  • In today's game we play Eliminati. He goes hacker arclight, which is not a comp I am used to facing. This was a tough game! I hope you enjoy :)

Two things; the ball item was good for sure, but what helps you isn’t loose formation crawlers so much as it is shields. You waste around 350 resources before your first okay missile, and the shields carry you for multiple rounds each. Crazy comeback.

Yeah shields were definitely good! I was curious to see which was more effective after your comment so I just replayed the round without the shields and the loose still gets there and results in Eliminati taking 1450 damage. Additionally, I replayed the round without loose and only the three shields and I do concede that it's more of a difference resulting in Eliminati taking 1650 damage. So I think both are good, but shields were doing more than I gave credit. Good shout! Next time I'm just going fortress with barrier lol

Perhaps elite spec should just let you click elite recruiting for free each round instead of forcing it on you.

You kept throwing a missile on the left that would end up shooting at the first piece of chaff the hacker stole, was that intentional or an over site? Felt like a bit of a waste of supply to keep blowing up one or two of your stolen crawlers.

Just a preemptive missile in case he places chaff

What is the advantage of using vertical crawlers against storms? Horizontal ones seem to dodge an most of a stormcaller volley, but vertical will lose more than half of it's crawlers. I see high level players do it often still and I don't understand why. I'm no high level player though so I assume there is some good reason that I'm not seeing.

I think the difference is storm/arc clears a pack of vertical crawler with 1 less arclight shot than horizontal, but when I play sabers I typically will grab mustangs and sometimes horizontal crawlers are more likely to carry mustangs forward if they run into them. I place both horizontal and vertical crawlers, but toward the back and middle of my board I also like to keep them vertical to leave room for giants. I'm not sure how much of an impact it actually has on the game, but maybe it's a question to take to the testing grounds. I don't think that much about min max personally I go off feel mostly and react to what's happening and shore it up as I go

What makes the decision between mustangs and arclights? I admit arclights are better at chaff clear, but it feels like with subsidised mustang they'd be better for the long game, dealing with hacks and aren't terrible chaff clear with the discount. They also already had the range buff, so you don't need to sink another 300 into an upgrade.

@@jordanb722 so in general I would say mustangs are good if your opponent has fangs as their primary chaff and arclights are best at killing crawler and mustangs. Right now arclight is basically the best unit in the game and they scale super well so I think you should just have at least 5 of them every single game because not only will they kill crawlers and mustangs, but like everything else as well with levels and elite tech. In this specific game I have sub stangs, but I don't like to rely on mustangs to clear chaff besides just fangs so I went with more arclights because of his crawlers. Yes it requires I take another tech, but it covers all my bases so he can't surprise me with some chaff tech that just counters my one form of chaff clear. Having both allows me to keep moving forward without worrying about patching holes on my board. It's a really tough question to answer because the best answer to it relies on so many specific factors that you can't just simplify it to one or the other. I view them as quite different units with different use cases

@@Ragin08 I guess Mustangs in particular are vulnerable to fire, and obviously aren't great chaff clear at low lvl vs crawler - but they are a pretty definitive answer to chaff once they have a couple of levels it feels like. I suppose a solid counter I've seen get pulled out is armoured air units, but that's similar to spread crawlers no-selling arclights.
Can't disagree arclights are great, and not like they are expensive either.
Probably not really a wrong decision, just good to have a mix that isn't easily hard-countered in a single turn and losing huge (*cough* like you did in that huge swing round :)) - which I suppose is another good justification for arclight.

@@jordanb722 yeah literally loose crawlers forced him to get mustangs because he only had arcs haha. You are totally right that with lvl 3 or higher mustangs they are actually pretty okay at killing crawlers, but sometimes you still have to watch out for subterranean blitz. For me I tend to only use mustangs as my sole chaff clear if I am going fortress + mustang because I use rocket punch on fortress which actually ends up working pretty well at handling any extra chaff problems. Tbh arclight and mustang are both so strong right now though it just feels nice to have them regardless. I hope my replies help I just have a hard time thinking about anything in this game in such a rigid way where it would come down to either or. Like everything in Mechabellum, "it depends." As you progress the rules that you make for yourself that will carry you to like 1800 stop mattering as much because the games are less copy paste. At a certain point you have to be able to think about and play around a dozen different possibilities in one fell swoop

I tend not to play the armor wf because it feels effed up in a lot of ways, but maybe I should also be doing it every game like most of my opponents these days
