I like watching woodworking vids on YT. Very satisfying seeing someone turn a chunk of wood into a piece of art. Yet your vids stand out, Stephen. Not only is your craftsmanship superior to most, your smooth narration and righteous choice of music make your channel worth subscribing. Keep up the great work. I'm a new fan!
Thank you very much for your awesome comments sir. I find them inspiring. Glad you are enjoying my projects and my channel. I started this format a while back and have gotten very good feedback from it. Some people don't like the music though. LOL!
Another sensational project. As a newbie to turning, I appreciate your tutelage and techniques for dealing with different woods, grains, and situations. Well done, Stephen!
Jon. I am so sorry I did not see this message until today when someone else commented on this video. It is great to hear from you. Did you retire from the Air Force?
Just wanted to thank you for taking the time to make all of these videos. I've learned so much by watching you work. The final products are incredible, as well. Cheers.
Superb video. It was so well explained that it motivated me to do one soon. I'll let you know how it goes. I love your easy laid back way of teaching. Thanks
Very nice bowl, one of the prettiest I've seen I think. I'm just getting into turning, and I love your videos, I have learned so much from watching your channel. Keep up the good work! Thanks for the excellent work in making and editing the videos. Best of RUclips!
Thank you for another great video Stephen. I took down a cedar tree for a friend just before winter. It was about 28 inch diameter. I have many stacks of cedar bowl blanks in my garage right now. Beautiful stuff.
Hey Stephen, I just watched your video on this large cedar bowl. You really turned a beautiful piece! I especially appreciated your monologue; it was quite educational about cedar and it’s peculiar characteristics. I’m a new wood turner, just about three months now. I’m have contracted ALS and am a little over a year in my diagnosis. This has been very therapeutic for me. Thanks for teaching me some things in this video. 🤗
That is absolutely beautiful and your video was very informative. I'm fairly new to turning and have wondered why I never see people turn aromatic cedar. I turned a few cedar ornaments and bottle stoppers for gifts last Christmas and I loved the colors.
Thank you Christina. I am so glad you enjoyed this project. I do turn a lot of Cedar projects because it is very plentiful in my area and I just love the look you get from it. Thank you for commenting and Take care.
thanks for the "blow by blow" narration of turning the bowl. haven't started yet turning but want to watch as many turner/techniques as I can but at 71 yrs old I need to get going but maybe I'm too old toget into this hobby
YORKSHIRE GRIT!!!! I love this stuff and use it all the time. It takes forever to use up a tub of it. I've got two tubs of it in the shop and won't swith to any other similar product. Great bowl bud. Very nice video.
Awesome videos! I started out building custom furniture and saw your videos and have moved into wood turning. On my off days from the station, my wife and I are busy every day filling orders for our products. Just wanted to say thank you for the inspiration and knowledge Iv gotten from you and your videos.
Just found your channel, and as usual, I learned alot. Your jam chuck looks different from others I've seen. Liked the faceplate centering gizmo. I'll make one today. Cedar is one of my favorites but not necessarily for turning. Thanks for an informative video
Beautiful bowl, Stephen. The blank reminds me of the pen pots you turned a year or so back. Almost 11k views in only 7 days...I'm guessing I'm not the only one watching for new videos from you. Take good care, Gord
Thank you Gord. Yeah, I have not produced many videos within the last few months with my work schedule and trying to finish projects for some shows coming up. But I think I am back on track with my channel and I hope you continue to enjoy my projects. Take care.
Thanks, my daughter brought me two nice cedar pieces. I've never turned cedar and I've been delaying trying it, but now after watching and learning from your video, I'm ready. Well, maybe I'll try sharpening the tools (another task that seems to require skills I haven't got yet) thanks again
Thanks for taking the time to make this video and showing your tool skills P.s the Yorkshire grit is a great product I use it all the time it cuts down on sandpaper and dust😀
Nice smooth work at the lathe. Loved the use of a face shield and actual wood screws rather than drywall screws to mount the face plate. Every step done properly is a good work method and ethic to have. My hat is off to you sir!
Great looking bowl Mr Ogle... I keep thinking about making "how to" videos but turners like yourself make it so easy to understand I might as well leave it to the experts
Thank you Glyn. I really appreciate your vote of confidence in my channel. I really enjoy producing the videos and think you would also. Oh yeah, How about that Yorkshire Grit shine. Amazing!!
Enjoyed this video very much. I'm just getting started in woodworking and love the way you narrate what your doing. It helps us newbies understand the process better. Thank you sir!
Hi Stephen, Cracking bowl mate , just beautiful!! I'm a great fan of "yorkshire grit" too brilliant product! Another highly enjoyable video mate! Take care, Bram.
Thank you Bram. I really appreciate it my friend. I think the Yorkshire grit really helps get to the next level of wax finishes. Glad you enjoyed this project.
Awesome video. Been trying to find good info on finishing cedar ( I turn a lot of it ) but the finishes have given me problems. Now they won’t. Thank you. Great info and narrative on the video.
Nice piece of red cedar, out here you would have to take out a second mortgage to get one that size. I do enjoy turning Cedar (when l can get my hands on a piece) because of it's grain and color. Your bowl looks great, thanks for sharing.
Wow! Beautiful bowl. I'm just getting started on turning, you sure made it look easy. LOL We have a lot of Cedar in Central Texas...guess I'm going to have to start practicing.
hello there stephen, great jobe you have done there, very very well done mate , allso this yorkshire grit works very neat as i can see , great vid mate thanks for the share
Hi Steve I see that the speed on your lathe is 2400rpm,some people who have that same lathe think it is to slow. What do you think? How fast a speed should a lathe Go?Peace Anthony
Love working with cedar myself. Gotta be sparing on it though since, even with my powered filter face shield, the smell still leaves my sinuses on fire! Love the color.
Thank you sir. Cedar really has a great aroma but you are right. It can become irritating. I generally use the 3M cartridge masks. They work really well. Can't even smell the cedar while wearing it.
I've turned several of these red cedar bowls and still have lots of blanks ready to turn, you said something about it being brittle, I haven't noticed that, it turns like clay, just find lots of small cracks, and C.A. glue works good on that. I cut my blanks out the same way except I use a pick instead of a nail, but they make beautiful bowls, I only use polishing grit and bee's wax for the finish, so not to cover the cedar smell !
Looks nice. Some day I want to start turning wood. Just wondering if you could do a video on which order and which tool is specific for what part of the process . Also if you could show/explain how you sharpen your tools. Thanks.
Thank you Ben. I will try to pay more attention to mentioning the tools used in my projects. Here is a playlist of my sharpening methods. ruclips.net/p/PLGsnYf7PysCQb5mjvEG2EQvgrZBIs8_65 Hope it helps.
Beautiful piece but more than that good to see you turning again on the tube. Are you still working with smelting? I refer to your videos often as I get into resin casting. That's a lot of fun also. Weather you continue on the tube or not you have helped countless people in turning and making. I have been casting quite a bit and have been accumulating my overage resin, in cups, and am ready to turn them into bottle stoppers . I'm looking up" My way" turning bottle stoppers. Thanks for all the help, Lee
Thank you Lee. I have always enjoyed producing my videos and hopefully always will. Glad you still enjoy watching them also. Your casting seems to be going great. I really enjoy seeing the end results of good casting. Hope you enjoyed Bottle Stoppers My Way. Take care my good friend.
I LOVE the way Cedar Smells! GREAT Video Stephen (as always!). My problem with Turning Cedar is, I get too ambitious! I have had EVERY Cedar Bowl break at the Tenon and fly off the Lathe! My next one, I'm gonna do better! I'm a Big Fan Stephen and appreciate what you do Brother! Have A Super Week!.....Gus

