Played this from my Mac Addict CD back in the day. Great vid!

With some slight modifications we could make this a prequel game to Red Faction or something. “Mars got messed up so hard by this Microsoft guy from Earth now we gotta do guerilla warfare”

I'm so used to the earlier Ambrosia games with the all-out wacky sound effects that this game feels downright sober by comparison. I never got to play this one as a kid, never found it in the cover CD's from MacFormat back in the day. I probably would have loved this as a kid, for a while at least, though knowing myself a bit, I think I would have stuck with Tubular Worlds in the end due to it's banging music.
Recently I've been getting around to play the Ambrosia games I didn't get to play as a kid and it has been a blast. Mostly all the games after Bubble Trouble, except for EV Nova which I got to play in Windows XP. In particular Ferazel's Wand and Cythera have been amazing.

Ares was an cool game in the past, I think their might be a remake on newer macs. Outside of that Ev Override was my all time fav of all rhe 90s games of the past on a Mac.

The remake you heard of is probably the source port known as Antares. Plus, you’ll be happy to know that EV Override is getting a remake from the original creator(s) called Cosmic Frontier (they couldn’t use the Escape Velocity name due to trade name issues). Although the Kickstarter drive has concluded, anyone can contribute via the developer’s Patreon page.

This reminds me of Raptor: Call of the Shadows for DOS. Maybe in Raptor you are bombing Mac colonies on Earth??

My elementary school used to have iMac G3s and eMacs up until I was in fourth grade (2010-2011 ish) and they all had Deimos Rising on them and it was awesome!

That desert background reminds me of maps in Command & Conquer

Great game. I think it was included with my Power Mac 6500 in 1998. Brutally tough game though.

I love games like this. Played this one on my TiBook in the early 2000's. Deimos Rising too, but it was a bit too hard. You did pretty well. Don't think I ever got beyond level 3.

I had Deimos Rising but I don't think I had this one. Still, the graphics and sound take me right back to my first iMac.

Yea I tried programming on a mac, too bad I did not know what the proper tools were back then, chipmunk basic was all I new about. I played this game was unspired to want to learn more about programing because of these old mac games.

I remember this game. My brothers and I never made it too far into the shareware copy we had. The thing I remember most was that on or around Christmas the music would switch to Jingle Bells and the collectible stars became mistletoes.

Man I loved playing the demo for this game with my brother, it was a lot of fun just running through I think the first three levels trying to improve our scores each time. I do remember that glass breaking sound effect, it's seared into my brain. 😂

I do remember that with some black magic it was possible to get our Performa 6200CD to run intense 3D games like Shattered Steel, Quake, Future Cop LAPD and Myth 2 in unpleasant-but-still-playable frame-rates. I don't even remember how in the sweet heck did we manage to pull it off. IIRC the only one that was easy to get to run was Quake. The other 3 needed some arcane and extremely finicky system extensions shenanigans that stopped working if you so much as sneeze.

Mars Rising has one of my favorite game soundtracks ever. I only had the demo so I never even got as far as you. I did play a lot of Deimos Rising though because it came bundled with my eMac. I'm not a shmup head but I enjoyed both games a lot.

yeah this game is cool, I do have it somewhere, as well as the sequel, also similar game Active Lancer.
I think these were all based off the arcade game Raiden.

Recognized this one from the thumbnail! If I remember correctly you could put in custom music if you wanted. Lotta fun! There was something weirdly satisfying about the way enemies would ping apart into pixels.

Ambrosia SW was my favorite Mac games publisher. They put out some real classics, you could easily do a full video on just their catalog. EV Nova in particular. Their gameplay was tight and fun when other games were bloated or didn't seem too well designed, they still hold up decently today.

Nice graphics on that shooter. Have you ever played a gauntlet type game from late 80s that starts off in this dungeon fighting off snakes then mummies? The character seems to have a gun wearing shirt and pants. The title has the main character on screen and some ufo in the sky.
