- I bought this Craftsman LT1000 to replace the one we had been using at St. Bernard Acres for the last 6 years. It was in a field and wouldn't start, so I took a chance on it for $50.
The first thing I did was replace the battery, to no avail. Secondly I replaced the solenoid, and it worked!
Now we have another beater to help with the clean up at St. Bernard Acres
Yes, I fashioned the same oil drain for mine out of galvanized fittings. It's a big problem saver.
Awesome deal Joe! I knew you'd get it started.
Great find. Good job Joe. Fine mower right there.
Nice score Joe! 👍 I love my Craftsmans..can't beat them!
+NB88 Exactly!
Great Craftsman mower. Those are good quality machines.
But do Not But the New Ones Because they are now made by Mtd the Deck isnt as deep as the old decks. The transmission is the Bull crap forward Neutral Reverse! also the drive belts on them are A Pain to replace! But if you want a Craftsman like the old ones Get a Poulan They are built by husqvarna With a 6 speed!
I was thinking it was low tire pressure. You're always up to something, Joe.
+KMAC Radio Easily bored lol. Wait till I move out to St Bernard Acres and have that barn to work in lol
Eat your heart out, Mustie1.
Nice score Joe.
All the best, matey.
Great find! also Awesome job fixing it! :)
Good job. Looks pretty good to be 20 years old.
+Rita Hale Thanks. Paint that deck, and it will look good.
I buy only the old ones, the new ones will cost a ton to just patch up
There’s a market for older mowers to the smarter people
Good job Sir ol fellow WV man myself
The bad battery prob took out the solenoid . Low voltage will melt electrical components on those . Sometimes it will take out charging system , so may put a volt meter on battery to confirm it is charging . That one is manual blade engage , but a bad battery can lead to electric clutch fail . . It would be a good idea to adjust valves and make sure the bottom of head is clean and clean under the cooling shroud . If it still starts hard after valve adjust , some voltage drop test may tell more , but a low battery , jumping and stuff can also be hard on a starter . Also make sure engine mounting bolts to frame are tight as many get the ground that way. When the deck is off i would check bearings in all pulleys . also make sure the top of that trasnaxle is clean and the fan on top is good as heat is no good for them . A little love and a few parts it will prob be a good mower . Also it was hunting a bit on low rpm , a splash of sea foam may take care of that .
When I offered a price I think it has to have a battery, carb replacement and fuel hoses, cut off valve and filters, oil . Most of the time the camshaft is bad also
You made a very good by on it with the engine and it’s simple build 😊😊😊
Dang good job! nice mower
+Dora Goodin Thanks!
Your like my pops. You guys know everything 🙌🙏
Mustie1 would be proud of you Joe.
+Joker68 You are the second person that mentioned that, so I went and looked. lol. That's pretty awesome. I subscribed. I thought it was someone making fun of me lol.
I just pick the same one up for 40$ that’s got a 20hp craftsman motor on it just gotta swap the solenoid that I already have n it’ll fire right up with new blades also
I have seen more people bring in older mowers to be fixed including both belts and carb replacement plus new battery etc
Seems they know they have better quality than they can buy
I have the same Craftsman mower and you have to replace the solenoid
Good job!
+AZVIDS Thanks!
Neighbor used one like this. It had slightly different tires, and I think it had a different engine too
I have the exact same mower. It was running fine but had trouble turning off. Every time it would idle down to shut off, the engine would try to boost back up. I thought trying to turn it on while the engine was running would maybe cause it to turn off but now it won’t start at all. Do you think it’s a solenoid problem or the starter? Because the solenoid does the exact same clicking like yours
would any good working solenoid work? They all do the same thing. As long as it can mount and get a good ground.
+Rashell Yohn I would have to think yes.
Good score
+beach Life 👍
Great info...thanks for sharing!
+Mike Dodds 👍
Check the ground wire and take the cables off to solenoid and starter and clean the ends see what it does cuz you got power coming from the battery to the solenoid if it clicks you don't have enough power from the solenoid over to the starter to kick to start in clean those cable ends and see what it does
Check ground at solenoid, eather base type or wire to frame
That single click is the fuel plunger under the fuel bowl.
What we do if it’s the Fuel
Plunger?
Check the transmission out or rebuild- and your good to go
Nice!
Voltage was less than 0.4. That battery was shot.
I found a rider mower that didnt start offered 100 dollars it sat outside for 2 years put a new battery in it changed the has put air in the tires new fuel filter on it cleaned the plunger on the fuel pump started right up first crank drove it home 3 miles to my house runs great changed the oil just like a new one saved over thousand dollars plus
+joseph kirsch Awesome! I hate this throw away society.
i subscribed buddy! great work!!!
mines doing the same thing, and its got a new starter and battery, so its got to be selenoid
That red wire covered with red plastic is showing some exposure maybe? Check it out.
+Elizabeth Thanks! I will look for sure.
Thats rocks!!
+Jeff Thanks!
It's probably the silenoid that's all messed up Or your Carbrator might be clogged
First thing is adjust the valve lash
98% need it badly and before it breaks the cam release
👍🤠👏
+Living The Dream 👍
Great deal! But it's $50.00 + the battery and solenoid.
+Bobbie Harrison $26 & $13. With gas, makes it about a $100 mower!
AllWAYS adjust the value lash first thing and new battery
If you can bypass the solenoid and apply 12v to starting motor and see what happens..
Did something catastrophic happened to your old craftsman LT 1000
+Kajler Dog Yes. It was finally retired lol.
St. Bernard Acres Will you be doing a mowing video with this mower
@@kajlerdog628 I'm taking it out tomorrow to try using it. I think there is more wrong to it than I thought. A lot of backfire and sputtering in the engine as it runs. I'll let you know.
St. Bernard Acres okay
The blades are engaged. you can't start the mower with the blades engaged. smh
