- This is the first episode of our podcast 'Svairālāpam', in which Paravastu Varadarajan swami and Vakulabharanan swami discuss about 'Who am I?' in detail.
This is a casual conversation which is mainly about how one must approach the argument regarding the existence of an Athma. Both the speakers are just exploring and examining various arguments, as the conversation unfolds.

Mind and sense organs serve as instruments , which are intimately connected to us. I am in the knower status. In deep sleep, I do not use the mind or sense organs and not knowing me or my status. That " I " is atma Knower is a vesham, I put on. I am pure conscious in deep sleep, so when I get up I could say , I slept well.

A small doubt pls
1. As per thirumalai avathirikai, oru athma Anna sambanthathodu purushanin rethasil kalanthu thaan garbhathil vaya pattu pirakarthu. But cloning technology is being researched now and it is seen that cloning can yield full bodies. How does an atma get to that body if all bodies are controlled by an atma?
2. With the advent of artificial intelligence with concepts of neural network, machine learning etc., there is a hypothesis that AI is moving towards being sentient beings. It can be seen that AI has near human intelligence or sometimes exceeds human intelligence and there is no atma sambantham there as it is only achit. How do we comprehend that?
Adiyen.
1) In thirumaalai avatharikai , the path described is of a specific set of people who are returning from Svargaloka. There are other Jeevathmas, who can get a body in a different way. This has been described in Brahmasutras (3-1-18,19,20,21). So, there are innumerable ways to get a body.
2) It is true that AI is developing in a rapid pace. Some scholars opine that intelligence and consciousness are two different things and AI may never develop consciousness. Even if it does, adiyen personally feel that, it won't contradict our belief systems. We have many instances, wherein rishis have created beings. AI may also be considered to be a similar being with a Jeevathma which has come in by means mentioned in the first answer.

Free talk. The word is used in some stotras
vriti viypti and pala viyapti - and not brain.... in my opinion. Brain is a matter. the atma is not body, brain, and thoughts.
atma is a swayam prakashaka, indescribable.
