Never had that happen to knock the poles out and it went through a few wind storms. Not hurricane force or anything. Poles are under a lot of tension so winds would have to be pretty strong to knock them out
Great review! Thanks. I just picked up a 2011 Forester and I really want to rig it out for camping. This looks pretty involved, but the rooftop camping must be superior to finding a spot on the ground every night. If you were to start over would you do this option again or look at other systems?
I would be comfortable getting another tent from Tepui. I really liked this little tent. It is a commitment to have it on the car. I wouldn't want to have to put it on for the weekend and then take it off. Once it's on, it's on for a season. So if you plan to have a 2+ month adventure like I did, then it's the way to go!
Way cool .. dope set up and the setting is legend .. can you tell me where this is ? Would love to hit it up one of these weekends but if you don’t want to spot burn I understand .. respect !!
mesh was really good. It keeps out mosquitos for sure. Very small bugs occasionally got in, especially if you have a light on inside the tent without the shades
Have you experienced any noise from the tent while driving? I'm not sure if it's the "rails" under the tent that are causing the noise, but when I get up to higher speeds there is an unbearable "screaming/howling" sound.
I never noticed any noise from the wind on my car (subaru forester). My tent is mounted with equal overhang on front and back. The geometry of your vehicle and tent may be creating the noise. I would try sliding the tent toward the front or back (and remount) and take it for a drive to see if that helps. It might be worth looking at a wind deflector for the front rail. I am also using aerodynamic crossbars (yakima jetstream) so your crossbars might be playing a role in the noise.
Yakima Jetstream: yakima.com/products/jetstream?variant=30947596501040 I just realized my previous response was regarding another one of my videos. Hopefully you found what you were looking for :)
I used yakima jetstream crossbars. Square bars are probably the best because of the shape of the tent's mounting brackets, but if the brackets are clamped tight any crossbar should work.
It's good, like an 8/10. But if I slept on my side, there were a few mornings that I woke up and I could feel it in my hip a little. A little extra padding like a blanket or a thin sleeping pad did the trick for me, but I didn't really need it.
Does the wind ever catch the rain fly’s and knock that metal poles out? Possible scratching the vehicle?
Great review by the way.

Now I see what the 4 bungee cords are for.

Thanks for watching! The thumbnail picture is along Route 1 north of Jenner, CA. The video was shot at the Gould Bar in Humboldt Redwoods State Park.
Great job! just bought one ,🤮cant wait 🤮
I am about to buy one. Did you get yours and are you happy with it ?
How fine is the mosquito net? Will it keep knot out( Small bugs/ mosquitos)

Do you feel the room being too small for 1 guy ?
Nope. I was alone in it most of the time and it was roomy for me. It's about the size of a full size bed.
Thus is perfect
Do you think this would work on my lil Impreza?
I don't see why not. Just about any crossbars should be rated for the weight of the tent.
Do you think you think it can fit 2 persons comfortably ?
yes, depending on your size, but it is about the same footprint of a standard 2-man tent
how tall are you supposed to be to fit this thing
@@nicolejohnlachica9778 I'm about 5' 10" and about 160 lbs. Anyone under 6 feet should be ok (for 1 person).
Do you have a link for the crossbars you use?
They are the Surly Moloko handlebars. They come standard on the Troll and similar models

@@exploresinc Thank you!
The poles are probably aluminum. I think brace would be unnecessarily expensive. :)
Poles are steel!
What is the mattress like for side sleepers?
