JAYSON Wow. I'm literally Indian and I can tell you, Indian food isn't made a specific way. For example biryani is Hyderabad, vs Biryani in Calcutta are completely different. People add different amounts of spices with different substitutes. It's still considered Indian food. Sure, I probably wouldn't put the tomato sauce in, rather actually tomatoes, but those are minor differences that make each dish unique to the chef.
Tikka Masala was invented in England in the 1950's. I have many Indian friends and a few Pakistanis and none of them class Tikka or vindaloo etc as indian cuisine.
JAYSON Doesn't matter where it's made, it has Indian spices and Indian root ingredients used in it to make the dish. Also the name itself derives from Hindi/Urdu origins. By the way, my parents are from india (Calcutta specifically) and I have plenty of friends that are from India and Pakistan as well. That doesn't change anything. Tikka masala can be easily translated to chicken with spices in Hindi. Regardless of where it originates from, the food is Indian, found in India, in Indian restaurants, eaten by Indian people, and is named from from the Indian language of hindi.
Although Tikka Masala has all the flavour, spice and vivid colour of a traditional Indian dish it seems that its history isn’t quite as clean cut as that. There are however a couple of tales that have been told and retold over the years and seem to be the closest that we have to the truth. The invention of Chicken Tikka pieces The small bite sized pieces of Chicken Tikka that we now know so well are said to have been the request of an emperor about 5000 years ago who was terrified of choking on bones. He ordered his Punjabi chefs to cut his chicken off the bone before cooking in the tandoor and so Chicken Tikka was born. Indian food arrives in Britain It wasn’t until the 1950s when many people began emigrating from India to Britain that Indian restaurants began to appear up and down the country and Chicken Tikka became popular in Britain. - See more at: eastzeast.com
This is the closest I've come to restaurant-style tikka masala. It was delicious! I didn't have ginger so I used dried, ground ginger and you couldn't tell the difference. Popped the marinaded chicken in the air fryer for 20 minutes at 160c and then added it to the sauce to cook. Perfection!

If you were to cook this again, next time try and cook the onions a bit longer and rather than using canned tomatoes, make tomato puree at home and let it cook until the oil seperates from the puree. So glad I seen this comment! I made this recipe twice already and I couldn't seem to figure out why it has such a strong tomato taste. Anybody know how I can fix that?? I'm not sure if I should lighten up on the crushed tomato or tomato purée. If I do I do what do I replace it with? I don't want it to come up dry w/ no sauce.
im gonna make something like this and use a 2:1 tomato to cream ratio. this uses like a 3:1 plus extra tomato paste also to be fair i think real tikka is just skewers and no gravy, but this form is more takeout friendly
Thank you for the easy to follow recepie. Few questions : 1. Can I fry the marinated chicken for 2 minutes on each side with some oil in the pan instead of grilling it for 15 minutes ? 2. Isn't 2 teaspoons chili powder A LOT ? (I'll need fire extinguisher in standby for my mouth :O) ) 3. You need to add at least 1/2 tbsp of salt to the sauce.
Food world Actually, no one knows who made chicken tikka, but since it uses Indian spices, it’s technically British Indian Cuisine. Pakistan, Uses Mughlai Cuisine which is Indian- Persian, but is generally considered Indian. Indian cuisine is way to unique therefore Pakistan Cuisine is a branch of Indian cuisine.
For those of you who are saying that they should of use red chilli powder instead of paprika. It’s because this is paprika is for people who don’t like spice so yeah. But I’m bengali and i love my spice
Actually, you must add some more oil in the pan & after adding all ingredients, let it cook until the oil seperates and gets floated from the curry. so that it will taste so good than you think.

Nah, some variations are straight up horrible and shouldn't exist like curry with chocolate , pizza with pineapple, etc etc
THIS tikka masala with soo much Tomato sauce is one of them
It's amazing how you guys find a way to bake everything.
There’s no point in baking it, you can just grill it. My mother has literally never baked it, it’s a waste of time
@@Mr.Badree I didn't mean specifically this one. In almost all their recipes they somehow manage to include baking.
Sujay Sannyamath yeah ig so. Different regions in India also have different cooking methods so it differs from place to place and from group to group
Looks top notch. People are complaining too much tomato. It is up to the cook what is too much or not.
So, cooked this exactly so, and it is totally perfect!!!!!😁

Did you taste Ketchup??
@@Khushi_R9 no, used tomato puree, it blends in. The sugar in that binds the other ingredients.
@@bettyboop-xg6jo ohh greatt
I'm Indian and honestly, I'm not gonna act all butthurt and be like, "This isn't the traditional way of making it and it looks disgusting", cos this actually looks amazing and I'm sure it tastes great too.
Agreed. A study of 70 is "classic" and "authentic" recipes was done, and the only ingredient in all of them was chicken. (you're right, it is delicious)
I'm indian too
Absolutely! Otherwise, start blaming all Indian Food youtubers (Chetna, for instance) for “misrepresenting” Indian cusine using tomato puree, for instance. Christ, I’m in Brazil! Can you tell how far I am from curry leaves, chana dal, (even) hing? Some adaptations are a must!
Make it the traditional way or go home its like making a cocktail virgin by substituting alcohol for soda water and making it look good is the actual point cos that shit tastes of fucking raw tomatoes and paprika
@@alfbarroso say what don't even make indian food if u dont have hing (asafoetida )simple as that its like making a guacamole without avacados
Very nice !! Btw Indians who appreciate the efforts of others make me a proud fellow Indian !
I tried this and my husband said it’s the best he’s ever had!!! Thank you for posting it !!!!
what's this tomato sauce shit in Indian food!! I feel offended! it better be fresh tomatoes pureed! :P
Govind SRaj exactly
Govind SRaj yeah that's a lot of tomatoes for Indian cuisine.
It's actually a british dish
Sani Rose it is not
I'm pretty sure Chiken Tikka Masala was made in the UK
After watching this, I called my delivery service!
They didn't even add salt how could we consider it even Indian food