Also...nice to see good work being done on a fairly basic lathe. One does not need a $4500 PM 3520C to make basic bowls....much as I would like to own one.
GREAT video ! I LOVE cedar ! You did a great video and I'll try to duplicate your project !! I just went and BOUGHT some pine planks today. On our way home, my wife spotted some fresh cut wood in a guys yard. We said "hey" all he can do is say get lost right !!" Turns out the guy GAVE US all we wanted and said come back for the cedar if you want it !! It's FULL of knots and branches and should produce some BEAUTIFUL turnings !! Then I come on YOU TUBE and see your video ..... How about that !! Thanks. I'll be loading my chainsaw and heading back there REAL soon !! Stay safe !!
Hi Stephen, I have enjoyed your videos. I have a question? I liked your finish on your cedar bowl but my question is How about poly urethane finish? I have had trouble with bothy finish. Another beautiful bowl.
I like your voice over videos. Very well explained, without distracting background noises.
Thank you sir. I did not really know how the format change would go but people seem to like it better than the machine noise. Thank you.

Looks nice. Some day I want to start turning wood. Just wondering if you could do a video on which order and which tool is specific for what part of the process . Also if you could show/explain how you sharpen your tools. Thanks.

Beautiful piece but more than that good to see you turning again on the tube.

Thank you sir. I used to have the same problems. You are correct. Just slow down, keep your tools like razors and be patient. I am really glad that you are enjoying my channel and thank you for your inspiring comments.

Thank you David. Glad you enjoyed this project.
Hi Stephen,
I have enjoyed your videos. I have a question? I liked your finish on your cedar bowl but my question is How about poly urethane finish? I have had trouble with bothy finish. I haven't tried the Yorkshire grit but it sure looks nice. Any suggestions on sealing cedar and pine wood would be much appreciated. thanks paul
I like cedar as well. Haven't tried Yorkshire grit.
Thank you sir. I find the Yorkshire grit to really help with the surface preparation before waxing. It actually works great!
