- Destiny 2's Lore and Story tells us about Clovis Bray the 1st & makes it incredibly clear that he is and always will be a power-hungry egomaniac. His dreams of ascension into godhood via the Warmind Rasputin might have been shot to pieces, but there can be little doubt that he has not stopped plotting since he was last repelled in the Season of the Seraph. Today I wanted to look at the potential for future storylines involving Clovis Bray & what his actions could mean for the wider world of Destiny.

I'd like to point out that the vex formed gangs in the prison of elders. Like we never got to see vex activily fight vex and now I'm wondering what their shit talk sounds like. I can't help but laugh because we know what all the other species sound like speaking English but the vex are pure logic so imagine them having such a break in belief of what would bring about their perfect end that they started beefing with eachother enough to shit talk and have faction wars. We've heard humans that got turned to vex speak broken English but from memory we have not heard pure vex do so

On the topic of Rasputin becoming a Guardian, those who played the season of the seraph, after he sacrifices himself, you can hear a faint noise that sounds like the noise a Ghost makes followed by a blue light that they shine when scanning for a Guardian, so him returning as one isn't entirely impossible
Would be a cool callback to the original story for Destiny that ended up getting scrapped in development.

@@aviatorengineer3491I’m not sure if Rasputin, reborn as a Guardian, even with his memories back, would allow himself to be kidnapped by Xivu or Savvy. But, it would be incredible if he joined us and Caital to take back Torobaital. Maybe a year after he’s been risen, becomes a Gurdian, and gets his memories back, we use Deepsight, or other means, to rebuild the Warsats, the Warsat Network, and other Warmind assets.

I have a feeling, Clovis will escape his prison on Europa. He’ll end up on Neomuna, see the potential in the city, and may try to use the Veil to usurp the Vex. In order to conquer the CloudArk, and the Vex Network. The Vex AI copy of Maya may try to kill Clovis for getting in her way. While the copies of the Ishtar Collective, may ask for our help, and aid us in ending this war they’ve been caught in. Not to mention, the Neomuni may be in danger as well.

Its the only that was intended. And as soon as bungie leave the Bray's for a season or dlc, story is shit. BeyondLight while having huge issues had an insane collector lore book, the dream of alpha Lupi, K1, Volantis, the birth of exos, birth of vex.... Season of the seraph ending cutscene with Ana hugging Elsie was the last time i felt something in Destiny. Theres so much to do from Clovis egotistical moves and godly ambitions, Elsie not being from our universe, like wtf? Why tf Bungie didnt elaborate on this instead of a random NightCity knockoff?

One of the little things I've always been curious about is if the quantum snapshot of Clovis's mind happened to include the Vex memetic infection he had. That *might* be the thing that's essentially protected him from the billboarding other AI copies developed before Clovis's discovery of Clarity and the development of Alkahest. As far as we can tell, the Clovis AI isn't in a true exo body and isn't running on modified Vex brain fluid, but Clovis himself was definitely infected and as it's been noted, Vex infection is a tricky thing to cure without a total reset.
If he is infected, we could have an interesting problem on our hands with Clovis Bray, the Insufferable Mind. Finally get a Vex antagonist with a personality, maybe involve Asher and the Ishtar team for some more Vex Network shenanigans. That'd be fun.
I will say that the odds of Clovis alligning himself with the darkness (intentionally) or forces like the Cabal is incredibly unlikely. For as much of a psychopath egoist he is his whole thing is about being the savior of humanity, he hates the traveler, the witness, cabal, or anything that might pose a threat to him being seen as humanities god/savior/overlord. I think the real concern needs to be if he aligns himself with factions like the concordant, or other anti city human factions.
Would be really cool if he joined darkness only to gain power,then betray them seconds after, because he's too much of an egomaniac to serve anything
I've been saying it for years since the moment Rasputin had the cutscene saying he rewrote Clovis out of his protocols at the season of the seraph, I knew Clovis would be the main villain after the witness is destroyed and they bring back Siva. It makes perfect sense and the lore is their to confirm it. Can't wait!
That would be something. Has to be Siva somewhere in Clovis' possession. And if he becomes part of the Vex, would take Siva Vex any day!

