  • Caution--Turn off the gas before you work on any gas appliance! I’ll show you how to loosen and remove a gas line on a dryer with 2 wrenches so the gas fitting on the dryer doesn't loosen or move. When you're removing a gas line from a gas appliance, it's always important to use 2 wrenches, that oppose each other, as you loosen the gas line, or the gas fitting on the gas appliance will loosen and cause an unexpected gas leak.

    People commenting as if there isn't a warning at the beginning saying to shut off the gas. Thank you for your demonstration!

    Thank you for getting right to the point and explaining it so well. Also, appreciate the disclaimer. Going to make sure I shut off gas supply at the water heater.

    Thank you Ladies! your demonstration in which way to push/pull your hands were incredibly helpful! After trying the mens videos that never gave those specific clear instructions. I was just about to give up and call the plumber, by the way would've cost me, you saved me in a real pinch! Salute to the women!

    Thank you I remembered righty toddy lefty Lucy, but when you’re doing it from the side which one’s writing in which ones Lucy!?! Thank you so much for your help in this video because it helped me unhook a dryer to get ready for my new dryer. I’m 75 years old and I’m still figuring out all this stuff.

      Hi Kathy. It's not the age; it's the mileage! :) The wrench in your left hand is held in place or given a very slight push to the right The wrench in your right hand is given force and pushed to the left, so you can loosen ("lefty loosey") the fitting. I hope this helps.

    Will there be some gas leakage from the part of the pipe after the shutoff?

    What do you do with the gas line that’s open now?

    • @frugaldiy1
      @frugaldiy1  Год назад +1

      I put a small piece of paper towel in the fitting or cover it with a plastic bag with a rubber band around it.

  • @Runitback00

    What if I move the small fitting just a little, by accident? I got the big one off

    • @frugaldiy1
      @frugaldiy1  2 года назад

      It may cause a gas leak in the appliance, Robert. But, if it does, you can take the appliance apart and fix it.

    • @Runitback00
      @Runitback00 2 года назад

      How is that? The small fitting is tight

      How would it cause a gas leak in the appliance? The small fitting is on tight

    • @frugaldiy1
      @frugaldiy1  2 года назад

      If you moved (that means "loosened") the gas pipe/fitting that goes inside the appliance, you can cause a leak inside of the appliance. That's why you put one wrench on the appliance gas pipe/fitting to keep it from turning, while you loosen the fitting on the gas line.

      Maybe I'm misunderstanding you. Let's clarify what you mean by "small fitting." Is that on the appliance side or gas line?

    Is the right hand

    Make sure you turn your GAS line OFF first...

  • @scottdavis8056

    But what if it doesn’t break free. Thanks for letting us know that. Not all come easy like that.

    • @frugaldiy1
      @frugaldiy1  Год назад +1

      Scott, what if what doesn't break free--the fitting on the gas line? If the fitting on the gas line doesn't loosen, I use a "cheater bar" (a piece of metal pipe) to get some leverage to turn the fitting. Place the cheater bar over the wrench on the gas line fitting and turn the wrench. Or, I'd have my sister hold the wrench on the gas dryer fitting firmly, while I held the wrench on the gas line fitting and "shock" (or strike) the wrench I'm holding with a hammer to get movement on the fitting. The shock will likely turn the wrench to loosen the fitting. Remember--GAS OFF. ;)
