- A rare glimpse at Nick Beggs laying down a Stick track in a recording session for artist Rob Reed of the band Magenta. The track is titled "Beneath the Waves", and will be released in 2011. The engineer in the clip is Jakko Jakszyk known for his work with King Crimson and Level 42.
Wow, I'm binge watching Nick Beck videos. He is such a gifted Musician. 👏
So is his brother Jeff
Gifted but he worked that talent up, that’s hours upon hours of getting to know his instruments…
Same here.
For those who don't know, the other guy visible here is great guitar/vocalist and producer Jakko Jakszyk. To see him excelling, find King Crimson' Starless (live) here on YT.
Nick doesn't get enough credit for being a great musician
He does in my house!
In every yt video with Nick Beggs, there s plenty of people complaining in comment sections on how underrated he is which eventually means he s not as long as everybody agree on how skilled he is.
@@Boss_Tanaka Dude. You're going to cause a rift in the space-time continuum with a comment like that. Be careful.

What a beast!
I really, really like Nick Beggs...his musicality, sense of humor, and humanity. And, he wrote and played the best, sexiest bass line of the 1980s, in my humble opinion. Nick, I wish you many more years of playing music -- both for yourself (ourselves) and Kajagoogoo. Cheers, mate!
His timing is out of this world.
Agreed!
Oh man I don't know how he timed that lick at 4:40 so spot on.....that was down right spooky.
There was one spot in the middle it just started to drift, but all the punchy stuff his timing was superb.
So true!
Nick Beggs is a true gent, wonderful to work with and an extremely talented musician.
A true djentleman :D
Never ceases to impress me this guy. What gets me is not only his incredible skill to play the technical stuff but to also make that blend seamlessly into the music he's playing without being brash, it's totally in keeping with the feel of the music.
Nick is one of the rare Masters of the Chapman Stick !!!
right, together with Tony Levin.
The thing that makes Nick so effective is that he never forgets to groove and make the SONG better. His bass lines are interesting and complex but they always dance
So much creativity and imagination, this guy is the most underrated bass player on earth !!
He's amazing to watch. Holy talent.
I am watching this over and over.....love Nick Beggs....his playing, he is so unique....saw Kajagoogoo in England back in the ol' day.....those were such great days....fun times... I never get tired of watching him play this.....XO
Kajagoogoo Bass player Nick Beggs is since years not only an amazing bass player he's even a Chapman Stick Master, respect ! Cool guy :-)
I've lost count of how many times I've watched this video. Nick is just flat out laying it down here. Brilliant playing, amazing feel.
Simply a incredible bass player. The live shows with Steve Hackett are spotless.
You don't think about these stars when they leave their moment in the spotlight but it just shows how a little dedication can reward you with a lifetime of self expression and spiritual joy.Thank goodness for music.
Fan-bloody-tastic! What a real talent he has!
the best bass player in POP of '80-'90 and still
Mark King is better on pop and funk, but beggs are better on progrock, fits perfect with Steven Wilson's work..The King of Progrock and beggs has those insane basslines in Wilson's music
No doubt about it.
Derek Forbes wins simply for coming up with the best bass lines.
Indeed!!! 😎🎸
I had the pleasure of seeing Nick live when he played with John Paul Jones on tour in 2000. Fantastic musician!
Saw that tour in Cincinnati. Playing the Stick & wearing a kilt!
Some seriously great stick playing right here!
What a great track! Great vocals, great range of instruments and of course, the icing on the cake; Nick Beggs on bass. Can't get much better than this!
I watched this video dozens of times and i love it more each time
Wow!...I never knew how amazingly talented this guy was!
I agree. He’s a wonderful musician. Share, share! I love this Chapman stick. I’d never seen or heard one before until…. Nick. Thanks to dear friend for exposing me to him. ❤
A great pleasure to listen Nick 👍🏼
That Nick certainly fills any void rather creatively with bass. .
Here by roundabout route from PDBass. I've always loved this man's playing since Kajagoogoo, but I never learned his name until recently. I'm happy to hear more of his excellent work.
Wow, l never heard bass tapping technique sounds as funky as this!! Incredible!!
BEAST!
First time i've seen Nick play; what a great feel, really makes the stick sing, which a lot of people don't!
Beautiful, just beautiful.
Really masterful. Superb performance on the stick. 👍👍🥇
this gentleman is one of the best bass players ever.. when I think of great bass tracks to shy is right up there. Les Claypool, Flea, Cliff Burton, Getty Lee and mister Nick are the best at what they do. much love Nick keep making awesome music..
+Matt Sealy 100 % agree, have you heard of Victor Wooten? he's amazing too!
Getty? Seriously?
Good shout! So many more names to add, but the only one i feel i need to add at this point is Mark King... \m/ (:o)
The lack of Tony Levin in your list disturbs me.
That bass line on Too Shy is really what made that song a Top 10 hit and "Best of the 1980s" selection.
Had a drink with Howard and Nick during a break at Ollie's diner in Ascot. It's amazing to catch up with those two superb musicians.
Gosh @Nickbeggs you make it looks so easy! Whats not to love about the gorgeous soul. His sound gets right in there! Respect WovenWorld Love, Pip x
Thanks for being one of my huge fan ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
@@nickbeggs9781 *Sigh ~ Thank you, Nick! ~ Tons of Love, Pip xx
Absolutely love Nick. This track is awesome 👏
Fantastic - Great work Nick!!!!!
