It's nice to see actual bicycle lock boxes in North America. I've not owned a car for 30 years and pretty much bike everywhere (yes even during winter) and I have found 90% of drivers are really good. They'll make some mistakes like pulling out too far at intersections but that's no big deal as long as I'm paying attention.

It's definitely nice to see a lot more bicycle infrastructure being implemented! Good job on the winter biking - us too!
It's just that last 10% of drivers who are dangerous that make non-protected routes much more stressful.

Your point about using the right tool for the job is a good one, not every trip needs to be done by car.
The issue is marginal cost. Once you've already paid for a car, insurance and parking, because say you must have a car to commute to work because your home is quite far away in a suburb without access to alternative forms of transportation, then the cost of the short trip becomes just gas and a small amount of wear on the vehicle.
Financially, the difference between having a car you use occasionally and being 100% car free is massive.
I suppose the place you can find real gains in the compromise position is 2 car households becoming 1 car households.

tbh, it's true. I want to do a full breakdown of the costs and why getting everyone in a household to be able to ride a bike for the majority of their trips makes it so that you rarely need a vehicle... which then results in a lack of NEEDING a second car.
If both people rely on driving, a second car becomes a huuuuge, expensive burden.
So yep, you make a good point but minimizing the amount driving can DEFINITELLY save a lot of people a lot of money. It's fairly nuanced.

Car share programs exist in almost all major cities too.

Dude, I have never actually seen one of those bike lockers. That's so neat! In London of all places. I am going to take a look if there are any local to me.
I love when they say "Mind your business". Lady, this is everyone's business.

So it's funny because they're REALLY HARD TO SEE, even if you're looking for them! They're SUPER handy but nearly invisible. Which isn't great for the usage rates.
Side note: we may want to collab sometime in 2024, if you're down for that :)

Thanks! Sorted by most viewed on RUclips... Although different video perform totally differently on different socials which is super interesting to see 🤷‍♂️

Drivers should have to pay to drive on roads, just like people have to pay to use public transit. The fact is people who use public transit pay twice to use road infrastructure, through their property tax and when they pay a fare or a city bike rental to use roads. Meanwhile drivers not only don't pay they get free parking, the auto industry in Ontario is heavily subsidized by federal and provincial governments, and cities have to go begging with hat in hand to get proper funding for transit.

When you were passing all the waiting cars, i was thinking of all the times a car moved over to block me from doing so. I wouldn't be rich if i had a dollar for every time, but i could buy a nice lunch.

@BenDurham you seem to post and wave that bloody tampon around on wifi but ever think of getting off your bike and confronting someone who isn't a female?

    • @016steamy
      @016steamy 2 месяца назад +2

@BenDurham well his window was open. Why didn't you ask him, or cause the same issue you cause on RUclips. Why do you gotta tell 95% of the safe drivers on here? Should have told that guy, the small percentage. These videos won't change anything. Complaining just seems girly.

being a cyclist in canada is to be a 2nd class citizen. drivers have all the rights to do the hell they want. no one cares
