    Hello, just stumbled upon your video whiLe searching my queries..... I hope you can clarify my problem...I recently got my step 2 ck scores it's 253...I'm happy but I am in great dilemma coz my score on step 1 that I took 4 months back is terrible it's 200.... back then I just didn't thought much I was disheartened so just to prove my worth I gave ck. but now I'm in real dilemma! what should I do? should I continue with cs and step 3 or not? hoping for your answer

    • @USMLE101

      +Ray shine Congratulations for the good CK score. Of course your step 1 score is going to limit you in the match and it will be difficult. However, it is still doable. You will be limited to something like family medicine. My advice is to continue with enhancing your CV. Pass the CS in the first time, get a good score in step 3 to prove that step 1 was just a mishap. You should do electives and research to enhance your CV and get good letter of recommendation. Of course my answer is based on the limited knowledge I do have, but there is hope my friend.

    Hello Ahmed, nice video !
    how about 197 step 1 score, first time taker, is that a hopeless score? or should I still continue with the rest of the steps ?
    and why exactly fresh, young graduates are preferred? could you clarify if you know the reason? thanks

    • @USMLE101
      @USMLE101  7 лет назад

      Hello Yahya, while nothing is impossible a 197 score will hurt your chances of matching for sure. If you continue with USMLE and do the steps I mentioned above you will be able to increase your chances, but it will still be a small chance. I would keep my options open if I were you. I don't know the exact reason for why they prefer fresh graduates, but it is a fact that fresh graduates have a better chance of matching than older graduates.

    • @yahyaibrahim2947
      @yahyaibrahim2947 7 лет назад +1

      so is it still worth it spending money and going through the pain of doing other steps? or I could use my summer holiday do something else? and how much step 2 ck score I must be looking at ?

    • @USMLE101
      @USMLE101  7 лет назад

      +Yahya Ibrahim I can't make this decision for you really. But if you were asking what I would do if I were you, then my answer is to Not waste my money and time any further. But this is based on the circumstances that I personally live in and my decision is totally based on that and not only on the score.
      Again in terms of a chance, there is always a chance and you could end up matching, but it is significantly lower than usual with a very low step 1 score. So, make your decision based on your circumstances. As for Step 2 CK you should aim for at least 240 to better you chances.

    Is there separate paperwork to certify USCE or is the LOR enough ?

    • @USMLE101
      @USMLE101  7 лет назад

      That's actually a really good question. I don't know a definite answer for this as I didn't apply for the match yet, but my guess (and based on what I heard) is that there is no separate paperwork needed to certify USCE. But again, I think someone who already went through the process of matching would help you more.

    hi,this video is excellent. i am an old graduate(almost 19 years). what are my prospects? I am a practicing anaesthesiologist. How should i be ready for matching?

    • @USMLE101
      @USMLE101  7 лет назад

      I believe the video explains a lot regarding this. What I can add, is that you should be ready to start things from scratch. You're going to be a resident which might be something different from what you are used to (being a consultant/specialist). It is also important to note that you will have to look at limited options in terms of the specialty you are going to apply for and where you can match in the U.S.
      My advice is still the same: get good scores, invest in clinical electives/USCE, research, recommendation letters, and so on.
      It would also be a good idea to look into U.S fellowship opportunities. This would be your best way to get a position in the U.S. Here's a good video that might help regarding this matter: ruclips.net/video/UbFYUNfoiqQ/видео.html I'm sorry that it is in Arabic, but maybe they have annotations/translations there in English.

    Hey, thanks for the information brother. I graduated in June 2017. step 1 score is 201 and step 2ck score is 217. Should I continue with cs and all the things you said? is it really worth it or should I give up and work in my own country?

    • @USMLE101
      @USMLE101  6 лет назад

      +g2la with an increasingly competitive Match you have a lower chance of matching with those scores. Your decision should depend on you and your situation. If you do have the financial resources and time to still follow through with USMLE, you can still try and enhance your CV. I would highly recommend that you make this as a plan B and Not put all your future plans on it. It is also advisable to have a position at your home country to fall back on in case you don't succeed in matching. Good luck.

      @@servandohernandezgalaviz5664 To each is own. I have a friend who is an IMG, he got 201 in STEP 1 the first time, he failed STEP 2 and retake and pass. He applied to FM, got 3 interviews and matched in 2019. People told him to give up but fortunately he ignored those negative people. Sir, i need your guidance. I have step 1 score of 221, step 2 231, cs first pass, 4 months of observership and 4 Lors. I applied for this match and did not get any IV. I am a IMG. What do u suggest i do for next year's match? A lot of people told me to do research but many people said that research wont add any more considerable benefit. Thankyou

    • @USMLE101
      @USMLE101  6 лет назад

      +kriti taneja Hello! I believe your scores are good enough to get you IV. Perhaps you should work on the other parts of your application. First I would try a speciality that would fit my score range (Family medicine is a good example). I would also try and apply to more programs than the previous year (150 programs could be a good target). In the mean time till next year you can finish Step 3 which will also add to your CV. If you find an opportunity in research take it as well, it will improve your chances and diversify your experience as well. Best of luck.

    How can I get USCE??? How do I ask for it? I studied in Dominican Republic and my internship does not count for clinical experience. Plus I graduated 8yrs ago :-( I feel so hopeless!

    • @USMLE101
      @USMLE101  7 лет назад

      That's a great question. Don't feel hopeless would be a good start on getting USCE. It's ok to feel frustrated and we are all in the same boat. Nothing comes easily in this life. While I do NOT have experience when it comes to getting USCE I can refer you to this website: electives.us/unilistims.html . It is a bit old and some of the information might not be accurate today, but it is a good place to start. Remember that it will be hard and you will get rejected a lot. However, if you persevere and continue to look for USCE you will eventually make it.

      USMLE 101 Sure but how do I ge USCE?

    • @USMLE101
      @USMLE101  7 лет назад +3

      Usually, you apply to the different hospitals that offer an observership/externship. The link that I put in the previous comment can help you find the places that offer that. You could also personally email/contact program directors/department heads and ask if you could come to their hospital as an observing physician or a visiting physician. The those two methods are the preferred ones.
      You could also consider some of the commercial programs that offer USCE like AMOpportunity. They set you up with a doctor and help you to get USCE. Here's their website: www.amopportunities.org/ ... But as a disclaimer, I'm in no way recommending their services nor am I responsible for any bad service they provide. I'm just letting you know your options and this is one of them.
