I’ve been watching ton of your videos lately as I prepare for my Mister Pi delivery, and the combo of all of your Mister content plus that opening song has me knowing you as Mr Mister now. Thanks for helping fix my broken wings. Your channel is awesome.
I bought the QMTECH Mister FPGA with soldered RAM and what a JOY! Also, I bought the analog ioboard from amazon and voilà. Everything's works right away, almost like plug and play. 😊
Got my Taki clone "Mister Pi" 5 days ago ... ... my wife and I are _loving_ it! 💕 It's so cool being able to run 2 Gameboy cores right next to each other on the big screen, and play against each other. Fuuuuun!
The 2P cores are awesome and a fun “party trick” of MiSTer. Granted it’s a lot of underlying code to make it work but it works so well it feels like that “party trick” status
@hootyhaha - Google "retroremake". They are currently sold out, but a new batch of 4,000 units is currently in QA. There is no game software pre-installed, but as soon as you connect it to your WiFi, run a script called "update_all" and it will go and fetch a bunch of stuff. The default settings for "update_all" need to be changed to "yes/enable" for fetching the good stuff. Then you can go to websites about "abandonware" to get even more good stuff. Remember, in many cases you need to already possess the original ganes for it to be legal to download all that good stuff ... so ... I'm sure that you will follow that rule just like everyone else does ...
Appreciate the detailed guide. I've been subbed for a minute and this simple setup explainer was exactly what I was looking for (preordered a SuperStation yesterday.) Assume things will be a bit different in places but I just wanted to get a general idea of what a setup entails.
Wonderful overview, thanks for getting it up! Definitely getting the incoming MisterPi (the Taki clone). And cant wait to setup an arcade cab oriented project!
@@VideoGameEsoterica Even though i had like 4 years and many hours of fun already, i feel ripped of that i paid more for mister back then! Where do i gets muh monnies back?! Is that winning?! 😆 (and did Robby really create the wallpapers? daaang that's not half bad that is!)
Got my Taki clone ordered yesterday. Gonna order a JAMMA adapter in the meantime while I'm waiting for it...I guess I should get a SNAC adapter or two as well?
I did a setup yesterday and noticed that the arcade game downloader in update all script errors on about 400 of them. It looks like it grabs them from the internet archive and for whatever reason, requires a login for these.
I was lucky enough to snag a mister pi. Can't wait for it to show up. I've seen that it's possible to run games from a server using something like retronas. Ever used that? Would be nice not to have to worry about filling up an sd card.
A-Taki of the clones 😜😁 thanks for this, snagged Taki's mega pack, this will be my first Mister though a buddy brings his multisystem over occasionally. I can't wait, I've spent as much on peripherals as the Mister (oops) but it's still a bargain!
@@VideoGameEsoterica it's thanks to you I've ordered the 8bitdo NeoGeo controller. I also got the Saturn style M30, SNAC and PSX controllers and I'm eyeing a Guncon - the GC2 is usb and can be used with more cores right? (I have a CRT)
Hey perhaps you might want to cover this: Internet Archive lost its appeal against book publishers - physical books moved to digital formats. While it doesn't have direct implications to gaming, I'm sure you're familiar enough with copyright law and can see how gaming companies might translate this when it comes to their copyrighted works as well.
Hi, I actually do have a question that you might be able to answer. So I’m new to FPGA and the one that I got was the M3 marsupial multi system rebuild from Koala (awesome Guy by the way). I noticed when I tried to add in certain rooms for example Genesis and Sega CD games that loads the mega driver mega city core instead of the Genesis core. Same goes with Sega 32X, it loads the super 32. For NES and super NES, the family and superfamily con Coors load. Not a big deal, but I kind of want the course that I grew up with to launch the games that I have. Anyway, to fix that? Your health is much much appreciated
It’s not so much the Marsupial as it is naming conventions on MiSTer itself. There is a Genesis folder but the most modern core is “Mega Drive”, so that’s where you’d put your games. It’s just a bit of a vestigial folder convention for older cores
@@VideoGameEsoterica gotcha, those cores are based on the EU/JP systems. So the folders that the US ones are safe to delete?! If they’re useless then why keep’em
Since the author uses the N64 core as an example that you have to setup your controller/joystick/gamepad in each core individually: while this is of course true, I think the N64 core is not the very best example. Or, in other words: For the N64 core: Wouldn't it be better to use a SNAC adapter and 'real' N64 gamepads (which will have 6 buttons) instead of some 'normal' gamepad with only 4 buttons plus some shoulder buttons? (which will work fine e.g. with Arcade games, Commodore 64 games, NeoGeo games etc.). Just my thoughts. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Hi! Thanks for providing this guide! A friend asked me to update their mame cabinet that was built years ago. Its running on a regular PC and using an ipac2 for emulating the controls. Im sure i'm not going to be able to use the ipac2. Do you have a controller encoder that you suggest that's compatible with mister? I assume USB is the main requirement right? Thanks
After many months of procrastinating I’ve finally followed this video to set up my poor Mister which has been collecting dust. Everything’s gone smoothly, except that once I’ve finished updating the arcade games don’t work. They’re still listed in the menu but I get an error message when trying to boot them. Looking around this seems to not be an isolated incident. Any ideas what’s going on?
I’m looking at building a retronas using a pi 5 so don’t need a large capacity sd card, what is the minimum size sd card needed in this case and does the speed of the sd card matter? I managed to order one of the Taki Udon mega packs, had thought about getting the de-10 nano for several years(before the price hikes started during covid) but never got around to it
For Mister Pi I clicked buy now at exactly 8 when it became available but my screen hung on "you are waiting in line" and wasn't able to order. Did that happen to anyone else?

Happy to do it. I made sure this was ready to go for everyone getting new setups

Both guncons can be used with all cores that support it but GunCon 2 is the better choice due to usb / more buttons
Send in the clones! 🤩
MiSTer is gonna get a lot bigger in the next year
Managed to get a mister earlier this morning so I’m ready for that Mister life. As a Mac user I need to look into setup though.
There are Mac SD card flashers too listed on the Mr fusion GitHub site. Thats the only difference

Sounds like the server they pull from was down yesterday so it failed to grab the files. Run update again today :)
Maybe I missed it but is setting up wifi missing? Seems like we go from installing MiSTer fusion right to update all with an internet connection.
I use / recommend Ethernet for the first setup. Much more reliable than WiFi when you have EVERYTHING coming down at once
how come the links arent in the description? :/ i dont see em

32GB will suffice for minimums. Speed wise just get your average card and you’ll be fine

Not sure. Would have to check the specs

can the mister read off a shared network drive?
Yes you can use a NAS. You can use an SD card as well as a local HDD
Ok but I need whatever that PS1 looking thing is 👀

From what he Tweeted he was sold out in under 9 minutes so I'm sure the site was hammered.
Seems like the site got overloaded
Yes it was very quick
Same here, got to the order page started to put my info in, before I finished my first name the page refreshed and said it was sold out. Bummer!
Hopefully the next batches will be larger runs
Has anyone tested if the clone boards have the same hdmi CEC issues as the DE10 nano?
Haven’t checked myself
Get a tiny flat head screwdriver and remove the CEC pin from an hdmi cable. That's what I did and life became much easier.
Also doable
theres no links. in the vid ya said youd post the links
Which link? Help me refresh my memory