@@chickencutlet3 The salt is to be added while preparing the gravy to make it more rich despite the fact that you have already added salt before marination directly to the chicken.
I'm trying to fix the spices now added salt it doesn't really taste like anything but tomatoe sauce o.o
This has been my go to recipe for years and its super amazing. Paprika or Kashmiri chilli powder or not. Its amazing and everyone loves it. So thank you t the chef for this recipe.❤
ive currently done 36k steps and had no lunch and this is what youtube recommends me
My evaluation :
10/10
Taste: 20%
Presentation :80%
Delicious. Sure, like many comments are whinging about, it may not be an authentic Indian recipe, but you can't deny your taste! My family just inhaled it!
If it's not authentic, then it's not real. Until you go to an Indian restaurant and try it authentically, then you can't say you've had it. The falsehoods...
Before I watched the video, I immediately came to comments if it's approved by Indians..thanks a lot for saving my time guys! My fellow citizens never fail to disappoint!! JAI HIND!!
No ones probably gonna read this but it comes out WAY too tomatoey if you make it as is. Also, I have several other books with tikka masala recipes and none have the ridiculous amount of random spices in them, they keep it simple with yogurt, tomato and garam masala
Eliana Hassan True. Just watching the amount of tomatoes/purée used here gave me acid reflux.
If you make it exactly how they show in the video all you taste is tomato, "real" tikka masala has more intricate flavors than just tomato
I agree, just finished making it, the tikka was good though.
So glad I seen this comment! I made this recipe twice already and I couldn't seem to figure out why it has such a strong tomato taste. Anybody know how I can fix that?? I'm not sure if I should lighten up on the crushed tomato or tomato purée. If I do I do what do I replace it with? I don't want it to come up dry w/ no sauce.
im gonna make something like this and use a 2:1 tomato to cream ratio. this uses like a 3:1 plus extra tomato paste
also to be fair i think real tikka is just skewers and no gravy, but this form is more takeout friendly
I was looking forward to making this until I arrived at the comments section 😕
It’s probably still good lol just not authentic. Make it if you want who cares if it isn’t “real” Indian food.
There are still tons of videos out there by actual Indian cooks. Do make it! It's delicious 💛
I’m still making it. It looks delicious!! 😋
I just love to read comment on tasty's videos 😂😂😂
Thank you for the easy to follow recepie. Few questions : 1. Can I fry the marinated chicken for 2 minutes on each side with some oil in the pan instead of grilling it for 15 minutes ? 2. Isn't 2 teaspoons chili powder A LOT ? (I'll need fire extinguisher in standby for my mouth :O) ) 3. You need to add at least 1/2 tbsp of salt to the sauce.
Yes to all three questions.
You need 5 tsp of salt
Made it! Tasted fantastic! Did you knkw that this dish was invented in Glasgow?
The best chicken Tikka masala I've ever had in my life was at a hole in the wall corner store in downtown Berkeley california .
The cook actually emptied the whole bottle of tomato sauce
It's tomato sauce not ketchup
It's crushed tomatoes
Love the way they show the cooking over the plat du jour itself
I like the preparation and the background music! Thank you so much for the nice video..simple, fast, beautiful and delicious. 💜💜💜
Duh! This is not how we make ... We don't dump the tomato sauce lol
Paprika in India food ? No no no no. And this does not taste like Indian food
People do not waste your time.
Might not taste indian still can taste good. I mean it's for all the white people out there who cannot handle spice.
@@suhridguha2560 Yes. It's a British version of Indian food.
@HorizonGaming791 You can find it in America and some European countries where many Indians live.
Great no nonsense video. I love this type of video thank you so much I am going to try this tonight x
Chiken tikka masala speciality of Pakistan 💕
british *
@@karmola6545 nope you can Google it
It’s British Indian not Pakistani
@@NoobNoob-ux4wb you are mistaken my friend
Food world Actually, no one knows who made chicken tikka, but since it uses Indian spices, it’s technically British Indian Cuisine. Pakistan, Uses Mughlai Cuisine which is Indian- Persian, but is generally considered Indian. Indian cuisine is way to unique therefore Pakistan Cuisine is a branch of Indian cuisine.
Have you heard the rumour about peanut butter?!
Wouldn't want to spread it 😏
Get out

For those of you who are saying that they should of use red chilli powder instead of paprika. It’s because this is paprika is for people who don’t like spice so yeah. But I’m bengali and i love my spice
Indian way of making this recipe is totally different
That's because it's a British dish
@@adidasnation4677 But it's not. The British hate Indian food anyway
@@adidasnation4677 ok chill ! yes, invented in UK but inspired from India though
Actually, you must add some more oil in the pan & after adding all ingredients, let it cook until the oil seperates and gets floated from the curry. so that it will taste so good than you think.
