I still say there's a potential to improve upon a bad movie by remaking it. It just takes the right people working on the product to do so. But I do concede your point that remaking a bad movie doesn't guarantee the new one will be better. There's no absolute result either way IMO. It really does come down to who makes the new version and if they have the talent to improve upon the inferior product that came before.

Immense gratitude goes out to you both Omni Viewer & Snazzy Chapeau for a thorough and well constructed double film analysis of Yongary : Monster From the Deep and Reptilian/Yonggary. Additionally, even more gratitude is extended to you for providing an excellent argument and supporting evidence in the form of the two aforementioned films, against the notion that a remake of a terrible film can only be better, because the original was already as bad as it could possibly be. Admittedly, I was one of the individuals that held that belief, but after your presentation, I clearly need to rethink my position on the matter. Thanks for showing me the error in my way of thinking on this idea.

    The funny thing about Reptilian
    The effects could've been worse
I don't know how true this is
But I heard that when the film originally debuted it had unfinished effects and it showed.
The version we got was actually the updated re release that came out later.
As far as I know that original version has been shoved far into the back vault
But it kinda astounds me to think that as bad as Reptilian looks it was likely leagues better then that first take
Not sure whether that scares me, impresses me or concerns me

I joked once that the CGI animation for the Titanic Creation's Yongary figure has better CGI than Reptilian. I still stick to that statement.

The original Yongary is unapolagetically one of my favorite non Godzilla kaiju media in existence. I have no idea what it is about that movie that makes me enjoy it so much, but it just tickles my fancy.
I'm excited to see what Titanic Creations does with Yongary

First Pulgasari has an international thriller involved with the production of the movie. Now the remake of Yonggary apparently has the director completely missing in action. What is it with Korean giant monster films and having some weird trivia? Haha

To me, the quality of a remake depends not on the quality of the original film, but the intent behind why the remake is being made. A film made with passion and a love of the franchise will have more care put into it over a film that's made as little more than a blatant cash-grab. And, no, budget doesn't really matter in this case. Regardless of whether a film cost five dollars or five-hundred billion dollars to make, a soulless cash-grab will always be a soulless cash-grab.

(3:11) Its funny you mention Gamera because back when I first discovered Yongary I thought the movie was made by the Daiei company. Mostly because of how the effects look and that Yongarys design looks like something they would have made for the Gamera series (especially with the way the eyes look and how they glow). 💡👁🐢🎥🎞
(12:10) I agree with you Omni, I have always liked the designs of both monsters in that movie. But obviously the cgi effects that were used doesn't help lol. 🦀🐊💥🔥🦖

Funny, I watched Reptilian last week on Tubi. And thought about for a couple days that Yongary deserves a reboot. And behold here's your critique. Great video as always.

What makes this sadder is that even if they didn't CG over the Suits, I don't think the movie would have been saved, even with suits, that Kaiju fight was pretty mid. At the same time I'm a little shitter shattered that we won't ever follow up on "Yongary's true strength" the Galaxians mentioned or that concept art of a Mecha Yongary head that was also behind the scenes.

I Personally Find Both Yongary/Yonggary Movies Endearing In Their Own Way, Then Again Yours Truly Enjoyed Any Of The GINO Rip-Offs (GARGANTUA, Kraa The Seamonster And Of Course; REPTILIAN) Way More Than Th‘ Motion Picture They Were Cashing In On.

The marketing campaign for Reptillian was basically a cross between the 1998 campaign and Godzilland, I am STILL looking for that Chinese LG Electronics commercial where Yonggary is frozen by a fan.

And what's funny about the CGI for Reptilian?
Apparently, this was actually improved CGI from an original take which was said to be so bad, the models devolved into wire frames. So, this? This was actually the "BETTER" version of the movie.
I mean, for as much crap as people give Dragon Wars (a movie from the same director as Reptilian), at least there the CGI was decent.

is the puppet you're talking to supposed to be off-screen or is he just invisible when you're talking to him? Very confusing way to convey that you're having a dialogue. You should probably ditch the puppet idea altogether.

Of course something isn't always going to work. I think it's more correct to say it might be MORE likely to be an improvement.
What I personally would like to see more remakes of would be the litany of projects that had a solid core but poor execution, middling projects that just seemed to be missing some special extra piece, or gems that just didn't get the exposure they deserved. THIS is where people should be turning their attention instead of trying to depend on 'built in auidences' that will probably just be disappointed anyway.
As an example of the first, take the old cartoon Spiral Zone. There's the core of a good idea here: the typical evil overlord (conveniently named Overlord) came dangerously close to conquering the Earth, and still holds a large part of it in his sway. The plot even includes an explanation for why the two sides aren't just killing people (Overlords Spiral Zones are powered by the number of people inside of them, meaning he needs as many of Earth's citizens alive as possible - and the good guys know most of his armies are innocent civilians). Of course it was a cartoon to advertise toys, and this held it back in some unfortunate ways (in particular, the show would have STRONGLY benefited from more linear progression instead of the status quo reseting). IMO it practically begs to be recreated as a streaming series.
A good example of the third is another cartoon from that era: the Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers. The show HAD more of a linear plot than nearly anything else on the air at the time, and while it wasn't perfect (in particular, this show is why I advocate for the use of Goose as the name for a male Mary Sue) there was a much higher degree of worldbuilding, consistent characterization, and genre blending than it gets credit for - primarily because if people know about the series at all these days, it's primarily because of its opening and closing themes.

If there’s any future plans to remake Yongary again maybe they can combine the 2 designs (the horn on the nose n the Stegosaurus dorsal plates from the old with the 3 crests on Vongary’s head along with the spikey shoulders from the new 1) in order to make him more unique

I remember seeing bits of Reptillian on the Sci Fi channel as a kid. It's a shame they didn't use the practical suits. They look so much better and honestly would have aged better than the CGI.
As for Yongary I saw it a few months ago and it was okay. Its quality was on the lower end of the Showa era Gamera films but overall, it was entertaining for what it was.
Surprised your putting commercials for your own books in the middle of your videos now.
