  • Have you tried it? Do you use it? I don't know a single person who does; and for good reason, it's pretty much useless, so did a deep dive and went from level 1 to 100 with this feature and came up with some good ways that we can use it to give it a real purpose.

I've been trying to find an easy way to add texture to my 3d prints to give them a different look, and also more grip, most of the prints I make need some kind of grip and they're pretty slippery, there are lots of ways to add texture, but I thought I would try something completely different and use the features in the slicer to help with it.
In this video, I show you how to add texture only where you want it in Cura, Bambu Studio and Prusa Slicer and I also show an even better way if you can adjust your model.

I use fuzzy skin for grip on handles as you mentioned. It can also be used to create interference fit when sliding two pieces together similar to crush pins.
Nice explanation of the way to selectively apply it.

Ahh, hey that's a great use as well, similar to the way they're use a knurled surface in metalworking for the interference fit. I'm going to have to try that! I'm glad you liked the video.

Could allow a glue/epoxy to get into the gaps and make a mechanical connection even if the plastic doesn't make a strong chemical one.

With Christmas coming up and of course winter here I have been making snowmen as decorations and I use fuzzy skin to give my snowmen a "snowy" finish and many have said it gives it a more finished look and hides layer lines, perfect for a snowman.

Ever since i realized what fuzzy skin was, I was hooked It is a great way to hide the layer lines and make it more looked like an injection molded part that has a texture on it which most do. The key is to not go over board on it and as small as possible.
what you showed is actually a pretty unique way of using it to add style to the part. pretty neat

Love it! I'm curious about the settings you use for it, I've never heard of anyone trying to use it to create that injection molded look. I have something that I'd like to make that would be perfect for this, I'll have to try adding just a bit like you're doing and see what types of looks we can get.

@@NeedItMakeItI'm at work now so going off memory, but I use cura and have a 0.1mm offset and .5mm spacing. I have a couple shorts on my channel recently that show what it looks like briefly.

Also to add. I've been using .3mm layer heights in some cases and it looks great. No huge layer lines. Leads to much faster printing

I have a project I'm working on that I'll be trying this one, it should be in my upcoming video if everything works out. Thanks for the tips on it. Pretty cool because I've been trying to find a way to make something look like it was cast iron for a while, this may be just what I've been looking for with the right settings.

I use modifiers in Prusaslicer where I then add fuzzy skin to only a section of the print. Also, it hides layers, giving a practical print a more finished look.
Also, thank you for stepping up your RUclips game. I've noticed you've been making more frequent videos. Keep on pumping the content! I really hope it works out for you 😁!

I have a lot to learn to get to an advanced level with Prusaslicer. Was it your first slicer? Which printer do you use it with?
I'm now full-time on Content Creation as of this week coming up, I'm looking at 2-3 videos/wk now. It's a big risk, but as they say 'no risk no reward' and I plan on getting in front of the camera more which helps to put out more videos, but it takes guts to do it, and I'm still working on that part, I'm not exactly a natural at it.
Thank you for noticing, I'm going to keep on working hard it it, hopefully it will lead to something sustainable and I can provide unique content that nobody else is making.
I'm open if you have video ideas as well!

There's a pretty big bug with prusa slicer when using modifiers for fuzzy skin. If you have a modifier that's part inside the mesh, it will actually draw entirely new perimeters around the inside of the modifier. Which is essentially never what you want. For an example take a cube and then add a modifier cube that sticks partially out of one face. Turn on fuzzy skin on that modifier cube and you'll see that it completely trashes the perimeters.

@@NeedItMakeItSorry, didn't got a notification when responded. I've used Cura, Superslicer and then Prusaslicer (and also Orcaslicer). In that order, but went back to mainly using Prusaslicer. I'm using it with my Klipperized Ender 3V2 + Ender 3 Pro + KP3S (if you can still call them that after the upgrades they went through).
Great to hear about the development with your channel, I think you're doing an awesome job in front of the camera.
If I have ideas for content, I'll send you a message. But my guess is you'll focus on mainly commercial machines which attract views and affiliate sales. I'm not sure I'm your main target audience 😛(but I'll still watch your content).

@@falxonPSN You are totally right. I did not notice that in the latest versions of Prusaslicer. Curious to know when they'll fix that. It doesn't make any sense to use it as of now. Thanks for the heads-up.

Some people seem to really like the fuzzy skin, but for me, when it pretty much triples the print time, I tend to stay away.. even if it were to work for the particular application.. would be nice if there were fill / paint options in slicers if you wanted it for just a small area, but didn't want to fiddle around with a bunch of nonsense to get that (for more than just that feature, honestly)

you can export all bodies that are visible as a mesh by right clicking the base component directly. no need to convert the bodies to components

      @NeedItMakeIt  10 месяцев назад

I'll have to give that a try, in Fusion it seems very particular about the way that you export in order to bring all part in at the correct position within the Slicer

I enjoy watching good content on 3D printing and I just stumbled on your channel. After watching a video I liked I clicked on this one next and within the first 20 seconds you do the RUclipsr move that I hate the most which is generalizing without anything to back up your claims... just so it sounds big, in favor for what you are going cover next. Just because you've never used fuzzy skin before doesn't mean others haven't. There's other ways to intro into the topic but that one ain't it. People who use it frequently will scratch their head in annoyance hearing that... but even someone who sporadically tried it will recognize that such claims are unfounded and assume other things you might say are false, too.
Clearly people are giving examples below for what they use fuzzy skin but again, getting this type of engagement thanks to "Nobody uses/needs this" type generalization isn't great.