When episodes come out, it would be cool to see the Vex/Clovis episode that enhances Vex lore while adding Clovis as a villain. It was once stated (by Calus I think) that Vex that are in Sol System right now are mere "gardeners" compared to other Vex, so it would be cool to see a Vex like Asher Mir who has their consciousness, but he's malevolent
@@Justin_Leahythe Vex don’t have the worst lore imo. It’s actually my favorite. It’s just very hard to make them work because they’ve never had a real “character” in their faction. Unfortunately, the reason for that is due to the Vex’s inherent nature. Since they’re robots running off of pure logic, and cannot grasp the illogicality of paracausality, they don’t really have anyone in their ranks, EVER, who we could basically form some kind of a relationship with.
There has never been a Vex that’s basically spoken with us or with other Vex on a regular basis, and the Vex language that we HAVE seen is just gibberish at first sight since they’re so different from us.
We know the true goals of the Vex, but since they are by far the most alien out of all the different aliens, it’s the most difficult to make work and not compromise their “alieness” in a sense.

I feel like if we were to have an expansion dedicated to the Vex, Clovis would have to be the main antagonist.
I still think they should do a golden age show with all his dark dealings and shady secrets sort of in a you format where it makes you appreciate the bad guy

The universe of Destiny is so massive. I think we take for granted how much effort it involves to develop this beautiful universe. I hope this franchise grows even bigger and better over time and I hope it never dies. I hope this game will forever be the GOAT
I think he knew what he was doing with trying to replace the traveler as he was once had a conntection to the witness to create that vex portal on europa and i wouldnt be suprised if the witness had plans in mind to make clovis be part of the vex of the sol divisive if they somehow failed to access the veil
I think if we see a Clovis storyline it might be reusing some of the material from pre rewrite d1, I really like the idea of Rasputin(as it was at that time) being the motivation and stumbling block to the story
This would actually be a very smart move. Going from an extremely existential threat to a literally human one would be a nice change of pace. We’ve never really participated in any “civil wars” they all happened in the past. Warlords vs iron lords, concordat vs consensus etc. Stories of internal conflict are often the most interesting, it would be even cooler if we saw some guardians side with Clovis.
I would love to see Clovis become an “ultron” of destiny 2 and maybe even somehow have some control over the vex. There for we could have exo/vex hybrids or maybe a faction of the vex switched to tuned up exo body’s. Just spitting out ideas 😀

The Concordat are the ones who sent the skimmers as a gift for the guardians games, which could be just some sort of easter egg, or the next big hint as to what's happening next.
It’s cool to think that the Scorn and now Clovis are making new life with Darkness, something that kills, reduces, and stops in place. This might be our introduction to a new form of Darkness.

Although it would still be a terrible idea, if clovis were to become powerful through overtaking the power of light/the traveler i feel his extreme stubbornness would stop the witness from being able to control him
I think Clovis Bray will merge with the Vex hive mind and become our next antagonist and the face of the Vex going forward. I think the Vex want to assimilate all robot life including Exo's, and their end game is to simulate and create paracasality.
Plus he has the narrative connection with Elsie and Ana who’ve always had beef with Vex
There’s also the Vex AI copy of Maya, the one that went insane with obsession. She may give Clovis trouble, while the Vex copies of the Ishtar Collective, may be the ones to aid us in ending the war between Clovis and Maya. They could be a faction of the Vex, that has learned what it means to feel, and have empathy. They aren’t as closely connected to the Vex hive mind. I imagine Nimbus and Quinn will call for our, and Osiris’ aid in defending the Neomuni. Since they are still living in the CloudArk. Mithraks, Ana, and Elizabeth could also get involved. Considering it’s the Vex and Clovis we’re talking about.
Also remember asher is in the network so there's a opportunity of a split between asher and clovis with the vex and the sol divisive as the 3rd fringe group

The Witness didn't really have a reason to.
I predict at the end of Final Shape we'll hinder the Witness as he's in the process of recreating the pale Heart which will lead to the Raid. The end of the campaign Cutscene will show Vex Portals opening up in the Pale Heart with new Vex frames coming through, and at the front a new Vex Mind that I believe will be Clovis. Through his research the Vex will learn how to simulate paracausality. He'll be our antagonist in Echoes.

Would it be possible that the Vex would try to come in and take CB’s stuff? Of all that factions that would benefit the most from gaining as deep an understanding of the Darkness/Stasis as Clovis did, it’d probably be them right? Dude was able to more or less measure paracausality, the one thing stopping the Vex from beating us
Has Byf done a video covering the possibility of Rasputin coming back as an Exo? A Guardian reborn in the Light, and the complications of that in the future? At this point, him coming back, feels like it’d be after the war with the Witness. It feels like he’d be a Warlock honestly. There’s also a number of ways he could get his memories back. If we can rebuild the Warsats, the Warsat Network, and recover other Warmind assets, Rasputin could be a powerful ally in reclaiming Torrobaital from Xivu. We’d need his orbital weaponry to take out her fleet, and War Moons. His Warsats would also be the perfect weapon to disable the Dreadnuaght if Xivu were to salvage its weapon and use it against us and Caital’s fleet.
The house of salvation could align with Clovis with Taniks walking into the leadership vacuum, and some more possible eliksni exo hybrids. In the same way you mentioned the eliksni possibly worshipping Clovis as an ascended being, I could see Taniks taking up part of that mantle as well.
Id like the next few years of destiny to be a bit smaller in scale compared to the all-encompassing conflict between Traveller and Witness. Like, great, weve uncovered the mysteries of the universe. What does that actually do for us and whose gonna take advantage? I'd like to think that after the current loose threads in the Episodes get wrapped up, we start getting some Human antagonists. Concordant, Warlords, all that juicy stuff

