Sega Saturn and Neo-Geo's existence got me curious. This channel put me on to MiSTer. Taki's cheaper clone made me buy one. Only three reasons I got into it. God bless.
Yea man, your channel is the the best for MiSTer. When I found it mid-year I was noticing you put up a lot of videos and continue to do so. My exposure to consoles as a kid was only 2600/NES/SNES/64/PS1, etc.. Your channel has opened my eyes to all of the other great platforms and a lot of arcade games I simply never knew about. Thanks for all the efforts for this community! If only I learned about MiSTer 5 years ago! Oh well, never too late.
2024 has been one of the most exciting years for MiSTer so far. Still holding out for Virtual Boy and PC-FX cores, plus some other arcade hardware from Konami, Sega and others. But what we have already is nothing short of spectacular!
Retro gaming has come along way. About 10 years ago everyone was still buying og hardware, upscalers weren't really a thing other than the Framemeister, we didn't have all of these video cable options, mods, ODEs, flash carts, the MiSTer, controllers, information on CRTs, memory cards and other accessories for old consoles.
My 2024 highlight was discovering your channel by way of "Mr Sujano" and never looked back ever since. I have always known about the Mister and FPGA gaming but, felt that it was an elitist hobby due to the high entry barrier cost, no diss to early adapters though. Now thanks to the clone consoles I managed to get myself one and can hardly wait to experience it myself. Mad props to you VGE, PCN and Lou's Retro Sauce for making me fall in love with FPGA gaming. Happy holidays and happy gaming everyone!
absolute Masterpiece of a system, constant updates, strong community, mostly plug and play, future cores being worked on, the mister was worth it for Saturn alone. Hopefully we get 3DO in 2025 finally
Finished Panzer Dragoon Saga last night on my Mister Pi... Had zero issues... My main controller I use for Saturn and N64 is my Xbox Hori Fighting Commander OCTA... I found it works perfectlyfor Saturn and N64 because of the button layout and the octagonal gate on the analog for N64 games... Its worth having just for those 2 systems... But I also use my 8bitdo m30 for Saturn as well...
So happy to see footage of Ninja Baseball Batman. I actually haven't had a chance to play a mister yet. I'm happy to be messing with games on steamdeck (planning on using your pc-fx video soon). I dont have a fav 32x game, but I do love how kolibri and tempo look. Man, Neo Turf Masters is the best ngpc game . Idk where you're located, but I'd share my cd-i if you were closer. Hope you have a good holidays, VGE, love the channel for video game updates, even if I dont understand it all!
I love MISTer because I get what I always wanted, the arcade games at home (and now without the bulky PCBs). Most ports have a problem at least so it's good to have the genuine thing.
The Analogue Pocket and Mister are my best retro gaming purchases ever. Looking forward to 3DO and Virtual Boy Mister cores and the portable Retro Remake devices.
I'm watching this great vídeo and waiting for my misterpi to arrived... but as long as I live in Brazil I have to wait for custom clearences for how long I don't know ... and pray to not be taxed a kidney... lets hope for a xmas christmas
Thanks for all the work you've put into the channel and your videos have been quite helpful as I've been setting up my MiSTerPi. The system has pretty much given me most of everything I've wanted on FPGA. Looking forward to the Jaguar and CD-I cores, but there's only one I'd really love to see is a 3DO core. Just so I can relive the high quality of Shadow: War of Succession. jk lol. Still enjoy Escape from Monster Manor and The Horde after all these years.
Do you think we will ever see dual ram builds available for people that want to stick with the analog board? That's my only gripe so far with the Mister experience after getting into it, is realizing I have to downgrade my video to get dual ram, when really It would be fantastic to have both.
@@VideoGameEsoterica Bummer, but I guess it does make sense from a manufacturing standpoint. What is the added lag if one does go direct video out, into say an RGBs consumer tv setup? Things are so nice and snappy right now, I'd hate to make it not.
I play Leo on the MiSTer and Pocket all the time! Still plan to get an arcade PCB for it, but so far they're pretty ridiculous in price. Just hoping to get lucky some day. Maybe on the Japan trip. :D Nice video!
@@VideoGameEsoterica No they are not. Just got an F3 + Landmaker and a Strider CPS-1 too, so I'm kind of not supposed to be shopping for these right now. :D
Haha I hope it does! I’ve still got more production time before Jan 1. Although from Xmas Eve one the only thing that will get me into the studio is epic core release or updated. The BIG stuff. I feel like Jotego is gonna burn me haha
I want the IGS PGM to be playable. It has a good set of CAVE games, like Dodonpachi Dai-Ou-Jou, and of course Martial Masters. I also wish for Taki to have a JAMMA adapter for the Mister Pi just in case I have an arcade cabinet one day
The Saturn core has been great, especially paired with the recent 240p patch for Die Hard Arcade I can actually play it on an lcd now without video drop outs from resolution switching during cutscenes. For 32X my brother and I owned one growing up and we played a lot of Virtua Fighter, Virtua Racing and Star Wars. Star Wars would always freeze on the death star level for me in the core that's on update_all, the beta core from around October seems to have that issue fixed
That was a fantastic video! Do you think it's possible someone will create an FPGA-based Neo Geo AES console that can play both cartridges and Neo Geo CD games?
@@VideoGameEsoterica Dreamcast VERY soon, bet. There is a huge underexplored potential of hybrid emulation on MiSTer hardware. Remember you don't just get an FPGA but also two ARM cores. I think Dreamcast is viable as just Flycast on ARM with tile processor (ISP and TSP) broken out to run on the FPGA, and everything else in software. PS2 is going to be a lot more spicy and i have massive doubts it can be done, but imagine if GPU, VU1 and DMAC were on FPGA and everything else was on ARM. There are still huge advantages compared to software emulation, for example Dreamcast's GPU logic does not cleanly map onto the functionality of any GPU existing today. You already have pure software cores running on ARM in Mister such as ScummVM and more hybridisation just makes sense, such as adding Munt and Fluidsynth to ao486. Obviously with no help from Alejandro.
@@VideoGameEsoterica Yes and the reason i don't suggest offloading TA is that it fires up to a shit-ton of interrupts while allocating the TA data array, because communication between ARM-Linux world and FPGA world can get very latency and overhead expensive. But also it's just such a CPU-friendly unit to emulate that it makes barely any sense. TA just buckets the strips into tiles. BTW existing emulators don't really emulate the TA, they just pretend that it ran but didn't need to allocate any memory or make any buckets, and odds are i wouldn't properly emulate its behaviour either, at least at first, just a custom bucket format and a dedicated side channel, which is guaranteed to need less than 8MB. With PS2 i'm not so in-depth familiar with the architecture as to suggest that a good emulation boundary can be drawn, that this method is possible in principle. I'm not big brained enough for it.
@@VideoGameEsoterica I am talking about emulation, not for other uses. And yes its a joke comparing it to normal pc emulation, offers nothing new or something we didnt see all these years of people's excellent and hard work.Overhype for nothing really

We must have 3DO. It’s FPGA’s final boss!
Honestly, with PS1 and N64, Mister has already reached the point that I'm ready to make the jump. That's the most I want out of this system.
Jump away then!

Just go Direct video mode. But no analog requires both GPIO headers so it’s dual ram and direct vid or single ram and analog

@VideoGameEsoterica I mean do they work with the Mister Pi?
MiSTer Addons does
Can't there be a mister addon for composite video? Instead of having to buy a vga to composite adaptor
As of yet there isn’t an IO board that has composite outputs. There’s just VGA and Saturn Mini DIN
