Extremely lucky to live in Dasettan's era. Attended his concert in Singapore a couple of weeks ago, he sung 22 songs in 3 hours concert at the age of 72, superb singing by Dasettan, we were on our toes.
I agree with you, John. I have attended his concerts from 1972 onwards. That experience was a bliss. His improvisations was the best I liked in those shows. Very lucky to be his contemporary.
His improvisations are top class.....his sound SINKS with the background music extremely well. This comment was not from me, but from a member of his team. The sruthy and swram from instruments simply dissolves in his sound. Just note this Pakalkinaavin song. Background music sinks so well. It is like a stream....So much of sweetness in " Appozhennariyilla....Annanennariyilla.."..especially at the end..... .only Daasettan can produce such sweetness and sukham.
Dasettan is still very strong in rendition of songs having base notes. If the discovery of G Devarajan about Dasettan was in the higher octaves, the re-discovery of Ravindran about him was in the base notes. Ravindran was very aware of Dasettan that as age advanced, he still had a strong foot-hold in the baser voice than in the higher octaves. In my view, it was Devarajan master who had extracted the golden throat of Dasettan to the maximum.
Ok. Agree. I was only mentioning about the initial phase. Devarajan had used the full throttle of KJ before the advent of Ousepachan and Johnson in songs like Samgamam, samgamam. Incidentally, both these guys were the disciples of Devarajan @@pmpadikkal