I could even imagine bringin back asher mir! He is one of the only individuals that I would trust to handle Clovis, especially through his connection to the Vex now.
Something to keep in mind is that there are rogue guardians. And we've already seen that some exos have sympathetic ideals to clovis. I'm also not fully convinced that we've seen the last of Lakshmi 2 either.
Quick question: season of the witch, Eris kills sacar Huns and takes her powers to become a hive god. Ok, now let’s go back to ghost of the deep. They were trying to bring back oryx. What if that was their plan as well? Bring back oryx, kill him, and xivu takes that power. Maybe that wasn’t as much of a possibility before in gotd, but what about now with civus current position? Not only because she might want to try and get the dreadnaught and take oryx’s throne-world as her own but also take the power to control it. She could also possibly find her hammer again and even use savathuns scalpel as well(I think that’s what it’s called)
the lucent brood has been in firm opposition to xivu’s brood since even before witch queen, xivu would probably just kill them all
I think it would be really fucking fun if there were a dungeon or raid in which we fight a fully built giant exo of Clovis Bray. Similar to the Oryx fight where he is leaning over the edge of the battlefield. And maybe we have 3 phases where we have to destroy each of his arms and then his head.
someone in the comments also said something about his merging with the vex and making his own version of them, and I think that would make a very cool enemy to also fight in this raid. Perhaps we discover what he's doing, and break into his factory and try to stop him.

I’m kinda Clovis ends up being like Harbinger from mass effect when we fight him… him with an army of exos being all “ I am assuming direct control of this form”.
I think the best way to describe Clovis now is how Zavala described Rasputin back during warmind. Too dangerous to be left alone and too unpredictable to wield or in this case reason with.
Honestly, i think the biggest question is, what happens once/if we defeat the Witness? What incentive does the Coalition have to remain allied once our mutual enemy is shattered and its forces scattered? Cabal might stay if for only to take on the Hive remnants with us, and the Eliksni will either stick with us as the Travelers chosen or follow the Traveler and the Light it moves on. Savathun is equal parts ally and hanging blade, who will most likely only stick with us so long as it's beneficial
Hey Byf I have a question. What's stopping Clovis from just making updated exos that don't need a subconscious to function and just attack the city that way? Like his factory is still mostly up and running still. I mean if I was in his shoes (pun intended) I would. Same time I'm probably just looking into it too much but still thought I would ask.
On a side note, now that we know both the stories of the Witness and Clovis Bray... I kinda think that the whole thing with Darkness whispering to Clovis was actually the Witness planning to make him a disciple by providing Clovis with a personalized understanding of the Final Shape: a perfect, eternal future for immortal humans where Clovis is the LUCA. His legacy forever secured, humanity once and for all freed from all its ailments. Kinda makes sense, I think. Or it is most likely not a new idea, Im just catching up to deeper Destiny lore later then the others

i think there is a solid chance of Clovis controlling the vex and a sect of the fallen
with all of Clovis' research into the vex and a whole year left alone i definitely think he could either control or build hid own vex mind
with the potential of siva returning, a small sect of fallen could easy turn to worship Clovis
this would also be a very good avenue for a "new" race to fight as bungie likes to do, with siva/exo modifications to the vex and for some siva/vex modified fallen, it could be a totally different style of enemy for good gameplay reasons as well as not being to taxing on devs since they would be most altered models instead of new ones
there is also a chance of stasis being used by Clovis' forces with the pyramid there
Im going to assume, if the next major dlc involving vex/exos, hes going to use what remains of the facility to somehow build new exos completely Puppeted to him. Making the building process faster, and perhaps even merging them and himself with the vex, creating the first truly humanized/sentient vex mind, like a weird Ultron concept or model. He'd use his new form to not only gain control of humanity, but as petty revenge against those he now deem as enemies. In the end, if he wins, he is essentially a dictator of the last city if all the "Enemies within" are "Removed" "Cut off"
If this become a major dlc, then Exos or some sort of Puppet sounding name for the Exos to accurately describe their devotion to Clovis could be a formidable technically new enemy race.
Something overlooked about Clovis is he wanted to save humanity & his actions although egotistical were for what he thought would benefit humanity, his family and himself. He wanted rid of the Traveller before the Darkness could arrive and therefore they'd leave Earth/humans alone. Maybe shortsighted but not totally evil. Similar to our Guardians position when using paracausal Light & Dark powers. There's also the fact that the Golden age, ships and tech were influenced by Clovis and still are somewhat by Banshee.