Excellent, please do keep us updated, this track is bloody marvelous.
Any update?
Nick has it in bucketloads.only just realised how technical this piece was...that guitar has a really unusual string layout...E/Bstring in the middle? crazy.
Well its a Chapman Stick - not a guitar as such
Ya' gotta love Nick Beggs; however, I like to see him on stage when he's wearing his traditional kilt! What a bassist he is!
Fantastic musician 👏👏👏
Spot on. Try to slap this line on a standard 5-string. His timing is really amazing 👍
Such an underated and gifted bass player and musician!
RADICAL DUDE!!!! That is some SICK STICK!!!!
Right in the pocket, with exactly what the song needed.
who would think,KAJAGOOGOO!!, WHAT A BASS PLAYER NICK BEGSS IS!!!
Orest Buciora When I first heard that song Too Shy I almost fell of my chair when i heard that bass riff of his.. He was the best thing about that band.

He sure was! Such an amazing bassist. That bassline still gets me after all these years.
At the time of Kajagoogoo ('83) i was a 16 yo narrow-minded rock/metal fan, but i could still see the talent that Nick had as a bassist. All these years later, although i am still a 'rocker' in my heart of hearts, i love all kinds of music, and have grown to absolutely love Kajagoogoo, and have to say that the rest of the band are no slouches, either. Superb musicians and a great band! I am so pleasantly surprised how Nick has crossed-over into my world of rock/prog etc. in recent times, and his talents have only intensified over the ensuing years! As i say, Beggsy has been a hero of mine since 1983, although i was fucked if i were to admit it at the time!! Ha! Keep up the amazing work, Nick... \m/ (:o)
Nicks' musicianship just blows me away each and every time i hear his work! I will sum Nick up in six easy words - The Guy Is Simply A Legend! Long may you continue with the talent that was bestowed upon you Nicholas... Lol! \m/ (:o)
"Musicianship" lol
He's not at sea, mate lol
How freakin' cool is Nick Beggs, still!!! Wonderful :-)
I’ve learned of and/or grown to really appreciate 3 bassists associated with members of Genesis. Nick through Steve Hackett, Leland Sklar through Phil 😂Collins and Tony Levin through Peter Gabriel. Amazing musicians.
Truly gifted.
Saw him with Steven Wilson at The Albert Hall.
Magical. 👍
A touch of class!
Bravo Nick!!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
its the precise movement of his fingers and the timing breaks, a man very much in the zone and using his ears!
This is absolutely fantastic 😁🎶🎵
Super Musician!!!!What a great player u are Nick!!!
Makes it look effortless!
Truly AMAZIN' !!!
Very beautiful song, well played!
Absolutely mesmerising
Wish that I had some headphones...WOW! Still have goosebumps!
'Kompendium - Beneath The Waves' is the album and it's to be released in September. I'll post more details when I'm able.
You can see the interaction between Nick Beggs, the drummer and the violin player. :P
wow! tight! what a titan!
Nick is fantastic
My first night as sound engineer at “The Orange” club in west ken, and it’s a chapman stick convention with mr Beggs hosting.I had never seen one before, great night though and fond memories.
Nick's playing reminds me of some pieces in Animusic. Just awesome!!! Thank you.
I saw (and met) Nick on John Paul Jone’s Zooma tour. He was absolutely incredible.
Nick is an AMAZING musician !!!
Just unreal! This is a style I could see myself striving for on the Stick, and hope one day to achieve.
I am mesmerized watching him play that.
Nice tune! Cool to see the bass part being laid down, and watch it being played if one wanted to get some stick inspiration. ❤☮🌎
esp. love his contribution to Iona early years...
Iona - The Island - RUclips
wow... amazing player
Unbelievable. This is so perfect
Massively under-rated and a thoroughly nice guy.
Plus, he is morphing into Raistlin
What a master! incredible.
Helpful to watch. Thanks for posting.
Pretty awesome to find this.
That's truly right, very talented musician, underrated! Bought your new lp ITS Awesome!
Freaking amazing. He makes look so effortless
2019... I love Bassist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome, that tone!!!!!
he is a beast! totally awesome!!!
How is it possible that I am only now discovering this dude?
The fever of the outro!
Omg I could listen to you forever!
One serious musician....
OMG mind blowing.....where s the rest of it?
Ahhh, yes, brings back memories of Nick's awesome Stick work with Iona...
I agree with Kalypticbass: only with the Stick you can do a bass part like this. I love my basses, and I love my Stick :-)
I met Emmett Chapman when he was introducing the stick in the late 70's early 80's, can't remember the date exactly. He was doing a clinic at the music store I worked at. I think it was only a 10 string with a Larry Dimarzio custom pickup. Didn't know what to make of it until I heard King Adrian Belew in KC years later.
The tone is also purrty darn awesome
Amazing bass player only just learned about the chapman stick amazing at that too is there no end to his talent
The best in my book, by far.
めっちゃくちゃカッコいいです。
何度も何度も観てます。
ご存じでしょうが、未だに第一線で健在です。嬉しいことです。
TO jest niesamowite , słucham i znowu wracam , słucham hymmmm
I think I have a new favorite bass player. He's immediately jumping to my top 10. Didn't realize he was the guy who plays for Steven Wilson.
didn't know he was the bass/stick player in kompendium. nice.
This guy is AMAZING!
What a master!
Fantastic stuff
Awesome.....bravo Nick!
Saw him last night with steven wilson, easily some of the best bass playing I have ever seen
