It is called regular-speed train in China. Some Chinese says the Kenyan SGR is interesting because it comes with a regular-speed train and with a high-speed-train-class service and station. Maybe it doesn't compete with the Japanese train system but at least it's better than Amtrak.

Kenya Railways and the contractor have given the best solution to Kenya's SGR development. Given the current infrastructure and power stability. Safety, cost and efficiency should still be on top of the list. Beautiful Kenya SGR. :)
High speed train is only for passenger train, while the SGR is mainly used for cargo. But the service of its passenger train is also great. With the demand and the development, and only if Kenya have enough passenger take train, you will also build one more advanced railway line(passenger only). Bro-Africans and Chinese

Kenya's SGR has been designated primary for goods transport not for passengers. If focus on high speed rail line for passenger than goods transport then a return on investment might not get recovered at all. So it is quite obvious that the speed is not the prime concern to start with.

Kenya Railways and the contractor have given the best solution to Kenya's SGR development. Given the current infrastructure and power stability. Safety, cost and efficiency should still be on top of the list. Beautiful Kenya SGR. :)

High speed train is only for passenger train, while the SGR is mainly used for cargo. But the service of its passenger train is also great. With the demand and the development, and only if Kenya have enough passenger take train, you will also build one more advanced railway line(passenger only).

Been following your videos. Its a slow train when compared to Chinese speeds trains but thank you as you have not misrepresented my country. We are taking baby steps to the right direction. Pundits argue the money used to construct that SGR train railway line & the railway itself would have bought a speed train. Love your you tube videos man! Always insightful
I'm Chinese, my brother and several family members work in railway system, I know if we build faster bullet train system in Kenya, the ticket price will be dozen times, so honestly although the SGR is not the fastest railway in the world, it's the best choice for current Africa. Just like what we Experienced decades ago. If we unite together, the future is bright, there is still a lot of achievement for us to make. best wishes from China!

The train station is modern and the train is clean and quite fast. They seem much better than many passenger train services in the UK
Kenya's SGR has been designated primary for goods transport not for passengers.
If focus on high speed rail line for passenger than goods transport then a return on investment might not get recovered at all.
So it is quite obvious that the speed is not the prime concern to start with.

If a train that travels at 120 - 140 km/hr is a slow train, then all trains in the United States of America are slow trains. It is not an electric high speed bullet train, but it's not a slow train either...
LOL there are no slow trains in China, the slowest trains which go from 90km/h to 120km/h are named "fast trains" (K trains). 140km/h = "super fast".
Considering build price, infrastructure, electricity power, ticket price, time the contracts was made and many other factors, I think this one is more suitable for Kenya at this situation. When Kenya’s economy is developed, There will be high speed trains there. Things changes step by step.