I still never understood why Rasputin didn't upload his personality into something else. That way his main link to the Warsats is cut but he himself remains. Also, imagine the future saga of Destiny be reclaiming/defending the worlds of the City Coalition from the Hive, Clovis, and the Vex across different systems and planets of different origin. Taking back Torobotl and Riis prime from the Darkness and defending Sol from Clovis' mechanical armies and potential Vex mind takeover to give him another potential army of Clovis' mind.

I'm curious if there is a portion of the war mind left on io, I don't believe that bungie has really touched upon what is happening on io right now but I wonder if a fraction of Rasputin is left there since it could have been gone during the period in which Rasputin destroyed himself and thus leaving a unaccounted portion of Rasputin behind. Clovis is undoubtably planning something behind the scenes and I wouldn't be surprised if it involved io if it was not present during the time of seraph.
You forgot one… Taniks, since he was in the DSC maybe Clovis can get access to a brain scan of taniks or something and convince the eliksni to follow.. he may be known as Taniks the repurposed.

If there is anyone who could achieve mind-melding like how Maya and the Witness did... it would certainly be Clovis because he literally runs a factory and an entire repository of minds he could replicate and bodies to exploit.
Question this is just a theory that I got after the video but could the being that Clovis Bray was communing to be in fact Nezerec instead of the witness considering what Nezerec was does fits in line with the dreams and mental manipulation received to Clovis Bray as well as the creation of the Exos doesn’t make much sense in terms of the witness plans but makes more sense for Nezerec in terms of the torturing process.
I think that we could see Clovis having a way to control the House of Salvation on Europa. With access to the DSC data logs he has the blueprints to not just remake Atraks-2 but Give Taniks a steel chair to bring terror to the universe once again. Atraks-2 could spread the word of clovis and have the powers of Stasis given the darkness statue in the DSC.

Clovis has also said that he can replicate what a ghost does if he can study some. *something along those lines*

Question; does DER scale? Would a giant Exo go crazy the same way the one with 4 arms did?
Another question; if a Fallen with 2 arms is put in an Exo body with 4 arms, would they go insane?
I don’t think so. Since the reason why some Eliksni have 2 arms (mainly dregs) is because they have them cut off through a practice called docking, made to make them subservient to their captains (they can grow them back if they consume enough Ether, which is why as part of the docking process, they have their ration of Ether reduced enough to stop them from growing back). So, if an Eliksni woke up with 2 more arms, they would be surprised, but not paranoid about having those arms because they had them before. Now, if an Eliksni were to wake up with 6 or 8 arms, that would likely cause DER.
Lots of possibilities, whos to say Clovis doesnt just dublicate himself and try to accomplish all the plans he might have at the same time.
A Clovis/Vex DLC would slap so hard.
thankfully Elsie (the stranger) is keeping an eye on him, as per her parting words at the end of the season of the seraph. Keep an eye on her everyone, and on Ana. Those two are both blessed and burdened by their mixed heritage, and they will be the ones who will the one's most wary around Clovis.
Ever since seraph I’ve assumed that Clovis is going to be assimilated into the Vex Net and will be the primary antagonist in Echos. The Vex have never really had a good antagonist because they have no personality. But I hope that Echos will follow us having to face a vex force controlled by Clovis with the help of Asher we will get this antagonist in the vex that has actually personality
Clovis and the Concordat teaming up would be interesting because it would be primarily human enemies, or at least human-designed machines. Maybe even hostile Guardians. I'd be super into that.
Oh shit! I just thought of Clovis helping the Concordat. Making frames and weapons for them, promising to help even the odds and institute a “regime change”.

The Clovis AI would have been a perfect raid boss. Battling it out against a giant Clovis Exo frame would have been great! Then have it be Anna and Elizabeth who engages the fall of the Morning Star to land the final blow. The Clovis AI frame explodes in spectacular fashion. The Deep Stone Crypt get blown wide open to reveal the Darkness statue. But if you can’t get that, store bought is fine…
This has always bugged me. If the Witness needed the Traveller to connect The Veil to enter the Pale Heart. Why would he have so many followers try to destroy it?🤔
