With so many interesting and varied shops where u could buy anything( at very affordable prices) Now a pretensious ,sanitised, globalised wasteland, with many down n outs and antisocials about.
I turned 20 in 1980. Everything used to close at midday Saturday and so Perth had a lovely relaxed slow paced feeling to it from Saturday arvo until Monday morning. Weekends were truly relaxing then. We were happier.
13 in 1980 myself, those were far simpler times. Service station rosters for the weekends where you actually got served at a petrol station, having to use a CBD map book to get around-no smartphones then. Smartphones and the internet is convenient these days young readers, however when you see a 2 year old just looking at Daddy’s phone and nothing else our future is not looking too great!
@@oldtimer2192 A Chinese friend of mine hosted some relatives from Hong Kong for a weeks holiday here. She drove them all around the south-west to see the beautiful countryside. They sat in the back looking at their phones the whole time and would not even look out the window let alone get out and walk around! They should have stayed in their poky apartment back in HK.
I remember the Mitchell freeway being built and I was the first person to drive on it with my go kart when I was 12 :) Before that there was all bush. near Karrinyup rd
I remember too.. my primary school,is right next to it. Used to play hide n seek in the bush until we got told off by our teachers.. lol.. thismis up greenwood area..,liwara catholic primary school
Me too I grew up in Lilacdale Rd.And Odin Rd went all the way through where the freeway goes. And all that land was swamp and market gardens. I remember when the section of Karrinyup Rd between Huntriss and Nth Bch Rd was a dirt track, then became Kilarney Rd for a short time.
When 'going into town' to see the Christmas lights was fun and you could hear the paper boys on the corner of Forrest Place calling out 'Daily news... paper!' And when there were enough shops open and in business in Hay St mall to actually go shopping in the city. It's all a bit of a wasteland now.

The clean and bright city of my youth.

A time when the AMP tower was the largest building in Perth. You can barely even see it now amongst the giant structures that surround it.
was thinking just that!
Light Bright and White.
Soo much nicer back then.
Mitchell Fwy with only 2 lanes 😳 its like 5 or 6 lanes there now
Everyone was so thin!! 😊😂
Keep saying it on these types of sites - wasn’t it nice without SUVs?
thumbs up 👍🏻 young dude , from the east coast 🔥🚬🐨 huge fan ☝️📈🔭🐥

Yeah I remember those days traffic jam was like 6 cars
a better, safer, cleaner, happier version of Perth....I was 10 then 🙂
When cars were predominately Australian, shorts were short and there were no ugly Camry taxis!
I wish we still had perth the way it was in that video, instead of what we've got now. YUCK.
Speak for yourself! Perth is a much nicer place in 2024.

Highly debatable!
food must have been expensive 44 yrs ago, hardly a fat person anywhere.
Many many moons ago, even a couple of building I worked on , AMP and Wellington St telephone exchange.
When peoe dressed nicer. Do u have a video of 60s and 70s perth?
anyone else try to spot their younger selves in these videos? 😆
Back when houses cost less than a carton of piss
Oh the yellow "Clipper"
Like yesterday
Notice no vagabonds laying around like now.
Everyone had a job and a house to buy or rent comfortably.

Now full of freaks, mad people, druggies and bums. Get shouted at often. Also notice how bright the clothes were, now depressing blacks and greys
@@DrakeN-ow1im Yeah, I know....
I want to move to 1980 and buy large house for 50K$ :)))
I would of been in grade 6, Maylands.
Oh look! Perth before it was ruined by relentless development
