    It's amazing how many of these Toyota campers are still running around. A testament to the durability of the 22R and the transmission behind it. That's a lot of weight to lug around.

    I bought a 17’ Sunrader with only 52k miles about 7 years ago for $1200. It had the rare 5 speed factory manual. I replaced the fake duallys with one ton duallys. Gutted the interior. Desmogged it and replaced factory carb with a new Weber. Unbelievable how much more power it had! Repainted the exterior myself and then had to sell it before finishing the interior. Got $10,000 for it with the interior unfinished but was really sad to have to let it go.

    • @ChuckCassadyYT
      @ChuckCassadyYT  Год назад +3

      Been thinking about a weber for this-- the factory carb needs a rebuild

    • @joeblow1942
      @joeblow1942 Год назад +2

      @@ChuckCassadyYT I was faced with doing a rebuild too. I did a lot of research before deciding to rebuild or desmog and replace with the Weber carb. I am NOT a mechanic but there’s a forum thread that step by step walks you through the process. Seriously, I was blown away at how much more power my Sunrader had, and especially going up hills. If you desmog, (which you should cuz all that smog crap doesn’t work anyway), it’s unreal how spacious it will be under the hood (like working on a 60’s American 6 cylinder with all the room you’ll have!). Also, I sold the original Aisin carb plus a big box of the old smog crap on Craigslist and it just about paid for all the new parts. If I ever buy another Toyota 22R, would I do it again? Absolutely!

    My favorite travelling memories as a kids are from laying in the over the cab bed of our motorhome. It felt like we were flying. Your Toyota camper actually has everything that everyone is trying to put in a van but can't...bath, fixed bed and the u-shaped seating.
    Also...paint the rear wheels black like the front.

    • @ChuckCassadyYT
      @ChuckCassadyYT  Год назад +1

      You are so right. This economical, mini cruiser has everything people are trying to put in a van, but can't. The shower stall is small, so I sit on a plastic stool and that works just fine. The best part is full standing room to walk around and and use the full kitchen that produdes some really great meals. Sitting in most vans in the rain is just miserable and cramped. Sitting in the u-shaped dinette with an espresso drink in the morning with the full view all around is just plain heaven. Enjoy every mile and every smile.

    Last month I bought a 1989 Toyota dolphin. It is a six-cylinder automatic. The inside was redone the engine was rebuilt 2006. All the paperwork was with it the manuals everything I’ve checked so far works. It’s getting the brakes done now. It passed the safety inspection, It’s not perfect condition, but what is at 35 years old? I don’t have the dinette in the back. Mines all bathroom back there. But the one piece shower, which is great. It’s a different manufacturer, if it doesn’t work out for me, I can sell it. I had to make up my mind because there were people waiting to see it. But I knew I could resell it if I decided I didn’t want to travel in it. I really wanted a van that was somewhat built out, but then I saw this on craigslist. Been a long time since I drove my late husband’s truck, which is the closest I’ve come to driving a 20 foot vehicle and I purchased a back up camera. I’ll go to a parking lot and get used to it.😅 it’s so cute and I love the windows in them, they’re big. The closet behind the toilet is huge. And most important it’s got the 1 ton Dooley axle. I’d like to find someone like you to make some changes in mine. Like the lagun table mount, that’s something I wanted in a van. I gave up the idea of a van two years ago, then I seen this Dolphin on craigslist, then went 50 miles to look at it.

      That is too true. Too many of these little classics are subjected to millenial modernization, which means painting everything soulless white and ripping out original features. My homey, charming '84 mini motorhome [$4,000] came with some water damage, but it was love at first sight and well worth the effort to repair it. Keep looking !
