kid, Sunday nights (not Saturday as the show mentions) before bedtime and the start of the school week happened at the end credits of Bergerac on that peninsula shot - Bergerac being my parents viewing that night. Will never forget it and still watch episodes today.
Must have been regional I watched on Saturday night and never missed an episode and I now have them all on DVD, great series but not too fond of the very last episode.
This is good for anyone into Bergerac. I wasn’t into it at all when I was younger but now I appreciate the whole series and the characters. It has a good cast and obviously the location sells itself. Dreading what they do to the new version.
(6:15) Poor Pat. So close, and yet so far. And they didn't even try to solve the technical problem..just moved on. Pat must've been pretty peeved. Well, I would've been.
heard somewhere the reason got Bergerac was Trevor Eve did not want to do another series of Shoestring so they had the budget for it but no show the writer said here's an idea and this great series was born
Yeah Trevor Eve wanted to do more theatre after 2 series’s of the popular Shoestring (1979 & 1980). The show’s producer Robert Banks Stewart then created Bergerac which debuted in 1981.
Trevor Eve couldn’t deal with suddenly being a star & the pressures of fame (like being approached in public). So he decided no more Shoestring, the producers obviously called it a day & decided to create a new series swapping Bristol for Jersey, & Bergerac was created.
I remember it as being a very dry and boring detective series as a kid. I bet these days it would be the best crime drama on BBC, there's nothing that appeals to me on right now in that genre despite the plethora of those type. Back then I preferred grittier BBC detective TV shows like 'Shoestring' that strangely as a kid I thought that the main actor was Bob Carolgees from 'Spit The Dog'.
Shoestring was produced by Robert Banks Stewart, who when Trevor Eve decided to quit after just 21 episodes moved the production budget from Bristol to Jersey and created Bergerac as a replacement.
I loved the series. Many famous actors and actresses had parts - being minor or major ones When back then the BBC was at the top of its game A remake is or has been filmed but it won’t be as good as the original
@@davidevans3227 yes they have already shot it earlier this year in Jersey and Devon I read somewhere. It’s a 6 part series with one story line, so not as we would expect it to be.
Show's these days could only dream of 14 Million viewers these days with all The woke rubbish 😩 on Tv these days, good Uk Actor John Nettles he was Also in Boon, Heartbeat, Midsummer Murders
You have to remember there was 5 Channel ma at the time (BBC1, BBC2, ITV, S4C and C4), Cable and Satellite TV was available so old days of TV was good, today there are some gems.
The theme tune will be in my head all day now. Thanks.
Loved Bergerac as a kid, and I still love it now. On a side note, John's impersonation of Charlie Hungerford at 2:27 is wonderful! 😂😂

@@JonTheComputerDoctor Yes, Saturday nights.

great series great content.
One of the many programs I’d sit and watch with my parents
I love Bergerac john nettles and jersey
Was living in London for 4 years and they’d broadcast Bergerac and Midsomer Murders. Was interesting to see him in both shows😊
Johns hard work payed off as I always thought he had great naturalness on screen. Much missed series.
With the national speed limit in Jersey a lively 40mph, I'd say the high speed car chases in Bergerac were absolutely bowel-emptyingly thrilling!
Gran was not the same for some time
The 1947 Triumph roadster was famously slow and the film was actually cranked up to make it appear speedier.
Bergerac was a great series. Liza Goddard's Philippa Vale was a brilliant character too.
Loved Bergarac , it was one of my favourites.
Thank you for keeping in that dead air segment! So funny, that was the way it was sometimes.

Well, I would've been.
Luckily, they got the question off pat.
Love Pat’s T-shirt though!
John Nettles great Uk Actor

NETTLES!!!
Yes if you get stung try rubbing a Dock Leaf on the affected area.
It was a fabulous series. I wish they would put better copies on DVD.
I believe Bergerac was briefly replaced in 1986 by Call Me Mister, which didn't get such good ratings, so Bergerac was brought back.
Charlie Hungerford great character got on my bike and earned it lad
I didn’t know that there’s so much crime on a small island like jersey .
Well their is a lot less murders that on Guadeloupe
More now....
I’m 55 now, I think Mum liked the show , much like Lovejoy, because of the hunky alpha male.
Can't remember watching this show even though I am 53, but I do remember an obscure show called shoestring. I remember John more in Midsummer Murders.

My mum loved Trevor Eve. I don't think her heart fluttered in quite the same way for Bob.

@@robalexander8065great connection you highlight thanks!
They obviously didn't do mix-minus audio back in 1988.
What happened in "that" special? I don't recall.
@BBC Archive from 8:52 the video garbles for ages. Any chance of a reupload please? 🙏

I thought about moving there back in the day, but with all that crime there I decided against it lol
Did you move to Midsomer instead?
I read somewhere John hated driving that car, said it was an old nail!
Pat Kidd
poor pat ☹☹☹
are they making a new version?!

British answer to Hawaii Five O.
Sack the soundman for the echo!
It was the 80s!
Powell looked a right sneaky git
So, when they say "series" in the UK, they mean episodes?
A UK TV series is a group of episodes that's the equivalent of a season in the U.S.
A series is equivalent to a season in the US
Type cast John nettles Nah inspector barnaby 🤣🤣🤣
Johnathan Powell on location? Anything to enjoy a freebie on the BBC gravy train.

Agreed. Happened to catch 5 minutes of stenders in a hotel the other night nearly slit my wrists . If you want to catch a good show get into Industry

What are you on about? Low viewer numbers are because of so many more alternatives, not woke rubbish. Now people are just watching brain rot online.
