Wow, I started watching this for the tips and really wound up feeling connected to your process. I'm floored by how far you take your project and in how many directions. Then I read your self-description and it sounds like we suffer from the same kind of indiscriminate Craft Madness, glad I found your channel!
Thank you for making this video! I've been watching everything on RUclips on this subject and was becoming dejected. (I'm geometrically challenged) Somehow, your instruction got thru to me. Am starting one today!
You have a very unique style of teaching that matches my style of learning. I have been struggling with the nice thin pieces of fabric between 2 pieces of fabric. The look of a crack in a rock. Wow I am ready for Improv quilting. Thank you ❤ You did a nice job on the circles with Derwent blocks. Smiles I love Derwent Block paint.
Fabulous video, I've done a little work on curves b4, your video takes it a step further (few steps) Excellent presentation Thank you, I'm excited to work on another piece. Yes, staying tuned for part 2
I’m fascinated by your artistic talents, shape, color, piecing choices & combinations, which is an area of quilting I am challenged by-I’m going to try this on a panel project.
I have been wanting to figure out how to do this improv curved piecing and found your you tube tutorial. Thank you so much...just love it and learning a lot and you do amazing work.
It's a little "cotton tail", you start with it so the machine doesn't "eat" your fabric when you start sewing, you cut it off near the end and use it to run off your fabric. It saves time with lifting the foot, and thread because when you cut the thread it's just behind the cotton tail...
Since your bottom and top fabric isn’t lined up with your machine’s 1/4” line, how do you keep a constant 1/4” seam? Is your foot lined up at 1/4”?? Thank you!
Heidi, I just love your creativity. I have tried this method, but have not had much success cutting as the fabric keep moving. Any tips? I am lefty things a little different for me. Looking forward to your finish. TFS!
I find that I have less movement if I use my smaller rotary cutter. Also, after you start the cut about an inch or so, try putting a finger on both sides of the cut behind the rotary cutter. I hope that helps, Janet.
Hello Heidi, I have a problem I hope you can help with. I am trying to make a Joseph’s Coat of many colors and I want to make vertical strips connecting two colors with this curvaceous technique but so far I can’t figure out how to do so without lots of fabric waste. I want the final piece to be 2-1/2” wide by appx 50” long. I want to sew 3 strips together and align the curved sections. I am having difficulty with getting the vertical edges to match up. Do you have any suggestions?
Incredible artistry. I am mesmerized. Thanks for your generosity in sharing with us.

Very nice video!! Very good instruction. I'm trying to learn curved piecing.
Thank you I love the way you explained everything ❤❤❤
That was fun to watch, oh the possibilities!!
Very interesting indeed!

I love curved piecing, I made a piece after watching videos of Jean Wells. Yours looks Great!
Thanks, Candace! I can’t say that I’m familiar with Jean Wells. Sounds like you had success if you came away loving it. 😉 Happy creating! 🙏
Tremenda artista ademas de coser pinta, por eso sabe combinar tab bien las telas, bellisimo trabsjo, increuble como resalto el curculo
Great lesson!!
Wow! Very informative. Thank you!
Brilliant 👏
This is great thank you so much
Большое спасибо за объяснение! Моё восхищение! Я, из России! Подписалась!
When you sewed the circle did you turn the corners under? I just want you to know I absolutley love your artistic mind. Thank you
I would have to pin pin pin lol. Awesome sewing
Whatever is the little thready piece of fabric for?

Looks like so much fun.
Would registration marks help with the horizontal black?
would you ever sew a straight piece to your curved piece and cut it after?
Since your bottom and top fabric isn’t lined up with your machine’s 1/4” line, how do you keep a constant 1/4” seam? Is your foot lined up at 1/4”??
Thank you!
My machine doesn’t have a 1/4” line. I believe the smallest line measurement is 3/8”. I’m using a 1/4” sewing foot. Happy creating!
When sewing the striped part to a solid piece of fabric, which side works best down against the feed dogs?
What is the paint you are using. That adds so much. I’m fascinated by your process. Thank you!
I believe I was just using Inktense blocks. Glad you enjoyed!

No worries, I figured it out. I laid the strips sideways!
Are those circles cut then placed with appliqué method?
They sure are.
Is the painted part permanent? Can you wash it?
Yes to both questions.
